So, we should subsidise fuel to the tune of 1.2 TRILLION naira or more annually, and take loans to cover up the deficit resulting ?

Removing subsidy is the best way. We should have done this since 1993, even 2012.

Okay, let's keep on throwing millions down the subsidy hole...we can always take loans to replace the money...

Good evening.

Even his wife warned that "there is God oo"..this thing you people are doing. (Who ever you people is)

But then many were laughing with there brown teeth.

Now doomsday is upon us.

When you don't appreciate good leaders God will give you bad ones. It's called laws of binary opposites. Can't appreciate day if you have not withness nights.

Some Nigerians are so heartless. Someone is comparing fuel price in Nigeria to other countries. Which kind of stupid comparison is that?
Let's do the maths.

Minimum wage in Nigeria 30000 per months
Full time working hours per week is 40 hrs. In 1 month, it is 160 hours. So minimum wage in Nigeria is 30000/160 = 187 naira per hour. Then fuel price is 200 naira per liter.

Let's see Canada for example.
Minimum wage in Ontario is $14 Canadian dollars per hour. Fuel price is $1 per liter.

Even though, a Canadian will buy fuel at 350 naira per liter if you do the conversion, from the scenario above which is more affordable to the 2 groups of people?

The idiots are quick to say fuel is cheaper in Nigeria because this or that country pay 500 naira per liter, but they will not tell you the minimum wage of those countries and the fuel price in those countries currencies to have an idea of how affordable it is to the citizens of those countries
Which kind of blatant deceit is this?

We might have a low tax base, but has the level of social and capital development even been commensurate with what Nigeria has realized from tax earnings so far?

FYI, Most of the informal sector you talk about earn less than 50,000 a month. When we are globally rated as the poverty capital of the world with over 90million people earning less than 1USD a day, do you expect these 90million people to pay taxes when they can barely survive. Are they not almost up to 50% of the entire population which is a close metric to the untaxed informal sector you talk about?

You cannot simply rely on tax to stimulate productivity. Rather, you need to stimulate productivity to increase your tax base. If more people become wealthy they would become economically visible and the tax authorities can go after them.
sadly people with high IQ like you are are not up to 3 in Nigeria. If we have more people like you everywhere in Nigeria. Nigeria will be the best country in the whole world. Chai I wish we can met but take this cold drink first

If Goodluck Jonathan could keep the price of pms below N100 per litre when the price of crude in the international market was above $100 per barrel, I wonder why this liars can't keep the price of pms below N100 per litre when crude is just up to $66. And it's funny to note that this same deceivers led Nigerians to protest when the price of fuel was increased slightly by Jonathan. All of you should be ashamed. Buhari, Tinubu, Akande, Liar M and the rest gang. I hate you all. You can't subsidize fuel but you can settle bandits and kidnappers.

Thank you!

Walahi we are in for a very long ride.

By the time crude start selling for 100 USD, we should be prepared to buy fuel for 500 Naira a litre.

This eventuality will ultimately ruin the remaining purchasing power Nigerians have left.

This is the sad reality of this 'Dutch disease'.

I see subsidy being reintroduced soon.

Fuel price increases a history

I dey like proffessors like you .... for the record hope you know buhari broke the record ...
My concern is not about fuel price comparism with previous govt, if you really wana compare lets talk about the inflation index lets draw up a comparism in relation to purchasing power.

We don't pay for power like other countries do.

We pay tarrifs that are not cost reflective, plus at least 40% of subscribers for power...to give an example...don't pay even.

Other countries pay their bills, or pay higher taxes to get better services.

Well, inflation has been always high....

We are undergoing a similar issue we went through in 1982-89....economic crisis due to oil being too low to sustain us revenue wise.

(That's where I criticize Bubu, the fact is, he had tools with which to get us off our reliance on oil , which he isn't using.)

Truth is, the same complaints you are complaining now, were made back during each and every time fuel prices were raised.

Well, I did not believe him then because the government was still setting the price, and as such paying a subsidy.

Once the price is set by the government and not by marketers or refiners, there is a subsidy.

Politicians of all shapes and sizes lie.

Once again, I do thank you for insulting me. In response, may God bless you (or if you are not religious, may you get the best of what you wish yourself.)

The subsidy issue is something that isn't about Buhari and GEJ...it is about whether we should pay for fuel at the market price, or subsidise...ie pay below the cost of producing and transporting the fuel, and compensating depot owners and marketers with a set sum...called a subsidy.

The problem is, over the years, it has become increasingly difficult for government to pay that subsidy. The problem also is...removing the subsidy means higher food prices and other price increases. Yet...paying the subsidy means that government takes money from other sectors, including ironically the oil sector to cover losses made due to cheap fuel prices...which isn't enough to cover oil losses.

I used to support oil subsidy till 2011/12, when GEJ's attempt to remove the thing...led me to actually sit down and read and understand what a subsidy was all about, and eventually led me to be a subsidy opponent.

Oh and by the way, apology accepted.
