Please How Do I Know She Is Pregnant? by Casemiro(op): 7:44pm On Feb 12, 2021
Hi all.
I have some questions disturbing me about women sexuality.
1. When is a lady likely to get pregnant?
2. please I don't really understand about their monthly visitor and related stuff. How does it work, please explain like to a primary school kid.
3. how exactly is pregnancy calculated? let's say we had sex today, and she gets pregnant, will she deliver her baby exactly 9 months from today or there are some additional days or reduction in days? like when will the 9 months start counting?
4. When is the best time for her to get pregnant? Before or after her monthly visitor?
I could go on and on.
Please pardon me, teach me like a primary school child
Re: Please How Do I Know She Is Pregnant? by PoliteActivist:
1) You're most fertile at the time of ovulation (when an egg is released from your ovaries), which usually occurs 12 to 14 days before your next period starts. This is the time of the month when you're most likely to get pregnant. It's unlikely that you'll get pregnant just after your period, although it can happen.

** Getting pregnant is all about timing. You want to make sure the conditions are right for egg and sperm to meet. Your menstrual cycle can give you clues about when your body is ready to start the process.

The first step is to learn the days when you're most fertile. Most women have a 28-day menstrual cycle. That means you have about 6 days each month when you can get pregnant. That includes the day that one of your ovaries releases an egg, called ovulation, and the 5 days before. Having sex within that window is key. You can’t get pregnant without ovulation, and tracking your monthly periods is one way to get familiar with your body’s fertility.

To figure it out, you'll need to chart your menstrual cycle and record how long it lasts. Day 1 is the first day of your period. Since the length of your cycle can vary slightly from month to month, it's best to keep track for a few months.

Once you have an average, subtract 18 days from the length of your shortest cycle. This is the first day you're likely to be fertile. Next, subtract 11 days from the length of your longest cycle. This is the last day you're likely to be fertile. Having sex between those two dates will give you the best shot at getting pregnant.

Check Your Basal Body Temperature (BBT)
It's also a good idea to pay attention to the signs that your body is ready to ovulate. Checking your basal body temperature (BBT) is one way to do this.

The BBT is your temperature first thing in the morning. Just after you ovulate, it rises slightly -- sometimes by less than a degree -- and stays higher until your period starts. If you record your temperature every day, you can spot the subtle changes that mean one of your ovaries has released an egg.

To take your BBT, you need to:
a) Use a basal body thermometer. It's more sensitive than a standard one and will show temperature changes down to a fraction of a degree. You can get them at many pharmacies for less than N10,000

b) Take your temperature at the same time each morning. Always do it before you get out of bed. (To make it easier, keep the thermometer on your nightstand.) Even getting up to go to the bathroom can affect your body temperature. So can smoking, drinking, or getting a bad night's sleep.

Remember, your BBT won't tell you exactly when you've ovulated, and it may take a couple of months before you start to see a pattern. You're most likely to get pregnant 2 or 3 days before your ovary releases an egg, and then another 12 to 24 hours after that. When your temperature has spiked for 3 days, your chances of conceiving drop.

**Check Your Cervical Mucus
The same hormones that control your menstrual cycle also affect the mucus that your cervix makes. Just before and during ovulation, the amount, color, and texture of it change to make it easier for you to get pregnant.

As your ovaries prepare to release an egg, your cervix makes more mucus. A few days before ovulation, it may be sticky and cloudy or whitish. Then, right before you ovulate, the mucus gets slippery, like egg whites. It may stretch across your fingers if you spread them apart. This stage usually lasts 3 or 4 days, which is when you're most likely to get pregnant.

To check your cervical mucus:

Use your fingers or a tissue to check the opening of your vagina for mucus a few times a day. Make sure your hands are clean before you start. Write down whether it's cloudy and sticky or clear and slippery.
Chart your cervical mucus changes and your basal body temperature to get a clear picture of where you are in your cycle.
Keep in mind that other things, like breastfeeding, can change your mucus. Using douches or other hygiene products can also affect it. Gynecologists usually don't recommend these products.

2) Pregnancy lasts for about 280 days or 40 weeks. A preterm or premature baby is delivered before 37 weeks of your pregnancy. Extremely preterm infants are born 23 through 28 weeks. Moderately preterm infants are born between 29 and 33 weeks.

3) When did she get pregnant?

Many women, upon finding out that they are pregnant, try to figure out the exact day the pregnancy began. This happens for several reasons: curiosity, due date estimation, or paternity issues.

No matter what the reason, finding out the exact day that pregnancy began can be tricky. Here's how to find out around what day you conceived by:

The best way to calculate the day you likely conceived is to figure out approximately when you ovulated. According to Dr. Jennifer Landa, a board-certified OB/GYN, "If you have a "perfect" 28 day cycle, then ovulation happens on day 14 and you can get pregnant for about 12-24 hours after ovulation. Of course, many women don't have a 28-day cycle. Anything from 21 days to 35 days is considered normal. So to figure out when you got pregnant if you have a different cycle, ovulation comes 10 to 14 days before your period." If you had sex during this fertile window, then it is possible that you conceived during those days.

How Do I Figure Out When I Ovulate?
Ovulation is the time when you can conceive, so it is important to figure out what days you ovulate. Ovulation usually occurs in the middle of a woman's monthly cycle. For most, it occurs 10-14 days before your next period. You will need to subtract 10-14 by the length of your cycle.

Example of Figuring Out When You Got Pregnant
Let's say you had a period starting on February 1st, and you have a 28-day cycle.

Mark the first day of your period (February 1) on the calendar.
Then mark the last day of your cycle. If your period starts on February 1, and you have a 28-day cycle, then you would mark February 28th as your last day.
Count back 10-14 days from February 28, which would be around February 14th-18th. Highlight these days. These are your most fertile days, so the days you most likely conceived would be around the 14th of February to about the 18th.

How to Figure Out the Conception Date
Let's say you ovulate on day 10 of your cycle. The egg comes out of the ovaries and waits for 24 hours in your fallopian tube. There's two possibilities of what could occur:

Sperm from intercourse 3-5 days ago can meet the egg in the fallopian tube and fertilize the egg.
Sperm from intercourse that day or the day after can meet the egg in the fallopian tube and fertilize the egg.
If you have intercourse during day 7 of your cycle and you ovulate on day 10, it's possible that conception can begin on day 10 or 11, depending on how quickly the sperm finds the egg. If you have intercourse on day 10 or your cycle, the same day you ovulate, conception can begin that day or the 11th day.

Example
Let's say you have a period on June 28th. On a 28-day cycle, your next period would be on July 26. 10 to 14 days before July 26 would be around July 12th to July 16th, which is when you'd be most fertile and more likely to conceive.

Note: These examples are based on a 28-day cycle. If you have a longer or shorter cycle, you should calculate your ovulation by subtracting 10-14 from the number of days in your cycle or by using this ovulation chart. On average, many women ovulate around these days. Those with irregular periods or who do not ovulate all of the time may not be able to rely on this method.

When Does Conception Occur?
The exact moment of conception is debatable, but it begins when a sperm burrows into the egg within 24 hours after ovulation. Some say conception is right at the moment when sperm meets egg; others say it is when the combination of sperm and egg implant into the uterus.

Symptoms During Ovulation
There are, of course, other ways to figure out ovulation, including signs of bodily change that occur during this time.

Changes in cervical fluid: Your cervical mucus will be clear and stretchy, like egg white.
Change in basal body temperature: After you ovulate, you will see a rise in temperature. You need to track your BBT over several months in order to predict when ovulation occurs.
Change in texture and position of cervix: During ovulation, the cervix is open and becomes softer and is positioned higher up.
Mild cramping: Some women report feeling a twinge on one side of their lower abdomen. This is known as mittleschmertz, and it should only last a few hours, if at all.
Light spotting: This is rare, but some women may experience light spotting when they wipe. Bleeding should not be heavy, red, or last more than a few hours.
Mild bloating: A rise in oestrogen levels prior to ovulation will trigger the release of LH (luteinizing hormone). This surge in hormones causes water retention, which leads to feelings of bloat.
How Many Days Before and After Ovulation Can You Get Pregnant?
The sperm survives in the female reproductive tract for six days, and the egg is viable for 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. This means you can get pregnant from having sex six days before ovulation and one day after. However, for best results, Dr. Sinem Karipcin, an OB/GYN and infertility specialist, says, "The best days to conceive are the three days prior to ovulation and the actual day of ovulation."

How Long Do Sperm Live?
Sperm can live for up to five days inside of a woman's body after intercourse. In some rare cases, and with perfect conditions, some sperm may even live up to seven days after intercourse!

Strong, healthy sperm can reach a woman's fallopian tubes in as little as 30 minutes, while it may take others several days. If an egg is there within the 30 minutes, conception can occur right then. If the egg is not there yet, the sperm can live a few days in the fallopian tubes and fertilize the egg once it is released.

Can You Get Pregnant Right Before Your Period?
This is a very rare occurrence, but it can happen if a woman has a very short luteal phase (the 12 to 16 day period between ovulation and the onset of a menstrual period). In cases when a woman gets pregnant a few days before her period, ovulation occurred shortly before the start of a woman's period, meaning the luteal phase was only a few days long. Short luteal phases often result in pregnancy complications and miscarriages, so be sure to speak with a doctor. Progesterone supplementation can save future pregnancies.

Are Conception Dates Accurate?
Unless you have taken some sort of hormone test to determine the possibility of ovulation, there's no real way of knowing when you would exactly conceive. This is why women with regular cycles use the estimation of ovulation happening within the 10th-14th days of their cycle. The methods above are accurate within one to five days, but the exact date is impossible to pinpoint. This is why doctors use the date of your last menstrual period to date a pregnancy. They do this for consistency, and if you really want to know when you conceived, then you can assume it was about two weeks after your last period.

Tracking Your Menstrual Cycle
An average menstrual cycle usually lasts anywhere from 26-35 days in length. During this time, a few things occur:

Days 1-7: You will have a period. This is when the uterine lining is shed if there is no pregnancy.
Days 10-14: This is your fertile period, or ovulation, when an egg is released from the ovaries. This will likely be the time when you conceive.
Days 15-35: If you get pregnant, this is when implantation occurs. This stage is also known as the luteal phase.
This is an average cycle for many women. For those with irregular cycles, calculating your ovulation period can be tricky, and there is no real way of predicting when ovulation occurs without some type of hormone testing, which can be done with an over-the-counter ovulation predictor kit or blood test.

How Did I Get Pregnant?

When Does Implantation Occur After Ovulation?
Once sperm and egg have met and the egg is fertilized, the egg becomes a tiny ball of cells and travels down into the uterus. If it is a viable pregnancy, meaning that the ball of cells is growing normally, it will try to implant or burrow into the lining of the uterus where it can grow into a baby.

This process of implantation can happen about 7-10 days after ovulation, more or less. If you ovulate on day 10 of your cycle, implantation could occur anywhere from days 17-20 of your cycle. Basically, it happens about a week before your next expected period.

Most women do not realize that implantation has occurred, but some women do experience some symptoms:
Implantation bleeding or spotting that is brownish, pinkish, or reddish and is lighter than that of period bleeding. It should also only last a few days. If implantation bleeding lasts for longer than three days, then you may have a health-related issue, such as an ectopic pregnancy.
Slight cramping that is intermittent and lasts for less than three days. Some women may confuse implantation cramping for PMS cramping.
Once implantation has occurred, the embryo continues to grow and develop. This triggers a hormonal response from the body, which tells the body not to shed the uterine lining in the period. The hormone responsible for this is human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG. It is the same hormone that is used by home pregnancy tests to indicate a pregnancy.

How Do I Calculate My Due Date?

On average, a baby arrives 240 days (40 weeks) after the first day of your last menstrual period. This is the gestational age, and it is what most doctors and health care professionals use to calculate the due date. It includes the two weeks prior to conception when a woman is not pregnant. Of course, this is based on a 28-day cycle, and days will need to be adjusted for longer or shorter cycles. But, even with adjustments, less than 10 percent of women actually deliver on their calculated due dates, so giving birth two weeks before or after the estimated due date is normal.

1. A lady is more likely to get pregnant when fertile sperm meets her ovaries with her during her ovulation period. It could be during swimming or during normal sexual intercourse where the partner is not using a barrier (condom) is and she's not on any contraceptive pill.

2. Menstruation occurs after release of ovaries which are not fertilized, and the body or womb is or uterus sheds its lining which results in bleeding . It usually occurs between 15-28 days and it causes her to release some flow of blood usually between 3-5 days and It differs in individuals. Some experience mood changes and they feel tender, irritated easily and all what not but still, it varies based on individuals.

3. Pregnancy is calculated from the day of fertilization of overies till the day she deliver, s usually in weeks. It's also calculated in stages of trimesters, most pregnancy are 4 trimesters or anywhere between 38-42 weeks which is approx 9 months, give and take. Note, some children are born before 9 months and they're normal.

4. The best time to get pregnant is to know and calculate her ovulation period. It is said within some quarters that on her first day of ovulation, and the eggs get fertile, na boy she go get. grin

Thanks for your robust contribution in trying to explain this to me.

However, I'm more confused because your explanation is too complex for my understanding.

I'm a novice to issues like this and would like this issue explained to me like a primary school child.

Any day and anytime. It has no dedicated date or time as long as her last flow was between 14-25days prior.

You obviously do not understand grin
The vast majority of women see their period every 26 to 30 days, which can fall on any day of the month

Actually it's quite simple:
most women begin their period about every 28 days (for a few it can be every 25, 26,27,29,30,31,32 days). This is called her menstrual cycle.
10 to 14 days before the begining of her next period a woman releases an egg (this is called ovulation). The egg lives for 12 to 24 hours and dies. Because sperm can live up to 5 days in a woman, the egg can be fertilized by sperm from sex the woman had 5 days before. So those 5 days plus day of ovulation are the days the woman can get pregnant in a month.
The length of pregnancy (called gestation) is usually 40 weeks (9½ months).
So simple.

(But remember we are dealing with nature and in nature there are always odd exceptions - sperm may miraculously survive 15 days in a woman's body!)

What happens during the typical 28-day menstrual cycle

Day 1
starts with the first day of your period. The blood and tissue lining the uterus (womb) break down and leave the body. This is your period. For many women, bleeding lasts from 4 to 8 days. Hormone levels are low. Low levels of the hormone estrogen can make you feel depressed or irritable.

Days 1 through 5
During Days 1 through 5 of your cycle, fluid-filled pockets called follicles develop on the ovaries. Each follicle contains an egg.

Between Days 5 and 7
Just one follicle continues growing while the others stop growing and are absorbed back into the ovary. Levels of the hormone estrogen from the ovaries continue rising. By Day 8 the follicle puts out increasing levels of estrogen and grows larger. Usually by Day 8, period bleeding has stopped. Higher estrogen levels from the follicle make the lining of the uterus grow and thicken. The uterine lining is rich in blood and nutrients and will help nourish the embryo if a pregnancy happens. Estrogen helps boost endorphins, which are the “feel good” brain chemicals that are also released during physical activity. You may have more energy and feel relaxed or calm.

DAY 14
A few days before Day 14, your estrogen levels peak and cause a sharp rise in the level of luteinizing hormone (LH). LH causes the mature follicle to burst and release an egg from the ovary, called ovulation, on Day 14. A woman is most likely to get pregnant if she has sex on the day of ovulation or during the three days before ovulation (since the sperm are already in place and ready to fertilize the egg once it is released). A man’s sperm can live for three to five days in a woman’s reproductive organs, and a woman’s egg lives for 12 to 24 hours. In the few days before ovulation, your estrogen levels are at their highest. You may feel best around this time, emotionally and physically.

Days 15 through 24
Over the next week (Days 15 to 24), the fallopian tubes help the newly released egg travel away from the ovary toward the uterus. The ruptured follicle on the ovary makes more of the hormone progesterone, which also helps the uterine lining thicken even more. If a sperm joins with the egg in the fallopian tube (this is called fertilization), the fertilized egg will continue down the fallopian tube and attach to the lining of the uterus (womb). Pregnancy begins once a fertilized egg attaches to the womb.

Day 24 through 28
If the egg is not fertilized, it breaks apart. Around Day 24, your estrogen and progesterone levels drop if you are not pregnant. This rapid change in levels of estrogen and progesterone can cause your moods to change. Some women are more sensitive to these changing hormone levels than others. Some women feel irritable, anxious, or depressed during the premenstrual week but others do not.

In the final step of the menstrual cycle, the unfertilized egg leaves the body along with the uterine lining, beginning on Day 1 of your next period and menstrual cycle.

What happens during ovulation
Ovulation is a monthly occurrence for women of childbearing age. It usually takes place around day 14 of a 28-day menstrual cycle. During this process, an egg is released from one of your ovaries and travels from your fallopian tube to your uterus.

The release of an egg isn’t a spontaneous occurrence. Rather, different factors take place prior to ovulation. Follicles in one of your ovaries start to mature between days 6 and 14 of your menstrual cycle.

Around days 10 and 14, an egg develops from one of these follicles. This egg is then released from the ovary on day 14.

Some women don’t give much thought to their menstrual cycle or track ovulation. But ovulation plays a big role in conception. So if you’re planning a family, it helps to know how long ovulation lasts.

What happens during ovulation each month?
Each month during ovulation, one egg is usually released. But some women may release more than one egg within 24 hours of each other. After ovulation, the mature egg is ready to be fertilized by sperm, which results in conception and a pregnancy.

If you don’t fully understand ovulation and its role in becoming pregnant, you may believe you can get pregnant any time during the month. But the reality is you’re only fertile a few days out of any given month, around the time of ovulation.

Twins - identical and fraternal

To form identical twins, one fertilised egg (ovum) splits and develops two babies with exactly the same genetic information. This differs from fraternal twins, where two eggs (ova) are fertilised by two sperm and produce two genetically unique children, who are no more alike than individual siblings born at different times. Twins are more or less equally likely to be female or male. Contrary to popular belief, the incidence of twins doesn’t skip generations.

Gestation for twins
The normal length of gestation for a single baby is around 40 weeks. However, gestation for twins, either identical or fraternal, is usually around 38 weeks. This shorter time is due to the increased demands on the mother’s body, and the inability of the babies to receive all the nutrients they need in utero.

Since twins are usually premature, they are more likely to have lower birth weights. Prematurity is associated with increased risk of a number of disorders, including jaundice.

Factors that increase the odds of having twins
Some women are more likely than others to give birth to twins. The factors that increase the odds include:
**Advancing age of the mother – women in their 30s and 40s have higher levels of the sex hormone oestrogen than younger women, which means that their ovaries are stimulated to produce more than one egg at a time.
**Number of previous pregnancies – the greater the number of pregnancies a woman has already had, the higher her odds of conceiving twins.
**Heredity – a woman is more likely to conceive fraternal twins if she is a fraternal twin, has already had fraternal twins, or has siblings who are fraternal twins.
**Race – Black African women have the highest incidence of twins, while Asian women have the lowest.
**Assisted reproductive techniques – many procedures rely on stimulating the ovaries with fertility drugs to produce eggs and, often, several eggs are released per ovulation.

Things to remember
**Twins account for over 90 per cent of multiple births.
**To form identical or monozygotic twins, one fertilised egg (ovum) splits and develops into two babies with exactly the same genetic information.
**To form fraternal or dizygotic twins, two eggs (ova) are fertilised by two sperm and produce two genetically unique children.

While men can carry the gene and pass it on to their daughters, a family history of twins doesn't make them any more likely to have twins themselves. But, if a father passes on the "twin gene" to his daughter, then she may have a higher chance than normal of having fraternal twins.
