Exactly! Modular refineries must be allowed to operate. It's just that aboookis won't support anything that will not favour them in the short run. |

[ Shut your trap.... quote author=Godarz post=99505553]So in other words, instead of deregulating and allowing more legitimate investors who would build standard refineries to provide enough PMS, we want to legalize backyard refineries, which are not up to standard and provide a lot of pollution simply because we want cheap fuel. Even then, we still must deregulate. It is the only way we can eventually get low oil prices.[/quote] |

unite4real:Then again, PMS has not been deregulated ..meaning that we don't have enough investment in new refineries like Dangote's...except for three other investors.....thus low production...thus AGO price remains high Who wants to invest in a new refinery and be running it at a loss because the price of PMS isa not high enough to break even? |

Godarz:Total deregulation will lead to protest, which shouldn't forget that the pdice of electricity and cost of living has totally increased while salaries haven't increase with the cost. Total deregulation is calling for trouble. If you think these people will reinvest money into refineries, all the subsidies they were receiving basically free money, why didnt they reinvest it in building refineries? |

thebosstrevor1:Whereas paying subsides and not deregulating means we continue to take loans to cover for shortfalls. Unless you want to be like Canada which subsidses fuel...and pays for it by charging a high tax rate...and even then fuel costs N401 per liter. If you think these people will reinvest money into refineries, all the subsidies they were receiving basically free money, why didnt they reinvest it in building refineries?Because at the end of the day, subsides means that they won't be able to sell the fuel they reifne there at a profit. If you are forced to sell fuel at a price below its cost of production , while government pays you a subsidy that don't cover your losses...it makes no sense to invest in building refinereis. Dangote is building a refienry, only because banks and other lending agencies felt comfortable enough to lend to him ...if his refienry fails due to there being no deregulation...they can recoup their money by taking over his industry |

I support this. We have left them out for two long. Their activities have been labelled illegal but that has not stopped them from thriving. At least we should experiment in including them. With proper planning, inclusion, and implementation, it can work for the good of Nigerians. |

dre11:The chap doesn't know what he is saying. Nigerian government officials are known for making flippant, unrealistic, illogical statements. In the current clime, I struggle with how unsubsidized petrol can be less than N100. Or maybe he's thinking that since 'backyard' are stealing the crude, the cost of input is zero. |
