I'm from Ebonyi and I'm of d same opinion.
Ebonyi doesn't need an airport now based on scale of preferences.
Enugu airport is just 45mins away,same time it takes som1 from Karu in Abuja to get to Abuja airport.
Secondly, Ebonyi doesn't have the economic activities or population that can make an airport viable.
Same with the nearest towns in other states.
Either they are typical villages or have other airports like Owerri, Calabar and Enugu closer

Each time I read any of the developmental stride in ebonyi the question readily came to mind is what is going on in enugu where the former was cut out to become a state... I travel to cross river few days back and expectedly pass state like Anambra, Enugu and Ebony..
To confirm my curiosity, Enugu remains horrible in terms of development...
What I saw in ebonyi should be an eye opener to indigine of enugu that all is not well with the state...
Hardly, one can point to meaningful development except abandon projects everywhere...

What have come to realize is that Abia government is having bad PR and perhaps this is why news always made it look like Abia is the worst among South Eastern states..
Enugu can't be place side by side with any other states in the SW base on what have seen from those states..

The Ikom people that I know are farmers and timber operators. So how do you expect them to transport their agricultural products through your airport when they can barely afford that and prefer the usual affordable means of land transportation?

FG is broke cannot carry everything . FAAN makes profit from only three airports (Lagos , abuja and port harcourt). The surplus from these airports is what is used to fund other airports under FAAN. This is one of the reasons civil servants in FAAN are fighting the minister Sirika because he wants to concession the terminal buildings in these three airports along with Kano. Once that happens they will no longer get free money from lagos, abuja and port harcourt airports and they have not been able to make any of these airports viable. Nigeria suffers from its greedy citizens who pressure their governors into embarking in some unsustainable projects.

Within the south east every state wants to have its airport as opposed to adopting that of enugu as the gateway airport to the southeast. Cargo for its Agricultural and mining sector .lots of agribusiness and mining going on.from lead to granite and zinc,in real commercial amounts . I know an Anambra friend that transports large quantities of lead from Ebonyi to his factory in ogun state using trailers. You need to get close to know what is happening. Most granite used in rivers ,Abia, Enugu and cross river are from Ebonyi. There is no atom of exaggeration here ,u can check it out with numerous Agricultural produce
