Nigerians always believe home cooked food is cheaper than eating in a restaurant. But is it true? I understand it may be so for a large family, but for a single person is it really cheaper? If we stick to strictly cost and not variable factors like washing pant water or unhygienic environment. 39 Likes 3 Shares |

Most time I see that I spend more cooking at home, and I eat more too at home. But the best part of cooking at home is that you eat what you want and the way you want it, you are also sure that everything is clean (that's if you a clean person that is conscious of hygiene) 256 Likes 12 Shares |

Nope. It's no longer cheaper to cook. Cooking now cost way too much due to the current inflation that before you can buy enough condiments to make a tasty meal, you'll have to spend tons of money. We only pray God keeps providing more than enough for us to meet up because no matter what, I still prefer the food I cook myself. Most people out there are dirty and I don't trust the hygiene condition under which the foods are prepared. 119 Likes 5 Shares |

I will say it depends on the quantity and quality of the food. There is this place I buy afang soup, they sell a small takeaway plate @ about N4500. With delivery is approx N5500. Now would I not cook a good pot of afang soup of about 1l with N4500 and eat it many times? That is assuming I have the basic ingredients sha. For me, I also consider the energy and time involved- that is what makes it expensive to always cook at home. Sometimes I just order out to save myself stress abeg. Anyway, I noticed na poor people chop outside pass o. Whenever I am braiding my hair in those roadsides hairdressers, I will watch the woman buy N100 rice for her kids. We should also consider the fact that many Nigerians do not have bulk money to use and cook a single meal. Soup wey them no even get light/refrigerator to preserve. I think it is healthier, but not always cheaper. 90 Likes 6 Shares |

Pochettino:It's mostly cheaper to cook at home, but some kinds of food are better eaten outside due to the stress and arrangement of buying ingredients, cooking etc. Most especially when you're a busy type. I heard rumors and noticed the emboldened in a place I used to eat back then, the next time I went there to confirm properly and monitor the customer flow, I noticed their customers had reduced, as they were about to ask me what I would like to eat Me: 71 Likes 3 Shares

Well, I think it depends on what you want to cook and the quantity. For example, preparing fried rice at home with all the necessary ingredients will cost you more than eating it out. 18 Likes 2 Shares |

One bag of 25kg rice costs #12000 and it lasts me 6 months as a single person. I cook rice twice weekly. To cook tomato stew costs me #2000 #2000 gas refill lasts me 2 months. CALCULATE #12,000÷48 times = #250 per cooking which is about 5 plates. 1 plate = #50. #2500 ÷ 8 plates of stew = #312 a plate. NB Meat alone is #1500. #2000 ÷ 60days of usage = #33 per cooking. 1 plate should be about #6. So 50+312+6= #368 a plate for my own cooking. Average cost of a plate of rice outside = #500. So OP home cooking is still cheaper and more satisfying no matter what. Modified: My plate na big plate o. E fit be two plates outside. So be the judge. 81 Likes 8 Shares |

Eating out will always be more expensive than cooking at home lol If the cost of grocery increases for people that cook at home, is it not the same grocery that your bukka or restaurant are using to cook. If your bukka don't reduce the amount of stew they pour ontop your rice, the quality of the stew go reduce. If they don't increase the price of your turkey/meat they sell for you, the size go reduce. Either way, you go still feel am #212 28 Likes 2 Shares

Hmm

I cooked soup three days ago with 1,500 naira and decided to go buy fufu to eat with and what I got shook me. Maybe it's now better to eat out because I don't believe a restaurant can be that heartless to sell that quantity of food to you. Attacked pic is the fufu I bought for 50 naira in Abuja 16 Likes 2 Shares

It's cheaper for single individuals who don't eat heavily. For people who eat lightly once or twice daily, buying out might be cheaper... but only in comparison to local bukaterias. If they want to eat from places like Mega Chicken, The Place or Radisson Blu, then of course cooking is way more affordable. 11 Likes |

Always, let's assume you use #5k for a meal eating out. And you use 8k preparing a meal at home. Note that the 5k meal will be a one off & in some cases moderate satisfaction. While you may eat multiple times for the home made. 13 Likes 1 Share |

If you have nothing to do and your time is not valuable, it is cheaper to cook at home. But when you become someone of value and people pay you good money for using your time to provide services, you won't waste your time washing fish because you want to save 3 or 5k. Afterall, what is 5k to you when they are paying you 1000 dollars to transcribe speeches from Chinese to English. 33 Likes 2 Shares |
