Shutting Crypto Accounts Can't Stop Igboho’s Funding - Lawyer by MASTAkiLLAh(op): 12:21am On Feb 06, 2021
Activist lawyer, Tommy Ojoge-Daniel, says the recent warning issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria to Deposit Money Banks, Non-Financial Institutions and other financial institutions against doing business in crypto and other digital assets cannot stop the fundraiser set up for Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho.

Ojoge-Daniel said this during a chat with The PUNCH on Friday shortly after the CBN issued its directive.

Supporters of Igboho had set up a Gofundme page for the purpose of raising £100,000 (N51.8m) for him to buy buses to implement his project of ridding the South-West of killer herdsmen.

The fundraiser, which was initiated by Maureen Badejo, a blogger and activist based in the United Kingdom, had garnered £25, 589 (N13.2m) as of Friday evening.

The PUNCH learnt that crypto currency was one of the major ways through which funds sourced through crowd funding are accessed.

Speaking with our correspondent, however, the lawyer said, “It (CBN policy) does not affect it (Igboho’s funding) in any way in as much as crypto currency is an open source platform for peer to peer (P2P) exchange of value and it is largely untraceable.

“The open ledger (block chain) only tracks activities in wallets and cannot hinder or hamper individuals who have crypto in their wallets from sending it to the recipient wallet. They can only track the payments but can never track the payers. The only issue will be exchanging the crypto on a direct platform to a Nigerian account.”

Meaning the Fulanis know Yoruba is on set trajectory and fear is rocking their root.

Crypto or not, we will match and pass them in funds, while their kids are living in the bush and elites stealing public funds, we have been sending our best brains in millions to get trained overseas

Aha! Now we know why CBN suddenly came up with the new policy against crypto in Nigeria
This hidden agenda of Bubu against the rest of us will not stand.

Let this be on record that Emefiele is the slave and tool being used by the Fulani to mute the southern voice.

Little wonder Buhari has to extend his stay as the CBN Governor to do the dirty job against his brothers.

Emefiele would think Buhari loves him so much, unlike other Igbo tribe, the very reason Buhari had to extend his stay as the CBN Governor. Not knowing that Buhari has decided to retain him to set him against his brother.

Ride on.

Crypto currency is a death nail on import dominated countries. there is no balance of trade or how that can be regulated. Do you think the loans gotten from china is not a means of balancing trade due to our large imports?..

how do you balance the escape of forex through cryptos for an import dominated country especially for non physical services/goods?

- It undermines monetary policies of various Government..
- There are no checks and balances.
- Any dick and harry can prop up a coin.
- it discourages foreign investors from investing physically in developing nations.

Best initiative from CBN on saving the naira.

So this was about Igboho?
Re: Shutting Crypto Accounts Can't Stop Igboho’s Funding - Lawyer by luvmijeje(f): 5:03am On Feb 06, 2021
Nigeria Government love chasing shadows.

The issue is the belief by the herdsmen that they are above the laws and that the President will do all he can to shield these law breakers at the expense of other Nigerians.

What's going in the South West is still manageable. But if the federal failed to back the Southwest Governors and give them the tools to succeed, we are all playing with fire.
Re: Shutting Crypto Accounts Can't Stop Igboho’s Funding - Lawyer by Nobody:
Later the white will resell hard policies created around crypto to Nigerian government through imf or World Bank and they will quickly embrace it blindly. Useless people and losers. They think people won't find away to further escape it. Our Nigerian banks are nothing but glorified kolo or piggybank now. No real banking innovations or clear cut strategies than to deduct charges illegally and send alerts.
I see many machants launching virtual banks soon that will be like a gateway for transactions between ur local banks and wallets. Or even integrate services like payooner to exchange crypto. PayPal USA has started accepting and trading in bitcoin and 3 other cryptos on their platform since December last year at no charges. Soon others will follow similar trend and also allow transactional deals accross other platforms and countries I believe.

You can't stop mass innovations, you can only defer it locally. Cbn will soon be left out of the trend and will further cause wahala for the naira.

Some fraudulent naija youths are a huge disappointment sha, very mumu fraudsters.
But thank God that, the good, honest and hardworking youths are more than the dumb ones.
Do they even know how so dumb they sound with the stupid theory? Na because of one Sunday CBN governor shut down crypto?

Difrent:
My brother something's you read on nairaland makes you wonder what kind of education are these kids getting these days......a purely monetary policy decision has now been turned to FG vs igboho, southerners vs northerners...
.who did this to nigerians youths
Those opposition who feels they are gaining from the ignorant rants of our youths will end up being victims of this same ignorant youths one day
You have said it all sir.
We have learnt to ignore some foolishness we read online.
Those corrupt and evil politicians have succeeded in turning these youths life upside down, that anything they think about is hatred for the country and ffighting, cursing other tribes all over the country.
They still have a long way to do this anyways.

I really don't want to believe the ban was placed because of Igboho, it could be one out of many. That said, nothing surprises me again especially when it has to do with this government.
