Everybody knows their name is the correct usage in modern English. The "their" is called singular "their". We also have singular " they" when used to refer to 'everybody,' 'somebody,' etc.

However, you are not wrong if you use "his or her," but grammarians are trying to remove the gender wahala.

I read this in some grammar books.

The first sentence is correct..

The second sentence sound strange.
The second sentence should probably be "Everybody knows their names".

Grammarians in the house, please which one is more correct between these two sentences

1.Everybody knows his or her name
2.Everybody knows their name.

I've searched the internet for a seemingly convincing answer but the results are contradictory.
.
Everybody knows his or her name is the correct sentence.

Everyone knows their names is correct... Not everybody knows his or her names.
Besides, his/her are mainly used by Nigerians compare to their foreign counterparts...
