iamDrRhymes:Very intresting question and valid view point. I had a similar experience about 16years ago with a redeem pastor couple when I was leaving in Cardiff. I had a car and jejely offered to drop the car less pastor couple off at home taking the centre used for the church service was quite a walk away from town or nearest bus top. When we finally got to the car after waiting around to clear up and their post church pastoral services, they said they wanted to pray on the car for me, taking I just recently bought it. They go into prayers then tongues. Me I'm jejely muttering my English prayers. They asked if I don't speak on tongues and I'm like no. What they didn't know is I wasn't a newly converted Christian. Infact then many now pentacostal Christians come from baptist, anglican or Catholic backgrounds. But me my family had been part of the 1st wave of pentacostal Christians, they ones labelled Scripture Union (SU). So my walk as a born again Christian wasn't new. As a 10year old I used to speak in tongues, then their were periods in my teenage years where I didn't even believe in god, post teenage and around uni I on my own accord found my way back to God. No pressure, no preaching no shame! So for some pastors to guilty trip me into faking something that was crystal clear in the bible that it isn't for all, but exclusive to some at God's remit. As you rightly quoted the Bible stated to some he gave the gift of tongues, interpretation, faith etc. Now my faith till date knows no bounds, but the pastors didn't consider that. So they prayed and prayed and prayed but dear old me didn't break out in tongues. At last we embarked on the journey not without them ladenning me with scriptures to read and ask God for the gift. And sincerely I did, in my quite times I'd pray and ask, but nothing came to me and I wasn't going to form something in fakery. Everytime the pastors saw me, they'd ask if I've received the gift yet and each time I said no. Months or a year later. I was seeing someone, he was Muslim but got along like a pack of cards. He lived in a different Town too, so some weekends I'd go see him but he spent most of his weekends with me. I had been away a couple of weekends back and after church this day, the husband pastor appeoa he'd me about my essence. I thought it was a good time to up about this serious relationship. So I said, yes, I been away to see my boyf. He then asked, is he a Christian (meaning born again) and I go No. He then goes into the tirade of not been unequally yolked etc. Then he asked what branch of Christianity did he practice, then I go no, he is Muslim. He then thought this wasn't a standing discussion it required sitting and digging into the books. So that we did, sat down and opened up our Bible. During this, he said 'if I may ask are you in intimate relationship with him". I could have lied but I saw no reason to do so in order to satisfy him, so I said Yes. Take it that if my father and God, the men I had the upmost respect for already knows I was having a sexual relationship with my boyf who the hell is a pastor not to know. Anyways, as soon as I admitted yes, this man started to not just judge me but administer punishment and consequences without even consulting the god he claims to serve or represent. He said no wonder I haven't received the gift of the spirit (tongues). That I should please not help out or work in the church force anymore so the wrath of God would not come upon them. These same pastor couples had been married for 12 years then and did not have any offsprings. Would it have been fair to say perhaps some sin in their lives is why they don't have kids? Abii the god that has not fulfilled the prayers from their mouth would fulfil their prayer from then to me to speak in tongues? Long winded story, ended marrying my boyf, I didn't even tell them or invite them to the weddeing, even though it took place in Nigeria some other church members on holiday around same period all came down for the wedding. On my return, the pastor Mrs approached me and said I heard you're married. I'm like duh, yeah. And she was like I don't think it's right for me to have told "my mother and father in the Lord" I asked who gave them appointment letter. As I can't remember endorsing any. They said by attending the church, I am invariabky their sheep, tuh! When we had our 1st son, even though they like every other church member received the text notification announcing the birth, and even though it's typical in the church to announce new births, for my child the Sunday announcement was "we do not recognise births of kids who's parents marriage is not recognised by God". That there was the straw that broke the camels back and I never returned to the church. Met then years later at a a festival of life, pastor Mrs was all ove me, Sister T how are you? I indesatnd you have another child now etc. But there they were and still are about 25years married, yet childless and here I am, married to the person I live and adorable children and we all thriving. |

Bampeh:Hmmm.......the Holy Spirit (God) ... is using your tongue and heart.....to communicate with God....without your intentions. Hmmm..... God needs your tongue and heart to speak to Himself..... this has nothing to do with you. See crazy explanation? |

Let me tell you my story. Before I gave my life to Christ, I use to laugh when people speak in tongues, some of those tongues sounded funny in my ears, then I gave my life to Christ, I listen to sinach songs, she speaks in tongues in her songs, and the tongues are melodious in my ears, so I sing the tongues along ignorantly, then as times goes on, I will just be talking and a strange language will come out forcefully from my mouth, I didnt know I was speaking in tongues cause I was a Catholic then and most Catholic dont speak in tongues, one day I joined a prayer group on telegram, every 8pm, we pray and the anchor speak in tongues, sometimes I have the urge to laugh during the speaking in tongues, at a point I noticied that almost everybody in the group can speak in tongues except me, I started desiring the gift, so one day they gave us a prayer to pray for those that want gift of speaking in tongues, I prayed the prayer with the desire to speak it, I didnt start speaking it immediately, it was that same day during my midnight prayer, as I was standing and praying, I felt a vibration in my legs and I started speaking in tongues. The tongues I spoke then and the ones I speak now are not the same, the ones I speak now carry serious power and authority, the type that make demons tremble. Glory!!! Please desire the gift of praying in the holy ghost. Jude 1:20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. There are some spiritual potentials you won't be able to unlock till you start praying in the holy ghost. |

Viciheaka:I believed in many of the JW's doctrine for many years but I have come to realize that they are denying the power of God. I still appreciate them till now though and I think they are the most consistent Christian set. |

WINDSOW:There are tongues that do not carry any single fire and there are tongues that make demons tremble, those tongues carry serious fire. Also there are demonic tongues, the ones demon possessed and witches speak, we need to be spiritually discerning to know the real tongues. |

shadeyinka:I still stand by what I said earlier! Ur salvation is questionable when u start having issues with should a born again speak in tongues? Everything starts with being born again, u can't have d holy spirit without salvation. One of the visible evidence of having d holy spirit is speaking in tongues nd Being filled with the holy spirit is an exercise that u put in place urself. Jude 1 Vs 21 ... Building up urself on Ur most holy faith praying in d holy ghost, if u don't speak in tongues how do u get filled? The Bible says he that speak in other tongues speak to God for no man understand him except God nd that he speaks mystery. Being filled with the holy spirit is our responsibility which we exercise mostly by speaking in tongues . The word of God builds one up , d same way speaking in tongues build one up bcuz it's not a one way thing . About d having d gift of tongue, it is for every believer nd it's a gift of the holy ghost that is for all born again Christian. It's not for special Christian. |

Righteousness2:For many are rappers in church today. I was invited to a fellowship back in 2017. I entered the gathering late but after the bible lesson the leader said we should all stand up and pray about God's word we have just heard. Immediately even single member of the gathering started to speak in tongues, I was shock and afraid. To cut the story short the lady that invited me later on wanted to force speaking in tongues on me. But me o gba fun. |

Willie2015:The tongue as talking about in the chapter was purely language. Paul was a multi lingual envengalist that was why he did more exploit than any apostle. You are wrong on this one. |
