When you are over 30 years, you start to lose points in the Express Entry system every year and the maximum points for work experience is 3 years, even if you have 10 years experience, you still get the same points as someone with 3 years experience. This is why it is more difficult for a 45 year old to scale the process.

And except they were IT workers or they were working for a multinational company, they wouldn't have started on the same level when they got to Canada, this is because Canadian employers place a huge priority on Canadian work experience.

If you worked for any multinational such as Big 4(Deloitte,PWC,EY,KPMG), major oil multinationals(Shell,Chevron,Exxon,AGIP), Major Consultancy comapnies (Accenture,Mckinsey) the transition into their Canadian subsidiaries for most immigrants will not be much of a hurdle.

Enough with all this Canada back and forth, the problem is 90% of those attacking the OP will never get to live in the Canada and definitely will never get to live in the US. You can scream and yell about japa all you want, but most of you will never live in or even visit those two countries but you can try Dubai or SA.
Wicked man grin grin. That's the bitter truth. A significant percentage of Nigerians actually lack the resources to relocate, and not everyone will relocate eventually.

Op, everyone will tell you different reason for migrating but i suggest that we try not to generalize. I decided to move then not because I want to be on the Forbes rich list but because I want a very good quality of life. Note that I had a job and pay was quite good but I was a government on my own as I had to provide everything so the quite good pay at the end of the day was not that good. I needed a better quality of life badly, I needed time more than money, I needed rest badly that I migrated.

Now, I wake up at about 7am, leave my home at 7:45AM to catch the 8:15 train to resume work at 9am. I leave work at 17:30 and I am back home latest 18:30. My children attend some of the best schools in England and I don't pay a penny on school fees. I spend quality time with my family everyday. I have dinner at 7pm. I don't have generator(s), no business with "UP NEPA". I don't pay security levy, I have time to think about things and ways that I can improve. My prayer points are more precise because my taxes provides those things that I use to pray for.

These things might seem very minor, but they are big deal to me. I don't want to be on Forbes list and not be able to take a walk or cycle with my children in the park. I just want a very good quality of life.
You're one of the few reasonable persons here. People do not relocate exclusively for finances or to be billionaires, but for a better life. However, kindly consider consider paying some of your children's school fees, however insignificant, so they don't end up in massive school debts after graduation.

If I may ask, why do you think it will be a mistake for someone earning more than 450k to relocate?

Have you thought about the possibility that high paying job comes with high risk of job loss? Are you saying such person should wait until they lose the high paying job before contemplating relocation ( why which time it may be too late to gather the needed resources)?

Does earning above that income threshold immune you from insecurity in the country? With 500k monthly, can any wise person do to rent apartment in a gated estate in Lekki?

Can his 3kids attend a decent school paying 200k per term?

Again, I ask, why do you think someone earning about half a million or more ( with the attendant lack of jo. security due to the unstable social/security, political and economic situation in Nigeria) should stay put in Nigeria?
So people do not lose their jobs abroad?

Princewill1:
The high successes recorded by dubious politicians, fraudulent pastors and ponzi scheme operators in Nigeria are living proofs that Nigerians can be so gullible. We can easily be deceived. The astronomical hype on Canada is the latest deceit in town. Here are things you need to know before immigrating.

1. The list of richest Nigerians is filled with Nigerians living at home. You're more likely to make it into Forbes if you live in Nigeria. At least that's what the stat shows, whether people making into Forbes in Nigeria are engaging in corrupt practices is a story for another day. The odds of becoming a dollar billionaire favours those at home . No Diaspora Nigerian has ever made it into Forbes billionaire list.

2. There are more money to be made in a developing economy than in a developed economy. That's why as you're rushing out of the country, Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are rushing in. Only few will understand. You're sitting on the biggest market in Africa yet you haven't realize this but the Lebanese and the Indians knew this.

3. If you are the type who don't fancy working for others, it's much more easier to own a business in Nigeria than in Canada/US. Western countries were set up for the 99% populace to work for 1% elites. Their education systems were designed to produce workforce for the rat race. Not to create employers of labour.

4. It's stupidity to resign from a high-paying job in Nigeria in a bid to relocate to Canada/US. Your eyes will get clear up when you start facing the hard realities in Canada. Those who had made this mistake in the past are ashamed to come on social media to talk about it. The ones talking on Twitter are 'freshers' who just arrived.

5. If you want to secure 2nd passport for your kids, you don't necessarily need to immigrate to achieve this. There are other ways, one method is overseas child birth.

6. You're 5x more likely to be shot and rubbed in New York than in Lagos. Poor neighborhoods all over the world has more crime rates. The thing is, when you finally made it in Nigeria, you can move to high brow areas with lesser crime.

7. Nigerians are spending up to 8millions ($21k) and above to immigrate to Canada/US whereas an average canadian or American citizen can't boast of $10k in their bank A/C's. They live pay check to pay check.

8. Some Nigerians claims that they ain't relocating because of the money but because of good infrastructure, good health care system, value for their money etc. That's a lie! 98% of Nigerians who're eager to travel out are relocating because of economic reasons. There are good infrastructure, good health care system and value for money in countries like Kuwait, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Chile etc but Nigerians ain't trooping there, indicating that their preference for Canada/US is purely based on economic reasons.

9. It's cheaper to live in Nigeria. Canada/US promises higher minimum wage but the system will still take it away from you. It's like giving you with one hand and taking from you with another. $2k (N760k) will pay for your one year rent of 2 bedrooms apartment in a good location in Nigeria but same amount will only fetch you one month rent of a match box apartment in Canada/US.

10. This is not to stop you from traveling out but to inform you on the true realities. Economic immigration should be left for lower or working class who're struggling or to young lads who wants to school abroad and thereafter further their career overseas. Not to deceive Nigerians already earning good in corporate offices in Nigeria to resign and relocate where they will be employed as security guards or to deceive business owners who's businesses are thriving in Nigeria to close down business and relocate. Don't let them deceive you with the hype. Money don't grow on trees anywhere in the world.

You might be a billionnaire in Nigeria but what happens if you are sick?? All your money cant save you never mind the silly mistakes done by doctors/ nurses in nigeria e.g. frequent misdiagnosis. Nigerians are obsessed with being billionnaires. In Canada you may not be a millionnaire but you wont beg either and you get all the things that make life worth living without being a "billionnaire".

You mention New York - new york is only dangerous because it has been taken over by blacks, hispanics etc.

For your info my last employment salary was in 6 digits every month!

The friend I referred to was a C-level officer in a multinational company just like myself cos we started our careers at about the same time.

He resigned from his job in Nigeria and relocated with his family to Canada. It was when he got there that he got a rude shock; he thought he would get a job as a head of department over there but was disappointed when he was rejected for roles he was qualified for simply because he does not have Canadian educational qualifications.

In the end he was forced to take a job at almost entry level to start doing boy boy for white people...this is someone who was a boss in his company in Nigeria.

If dem like make dem give me multiple visa to Canada I no dey relocate go anywhere...I prefer to live in Nigeria and visit Europe and America when I feel like!

Whether you believe me or not is your headache

The highest salary you have ever received is probably like 50K a month that's why it's so hard for you to believe that people with special skills can be paid that much here in Nigeria...Poverty don do you strong thing for dis life! grin grin

For your information the General Manager (Technical Division) of an Energy company which is a joint venture between Shell, Total, Agip(ENI) and the NNPC earns a monthly salary of over $100,000...please feel free to quote me anywhere!

I understand that hunger has warped your brain but don't make the mistake of believing that everyone in Nigeria is poverty stricken like you and is therefore desperate to relocate to Canada to do boy-boy for white people!

Note: I made a mistake earlier, my monthly salary wasn't in 6 digits it was actually in 7 digits! smiley

The highest salary you have ever received is probably like 50K a month that's why...

Now you have upgraded it to 7 digits after I urged you to upgrade the previous number :-) ... that's better... a round of applause for you. Why did you even place me at N50k per month, of course you could have done better and fixed me at N15k per month. You sound like the typical Nigerian for whom every debate/discussion needs to boil down to "I have more money" or the magic word "poverty".

it's so hard for you to believe that people with special skills can be paid that much here in Nigeria...

That one above is a typical straw man argument, of course I believe that people with special skills can be paid much... the evidence is everywhere (and I am a data scientist), I just don't believe that you have friends that are regretting relocating to Canada, since any intelligent person knows the drill that it takes a while for a new immigrant to find his/her footing and the Canadian government has a well-structured welfare system to support new immigrants.

I understand that hunger has warped your brain but don't make the mistake of believing that everyone in Nigeria is poverty stricken like you and is therefore desperate to relocate to Canada to do boy-boy for white people!

That one above display your level of reasoning... seriously, anybody that can sit down and learn MS Excel, Tableau or any other software/IT skill (to an intermediate level) wouldn't go hungry in Nigeria (just offer your services on Fiverr and Freelancer). And news flash: a lot of Nigerians trying to immigrate to Canada via Express Entry either have CAD$12,000 or have the means to get that amount... they aren't hungry or poverty stricken, they simply want a better environment (run by a much better system of government).

And yes Canada isn't paradise... nobody says it is, but by every measurable standard, it is a much better country to live, work and raise a family.

You are really NOT smart at all, and I am guessing your reply will be along the lines of "I am making 9 digits" or one of those foolish boastful statements that unintelligent and insecure guys usually make.
