Grammarians in the house, please which one is more correct between these two sentences

1.Everybody knows his or her name
2.Everybody knows their name.


I've searched the internet for a seemingly convincing answer but the results are contradictory.

"Everybody" is followed by singular verb.
Ie. Everybody knows his or her name.

It should be "Every body" knows his or her name.

This first is more correct.

The second is ambiguous.
It could be taken as " Everyone knows their ( other people's names ) names.
Whereas, you meant " Everyone knows his / her name."
