That’s not a very good example because first of all subsidy has never been fully removed in any government. Secondly in most cases where we increased petrol price to reduce subsidy, increase use of petrol and higher cost of petrol through devalued naira meant the subsidy always came back even bigger.

What's ur point
So what they realized since the first phase of subsidy was removed till date isn't enough to achieve anything right?
Remember they didn't say untill they fully remove subsidy before the can utilize the proceeds on the earlier said infrastructure undecided

PapalsBull:
Lokoja - Benin, Lokoja - Abuja, Benin - Asaba, Onitsha - Owerri. These are my routes.

Mostly Igbos ply those routes as well.

This is an economic genocide against the Igbos once put into context & in proper perspective. Although, this economic genocide is subtle and as not kinetic as the economic blockades during the civil war, but over a period of...say 5 years, if statistics permit, the outcome will be doubly worst than the blockades in terms of wealth destruction/ transfer.

Economic militarized policy against the Igbos; once broken down to its elementary understanding. (1). Loan/Debt. Although, Nigeria haven't reached it's GDP to loan ratio, but due to covid-19, repayment of those loans are in serious doubt as Chinese creditors and other multilateral creditors are pulling back on Africa. Those loans went into building modern railway tracks, from Lagos to Ibadan, Lagos to Kano, Abuja to Kaduna, some Northern lines all the way to Niger(as proposed). (2). The tolls. Shagamu to Ogun, Igbos are taxed #1, Ore to Benin, tax #2, Benin to Asaba tax#3. Onitsha to Owerri for those who started their journey from Lagos, tax#4. Enugu to PH tax#5. Tolls on roads like Kano to Katsina are just highlights in other for them to implement the main agenda subtley since Islam don't tax the Muslim umas. Igbos are going to pay the loans on those modern railways since the passengers on those rails are not effected. Once you loose the forests, the roads, critical sectors like energy ( Dangote will control the whole Continent), cements, ports, military etc, you've lost your environment/space( don't forget the revenues on kidnapping from killer hearders). We are doomed.

No government, however irresponsible would allow anything that looks like the politically motivated #endsars nonsense to take place again.

Have you for once wondered why the nonsense was allowed to take place in the southern part of the country but not in the northern part?

Any person or group of persons who want a regime change should do so through ballot and not through anarchy hoping that something like Arab Spring would take place in Nigeria.

That's what they know, causing hardships for the masses, demolition of properties, taxes, increasing not decreasing burdens. All major roads have been included.

Set of wicked animals are ruling us in this country, imagine people are crying everyday and died every day as a result of bad roads but our leaders pay no attention to it, all Nigeria roads both federal, state and local roads are death trap because of lack of construct and maintenance but they can come up with policy of build toll gate to all these damages and abandoned roads
Is that policy make any sense at all my fellow Nigerians?

How old are you? Reason I ask is if you are old enough you will know toll gates existed from the 70ies till the early 2000s. Despite the existence of tolls, the roads remained in deplorable conditions as no maintainance was done.
Note that the government then (Obasanjo) increased price of petrol and incorporated a road maintainance tax into each liter of fuel hence the removal of toll gates.
On each liter of fuel you buy, road maintainance has been added hence dismantling of tolls.
If tolls are to be reinstated, does it not make sense therefore for a reduction in price of petrol?

This is a very poor implementation by the Nigerian government.

A very inconsiderate idea and a total poverty inflater.

How can a sane group of so called "old wise men" come up with this total hogwash of an idea?

What exactly are the citizens benefitting from all this "business" ?

I mean, every day you cross that toll gate, you must drop cash. You pay tax,NEPA bills, even for your goods to get to it's final destination, you pay a huge amount of money.

When it finally gets here, for the masses to purchase becomes an issue cause the price of everything is no longer at their level.

Even light is not constant but,the citizens still pay huge amounts for it.

It's high time this government is either reshuffled or made to step down.
This is the highest level of incompetency ever recorded.

Who controls this toll gates and what's the main aim of establishing one when the citizens are trying so hard to even live up to the standard of a common man.

I spit on this government.
I spit on the inconsiderate cabals.
I spit on Buhari.
And Laurette Onochie get's my catarrh.

You all will go down in shame.

Wahala dey ooo.... The Govt has run out of ideas to generate revenue. See them scrambling for anything that seems profitable even though it will affect the poor masses and at the same time, filling their pockets.
They are still scratching their heads for a way to fund the 2021 budget which they will in turn loot with reckless abandon. How did i end up in this country angry
Nah who get life get hope. May God epp Nigerians this 2021 and beyound.

There's nothing wrong with tolling. Chinese built the beautiful miles of highways of modern roads using tolling.

In a country with massive tax evasion and very low tax collection, there's little option but to toll. Road construction is capital intensive and there's no money on ground.

An alternative is to tax fuel to raise revenue but Nigerians would never accept it as they do not want to even pay a market determined price for oil and instead even want subsidized petrol at all times.

There are many sides to this my brother, I have come to discover that whom the president speaks to first and last really matters, and the guy with a sit in the presidential circle even if it's moving paper, is more influencial than the number one critique.

I think the youths, that is myself and a host of others get into this strategic position in the political circle, else nothing may really change bkos these guys will not give power willingly, Tinubu is planning a come back, so also Okorocha, Atiku and the likes.

It only begs to say that except the youths prove to be useful to this guy's which will inturn benefit the country or come up with a strategy to dominate the political space and send these guys to rest politically, na corruption fit continue.

Firstly, i don't think you should be making comparison using China because China doesnt condone curruption like we do here, and their economy works differently from what we have here.
I agree nothing is wrong with tolling. Infact, it is a welcome idea. But, everything is wrong with how the govt goes about it. Someone mentioned up there that majority of the toll gates are in the south. Just about one or two in the north. Everything is one-sided in the country. So the south will be taxed for the north to enjoy?
I am not trying to make it a faceoff between the north and the south but that is the reality of things.

During the times the tolled highways were being built, corruption was very high in China. It was the present president that fought corruption hard when came to power a few years ago. Frenetic highway construction started in 1990s in China.

Since its a private-public venture, it will most likely be private funded. There'll won't be much room for corruption as the private company will use its own funds to manage the roads. They are also the ones to cost the repairs. What the government is providing most often is the license and nothing else.

I don't care of the North South divide.
