Mm hmm. You wouldn’t understand all your own dancing around from page one of the thread.
That was predictable.

Are you familiar with Duane Gish? Because you evilly used his most famous debating fallacies on me in your penultimate comment. And your present response to my deflection of your attempt was a classic give away.

By the way, this was never about polygamy at all. Believe me, I would absolutely confess to your catching me out if it were. I remember I also mentioned unwed mothers. That doesn't mean that I intended a campaign against them as well. I genuinely believe that women exaggerate their cravings for the sake of attention. And in my experience, the way other women get outraged when a pregnant woman's cravings are not immediately satisfied is a telling sign of the great unjustified significance they attribute to it. Otherwise, why open a thread on it at all?

Now goodnight. I have to get up later tonight to do some work (time zone palaver), so I'm going to catch some zzzzs.

@bold is the argument you’re both making against yourselves. No one told you that all women or even most women do this. You chose to say that in response to the thread because you want to misrepresent pregnancy as no big deal. Create a poll on this thread alone and see how many ladies who had pregnancy cravings actually inconvenienced anyone else in other to satisfy them. I bet you the number would be less than those who didn’t.

Then in the rest of your post you also said your other aunt handled her cravings well.
So argue for and against your own point.

Good job. Keep going cool

BTW. As a pregnant woman, I wouldn’t hide my cravings. If I can cook it, I will. If I can’t, I’ll go get it myself or order it via any of the multiple food services available or ask my SO to stop by where it’s sold and buy it for me. The options are plenty.
It’s not a complicated life.
What you highlighted were points I have to propose the fact women exaggerate their cravings and I am not contradicting myself with them.

@bold, na their way grin.

Diary section is just for reading. People bare their minds and you just read but can’t comment. It’s like their personal open diaries so no one else is allowed write in it.

Klass99:
I feel you, my cravings for junk food when it's that time of the month is crazy and uncontrollable.

If I don't eat white flour/baked goods in the form of meat pie, sausage roll or cake along with a sugary drink or ice cream, I do not function well.

It's like coming up for air when your head has been pushed/held down, under water for 5 minutes or more. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like for pregnant women!

Yet people whose anatomy is not designed for conception/birth want to mock and minimize the challenges of pregnant women.]

By the way, what does it take to comment on a thread in the diary section? When I try it says insufficient permissions.

Dear Coco, there are certain monikers, discussions, back & forth arguments you shouldn't bother getting involved with.

Because it will be a waste of precious time, a brain drain cos of the profoundly opinionated, unintelligent, toxic and zero value comments/posts such monikers put out.

I jump and pass a lot of that these days and don't bother arguing with internet strangers wey get ITK plus oversabi for body and are unable to engage without animosity or an antagonistic attitude.

I enjoyed reading your comments though, the maturity with which you flawlessly put jackasses in their place without insults or vile speech, is a badass move I need to learn. Respect!!!
So toxic it stinks. I pity the unfortunate souls who get married to their kind.

There is no physiological, anatomical or biochemical explanation for the pregnancy cravings that women supposedly get. Personally, I believe in science. I love science. As long as there is no satisfactory scientific explanation; and there currently is not; I'm taking any such stories with a big pinch of salt; in fact, a big bag of salt.
Fact:
Many women experience cravings due to nutritional deficiencies and there is a physiological and biochemical explanation for them. Your body will naturally tell you what you need.
You see women having certain cravings, eating potash or other weird things during pregnancy because they lack iron and other nutrients. Pregnancy brings a lot of other changes with your hormones, changes in the blood, even anatomical changes.
It's really not about making your life miserable tbh.
It can actually be explained by science.
While pregnancy itself is a normal physiological process, it can quickly go south and become pathological, so stop trying to trivialise it.
Perhaps, it's this mentality that has ensured maternal mortality has remained high in Africa.
I don't support being stupid with your cravings, when pregnant. Going out in the middle of the night in an unsafe country like Nigeria is a stupid idea. You can still get your iron/soya the next morning without immediate harm coming to you.

All this is opinion, not fact. I cited a WebMD article in one of my comments stating that the aetiology was uncertain. I don't want to go over all that again. There is no scientific study that shows pica as the problem behind food cravings in pregnancy. In fact, the article even went so far as to postulate that it is likely to all be in the women's heads...hormonal, so to speak; and not caused by any deficiency per se. You can refer back to my comment which contains the link to the article and read it.

So you think that maternal mortality is caused in part by not satisfying a pregnant woman's cravings? I do not believe this to be true. It certainly is not listed as one of the causes of maternal mortality; cited as haemorrhage, sepsis, hypertensive disorders, obstructed labour; and in regions where abortion is illegal and teenage sex rampant; unsafe abortions. Nutritional deficiency due to the non satisfaction of pregnancy cravings is not a cause of maternal maternity.

Yes. That is my point exactly and has always been my point. That the cravings are only some sweet tooth feelings during pregnancy, and that this is usually only exaggerated or even faked by pregnant women to get their husbands' attention. If they have a sweet tooth, they are perfectly capable of waiting until they can get whatever tickles their palate without the need for disturbing their poor overworked husbands. This was admitted even by cococandy, who also promised that when her time came, she would not disturb her long-suffering husband, but would wait until she could satisfy the craving herself; although she did refuse to admit that some other women have and do behave stupidly when they allegedly get the so-called cravings.

So you see, on the admission of practically everyone including myself pregnancy craving is just a feminine urge to eat something special. There is no cause for imposing on one's hardworking and enduring husband, nor is there any reason to open a thread on it or waste energy on it. So women should let us rest from this overhauled phenomenon called pregnancy craving. We all crave things at different times. I wouldn't mind a plate of goat head pepper soup right now, I've been craving it since last night. I certainly didn't kick my wife out in the night to go and buy the ingredients for me.
Re: 8 Nigerian Women On Their Funniest Pregnancy Moments by cococandy(f): 9:19am On Feb 03, 2021
I remember the thread. If it was moved to diary section, then I’m not sure how people were able to comment on it after the move. I did the read the comments they posted while it was still on this section.

Klass99:
Lol, as in ehn! E reach to pity them, in fact after I read some comments I genuinely felt sorry for women who self sabotage and kill themselves over marriage and kids.

But people were able to comment on Adulteress' thread. Did you ever see that thread? It started in this section but was moved to the diary section or was it sexuality? I can't remember, but after it was moved away from here people could comment on her thread. That thread was intriguing and entertaining cheesy I wanted to ask a question but couldn't.

Anyways on a different note, this thread was meant to be a fun, comedy relief type of thread. When I first saw it the narratives of the pregnant women made me smile, the one about indomie and fork in particular. It's sad how some people turn everything into a smear campaign against woman and make it a gender war.

Re: 8 Nigerian Women On Their Funniest Pregnancy Moments by angelfallz(m):
Lol, that's the way to go. Once your wife knows you're not the type of man to fall for it, she won't do it.

RisenPhoenix1:
My wife learnt not to play such tricks on me early in life. In her first pregnancy, when we were about 3 or 4 months married, she was trying to force me to buy her suya late at night (the reason why I always use that late night suya analogy). My mother was even supporting her, can you imagine? I just chuckled at both of them, very helpfully fetched my wife's car keys and tossed them on the table for them to go and buy whatever they wanted. They took one look at the dark empty streets outside and the suya craving miraculously disappeared (praise the Lord). I was never asked again, either during that pregnancy or any other thereafter.

Me that did all the work putting in the baby, I didn't wahala anybody to buy me suya.

It's been an interesting read so far, but I hope you were not expecting any female (here for that matter) to admit that they do exaggerate their pregnancy cravings especially when/if they know that someone around is going to give two shiíts.
Hell will freeze over before that happens nau cheesy

The simple point which you've stated already was clear enough. Just remove the husband, dear friend, close colleague, or anyone else they feel they could very easily convince to do what they want, from the equation, and you'll see that there's not much to these cravings afterall.

It's mental (pun intended).

Coco, exactly my point, why should i hide my cravings when i know i can afford and get them and itz healthy and my husband is not complaining . I dont eat mashed beans(ewa agayin) ,there was a day my husband and i had to drive around early in the morning and bought from 3 different places because i was looking for a particular kind of taste in the beans and stew. Till now,i skip meals atimes because i cant get what i crave at that moment and i just settle for fruits. Till now i still crave banga soup that i ve only eaten twice in my life but hubby keeps promising me that he would order online when he gets a good recommendation.

These set of men just hate the women folks generally especially the kind of women with the easy life. I so much fear for the kind of wives that would end up with them. Look at the way he described pregnancy bloating with food bloating, something that made me cry in the first 2months cos i could not sleep or lay on my back or side for that long.
I am just lucky with my kind of husband, i swear.

Cravings in pregnancy is usually your body's way of telling you what you need in terms of nutrition, especially when you have some iron and micronutrients deficiency. Your body's way of telling you that you are lacking in some nutrients.
Majority of cravings in pregnancy are not even special things btw. Some women crave ice, some the smell of dirt, some potash and strange things which usually points at iron deficiency or vitamin deficiency.
This is where pica becomes significant in pregnancy. It has generally been linked with nutritional / iron deficiencies and anemia.
Pregnant women are easily very deficient of iron because of the parasitic relationship the fetus has with them.
Hemorrhage in an already anemic pregnant woman (africans generally have a lower haemoglobin too btw) can simply be disastrous. Surprised much that hemorrhage is still a major cause of maternal deaths in Nigeria? Other than the healthcare system being rubbish, Your women hardly have any reserves in the first place!
Hence why pregnant women should have regular checks of their haemoglobin in pregnancy, and any anemia in pregnancy no matter how mild is taken seriously by obstetricians.
Should we talk of other micronutrients like zinc, folic acid and B12 deficiencies too and it's attendant effects on the fetus?
The earlier you realise cravings especially in a pregnant woman is generally the body's way of telling you something, the better.
Learn to listen to your bodies, especially when pregnant . The cravings in pregnancy are usually persistent for a little while compared to your one off goat meat pepper soup.
Again, we both agree on being sensible about your cravings.
Meanwhile, here's an interesting article/cohort study on nutrition, pregnancy outcome and marital status (single women with no partner to harass in getting their cravings have a poorer outcome

I'm tired of this half baked stuff thrown at me.

I've made my point. Since you all seem to agree that it's controllable and not instantly fatal, control it and stop disturbing your husbands or satisfy your cravings by yourselves. Write articles to teach your sisters this simple suggestion instead.
