naptu2:It would be better if the NRC act is amended so that state govts and private investors can build lines, which would then be managed by the NRC. I think it would save the FG a lot of money in the long run |

Fulani terrorist groups are trying their last luck to take our oil and gas and other resources from Biafraland in the name of project, through signatures of their appointed slaves from the East.

samdunzo:Here's the problem. State governments can build lines, but only metro lines in their states. Many states have been talking about building metro lines for almost 20 years, but only Cross River has been able to complete a small metro and that's because of the problem of money. |

Federal government should build a rail line connecting lagos-benin republic, the two nations can foot the bill and nigeria will make far more money from such venture......the best solution in short will be for the government to privatize the railway industry opening it up for private individuals. |

naptu2:This is a fundamental issue then..... many states are economically unviable. In the short term, states in the same region could theoretically combine funds. Long term however, we will have to revisit the structure of the federation |

Fixey:So what stopped Jonathan from building the rail lines then..Allison Madukwe was minister of petroleum yet nothing was achieved.. crude oil was also very expensive. the country had a lot. so whats ur point..even if PDP comes back they will still do nothing for you in the east as it was then. Party doesn't work, it's people in position of leadership that does the work.. |

naptu2:Good morning as per your number 3 I think you are missing the point I don't think you have seen a freight train b4 so you got me c confused, the tracks has nothing to do with it rather its the carriages they both moves on the same track same platform nothing differed,I asked again have you seen a proper c container trailer in Nigeria most of the time? Freight trains cant carry people with no seats. This was why Im saying. freight trains are c container trains so where do you want container loading facilities to be located if not at the ports. Freight trains are flatbeds with nudges at the 4 edges to hold containers or they c some in wagons like tippers. |

erico2k2:You are the one that still hasn't understood. I said that the rail lines are being connected to the ports in order to move goods from the ports into the hinterland. You said that the rail lines are being built to carry passengers, not freight. I told you that they are going to carry both passengers and freight. You said that the trains that you've seen are passenger trains. Are the trains that you've seen going to be the only trains that will use those tracks?? And what the hell do you mean by I've never seen freight trains before? Does that make sense to you?? Is this not a freight train in Nigeria?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wZ4J84kbts Most of the lines have not been commissioned. They are being test run with passenger trains! I gave you an article in which the minister talked about the passenger coaches and freight wagons that will built in Nigeria and imported to run on the lines! Are you still insisting that only passenger trains will run on the lines or what the hell is the point of your argument?? https://m.guardian.ng/news/gains-of-nigerias-new-railway-wagon-assembly-plant-by-amaechi/ erico2k2: |

naptu2:There was a reason I asked you if you have seen a freight train B4, now that we are on the same page, where do you expect these trains to offload? on a passenger platform or at a port?(Bonded terminal) PH port has loader and offloads cranes, Onne Port has load and offload cranes and so will be the new Bonny port. So my Argument is simple All ports should be linked by rail be it Seaport or Airport. This is the same in Europe and America. My Point still stands and you can take it to the bank, there will be more cargo coming from Lagos via the west lines ie Lagos to PH than PH to Maiduguri |

erico2k2:Onne Port has load and offload cranes as does Bonny Port and therefore goods will be shipped direct to Bonny or Onne and loaded on the trains for onward movement to Aba, Enugu, Makurdi, Maiduguri and other places. Why would I ship to Lagos and then move the goods by train to Bonny, Onne, etc when I can ship directly to those destinations?? It seems you don't understand why the Bonny Port is being built and connected to the rail line. The government wants to decongest the Lagos ports so that goods will be shipped to other ports in the south-south. So why ship to Lagos when you can ship directly to a port in Rivers State. Do you now understand?? Read this https://www.nairaland.com/6057000/onne-seaport-welcomes-biggest-ship https://www.nairaland.com/6405963/amaechi-new-rail-seaport-development I'll be back with more articles for you to read. |

naptu2:But common economic calculations show that freight rail lines should have been built first on the Lagos-Benin-Onitsha route that accounts for more goods haulage than any other route in Nigeria. The profits generated from the Lagos-Benin-Onitsha freight rail lines go to sponsor new freight and passenger rail lines in other parts of the country. That’s how it’s done in other countries. So why is the Lagos-Benin-Onitsha rail lines not in the cards of the Transport Ministry? This reminds one of how NITEL died after Digital Telephone exchanges were first built in some tiny towns of northern Nigeria, while the large and businesses cities in the East were left to struggle with Analog telephone exchanges. |
| Re: FG To Flag Off Eastern Rail Project On March 9th by naptu2(op): 11:51am On Mar 01, 2021*. Modified: 12:23pm On Mar 01, 2021 |
onuman:1) The government decided to complete the projects that had already started before it came into office before starting new projects. The administration of Goodluck Jonathan had already started the Western Line, while the Babangida Administration had started and gone far with the Central Line. 2) The Western and Eastern lines are going to run beside the old narrow gauge lines and that means that the right of way has already been cleared. It is easier and cheaper to build them than to start clearing the right of way for the Lagos-Calabar line. 3) A lot of the goods that are now being transported through Lagos to the East will be transported through Onne and Bonny ports. That's one of the policies of this government to decongest the Lagos ports and reduce costs and time for shippers. This means that a lot of those goods will be moved via the Eastern rail line which goes through Port Harcourt, Aba, Owerri and Enugu. https://www.nairaland.com/5659192/npa-begins-moving-commercial-vessels https://www.nairaland.com/5650307/eastern-ports-revival-how-npa The first two places in Nigeria to get digital telephone exchanges were Victoria Island and Lagos Island. I know because I knew someone that worked at Nitel then (1990/1991). They went from 61 and 62 to 261 and 262 respectively. |

I've just figured out that it seems the problem on this thread is the name Maiduguri. Ok, if the name Maiduguri makes you unhappy, call it the Port-Harcourt - Enugu line or the Port Harcourt - Owerri Line or the Port Harcourt - Makurdi line. Ha! |
| Re: FG To Flag Off Eastern Rail Project On March 9th by naptu2(op): 12:07pm On Mar 01, 2021 |
The trains will not just take off from Port Harcourt and appear at Maiduguri. They are going to service the entire eastern corridor of Nigeria. This includes places like Owerri, Aba, Enugu, Otukpo, Igumale, Makurdi, Kafanchan, Kuru, Jos, Bukuru, Bauchi and Gombe. Goods from the ports in Rivers State will be able to move directly to these places by rail, thereby saving money and time! |

naptu2:owerri isn't on the part of the existing ph to maiduguri line..so an branch off is going to owerri? Where would the branch off take off from along the original route? Since that lagos to calabar route has a branch of from benin to terminates at onitsha and now the branch off from ph maiduguri route has a branch off that stops at owerri i honestly think it makes sense to join onitsha to owerri and later join to aba |

asha80: “The Port Harcourt to Maiduguri railway will have new branch lines; from Port Harcourt to Bonny and from Port Harcourt to Owerri. There is another connecting to Kafanchan. There is a branch line from Gombe or before Maiduguri to Damaturu and Gashua. That’s what has been approved,’’ the Minister added. |
