We can enjoy life in this country if we have sincere leaders but sadly we have wicked people in power with funny followers who don't speak truth

If government stopped inflating cost of project, embark on projects that will have positive impact in lives of Nigerians then this country will be better

Example of inflated project is the newly built rail system even devil will be busy shaking his head with the way they inflated this project yet not 100% functional

Even then, the income available before looting is very low for a nation our size.

So, we should subsidise fuel to the tune of 1.2 TRILLION naira or more annually, and take loans to cover up the deficit resulting ?

Removing subsidy is the best way. We should have done this since 1993, even 2012.
TALK WITH YOUR BRAIN AND NOT YOUR YANCH,REMOVING THE SUBSIDY MAKE NO DIFFERENCE BECOS THE GOVERNMENT IS USELESS THEY WILL STILL STEAL THE MONEY AND TAKE IT ABROAD WHILE THE MASSES STARVE TO DEATH .

The problem with Nigeria is that most people don't pay taxes...we have a low tax base...

SAUCE: Nairametrics :Nigeria’s records 6.1 percent tax to GDP as tax base for VAT rise to N23.7 trillion

We might have a low tax base, but has the level of social and capital development even been commensurate with what Nigeria has realized from tax earnings so far?

FYI, Most of the informal sector you talk about earn less than 50,000 a month. When we are globally rated as the poverty capital of the world with over 90million people earning less than 1USD a day, do you expect these 90million people to pay taxes when they can barely survive. Are they not almost up to 50% of the entire population which is a close metric to the untaxed informal sector you talk about?

You cannot simply rely on tax to stimulate productivity. Rather, you need to stimulate productivity to increase your tax base. If more people become wealthy they would become economically visible and the tax authorities can go after them.

..... And this is how General Buhari, the specialist in failure and his gang of Efulefu's in the APC choose to welcome Nigerians to a new month.

Just yesterday, I saw a comment by one notorious Buhari Media Cow (BMC) saying that Baba lifeless has the interest of the country at heart, I wanted to reply him, but I remember that I have already layed some curse on people like him who deliberately voted the daura drunkard.

A litre being sold at N230 is not just a wicked act, but also a demonic display of hatred for the common man.

Like I always pray, May it never end well for anyone who deliberately enthroned the disaster called Buhari.

What is so special about fuel being sold at N230 per liter, about 6years ago we bought fuel for N1000 in this country heaven did not fall, you people are wasting too much energy on unnecessary things, there are a lot of things that need your involvement, I mean the msme is there, the nyif is there or even the nirsal grants, get involve in these and be productive

You cannot simply rely only on tax to stimulate productivity. Rather, you need to stimulate productivity to increase your tax base. If more people become wealthy they would become economically visible and the tax authorities can go after them.

And the only way to stimulate productivity is by raising taxes so that money exists to be able to build the infrastructure we want.

Plus, if you want functioning power, we cannot be producing power at N53 per kwh and selling it at N20-30 per kwh or N51 per kwh and expect power companies to make the profit they need to make improvements

Same thing for fuel...we cannot be selling fuel at a lower price than the cost of its production which is what we did for years till all our refineries went to the dust.

Everything costs something. I hate the idea, but it is sadly a fact.

We can't run a produictve economy when we keep on using the we are poor excuse to keep fixing prcies...driving away the agents that are needed for icnreased productivity in the first place.

THE CYCLE GOES ON:

Labour threatens to go on strike;

Government and other stakeholders dialogue to prevent the strike action;

Then they agree at a meeting point of the ORIGINALLY INTENDED AMOUNT - say N200.

That's how it will one day reach N1,000,000,000 per litre.

Who will wake Nigerians up?

That has no bearing on the topic...plus most Euorpean countries pay higher than 400 naira.

UK pays N655 naira per liter...and that's an oil producer.

France pays 699 per liter.

Norway is the third largest producer of oil...and pays N755 per liter.

Guy, I'm sorry to insult you but I think you are very very stupid.
When you guys want be clever by half, you start muddling up things to confuse people.
What is the purchasing power of those countries you mentioned compared to Nigeria.
You stylishly converted their currencies to deceive people. Do they earn and buy their fuel in naira? What is their minimum wage?
Since you want to be clever, then let government set the minimum wage per hour to be exactly like those countries so that Nigerians will pay exactly what those countries pay.

You don't get it

On every 1naira petrol you buy there's tax on it

Even when you board commercial bus or motorcycle, you pay tax

Even if your earnings is 10,000naira per month, you still pay various taxes unknowingly

50naira stamp duty on every 10naira deposit is there & if you receive 10,000naira & above in hundred time in a day, you got charged 50nairw on each 10,000naira, that's not tax? 7.5% charges on every calls you make is not tax? 7.5% on cable TV subcription is not tax? 7.5% on bank transfer charges is not tax? I can go on & on

That's why I said you don't know what you r saying

All the 7.5% you mentioned is VAT na. Which JUST increased from 5%. Even in many African countries VAT na 10 -15% o! Talkless of European countries where its as high as 20%.

Focus on the income side of the argument. That's where the problem is. How can minimum wage be N30k. But minimum wage is that low because we have 200mln people and govt wants to employ everyone by itself.

Left to me, I;d increase minimum wage to N100k, but sack 35% of Federal workforce (states should do the same). Unfortunately the same NLC no go gree. NLC wants to eat cake and have it. Either take higher salary and less staff or same salary and same nos employed. Too many people in govt are sooooo unproductive.
