Hi everyone. I currently live outside Nigeria but considering moving back to settle down. I have a remote job that pays equivalent of 700k naira per month. The major things I need advices on are:

1) Safest place to live in, and an idea of rent cost for a two bedroom there. I am single btw.
2) Side hustle/business to start to diversify my income

I will not advise you to move back to Nigeria mainly because of INSECURITY

This is the best advice, from the airport I changed my decision. Just come home for a month's vacation and you will have the best decision as to what to do.

I would advise you visit Nigeria for like a month before making your final decision. Nigeria is a tough place to live.

Sincerely, I changed my decision from the Airport. Aside from accommodation, everything is cheaper in UAE than in Nigeria.

My advice for you is to rescind your decision to come to Naija now,it's not safe. You might be kidnapped even before getting to your destination.
Wait till security get better,this is my advice

Don't you read severa news even on this forum of people coming from abroad only to be kidnapped and killed
We hear kidnap cases everyday, it's getting worse on daily basis
I won't advice even my worse enemy to come to Nigeria for now,a country where bandits and kidnappers are pampered and paid ransom,a country where Govrrnors negotiate with kidnappers and even pose for a selfie in the act. It's so shameful

People are visiting Nigeria everyday. Did they guy tell you he want to relocate to the north? Na you wan kidnap the guy? If Nigeria is not safe why are you still here? No money to travel hahaha.
There are safe places in Nigeria he can relocate to and mind his busines nobody will kidnap him.

The most safest place now is Aso rock.... Kidnapping doesn't happen in the North alone you know. To even travel by road now na risk. If I have my way I will japa to a sane clime

enugu is one of the most secure place in Nigeria with some decent neighborhood , very friendly environment with decent power supply . people there don't take life too serious like what is obtainable in Lagos and is environs .
only in enugu that everyone is your friend ,a very libral environment

I worked with a federal agency where I got at least 400-450k monthly ( for protection of information I won't mention names), owned my own 3bedroom flat, a 2012 Camry but still left it all behind to relocate. Currently I save the same amount I was earning in Nigeria( after paying all bills including rent, tax and feeding) and I will advice anyone Against relocating back to Nigeria till after 2023. Nothing seems to be working currently. Many wish they were in ur shoes

OP, I also relocated to Nigeria a few years ago. Based on my experience, there are a couple of factors you have to consider:

1. Back up plan. It is imperative that you have a back up plan in case things go south in this country. So many people did not take this into consideration and are paying for it. When you have the option of moving back, your mind is at ease. If you have problems such as health, academic or other issues, you need to have an option.

2. Capital. This is obvious. To survive this messed up country, you need a lot of capital. Do not TRY to relocate if you don't have enough capital to keep you going for a sustained period of time in this country. Also, do not invest all your money in this country. It is suicidal. The current exchange doesn't favor Nigerians at all ($1:N450). Always have some assets where you are previously based in case of unforeseen circumstances.

3. Accommodation. In regards to accommodation, the question to ask is where you were based before moving abroad. Everyone is talking about Lagos or Abuja. What if you don't know any one in those cities? Most repatriates choose either Lagos or Abuja for obvious reasons. The problem is that those two cities have the highest cost of living in the country. Can you afford them?

4. Contacts. In a country like Nigeria, who you know is very important if you want to make life easy for yourself. Yes, there are quite a few repatriates who didn't know anyone and were able to adjust but I wouldn't recommend that you take that risk. You need contacts for business and day to day activities.

5. Infrastructure problems. As you are well aware, Nigeria has a lot of problems, chief among them is lack of adequate infrastructure. You have to provide your own light, water and internet services. Speaking of internet services, please bear in mind that the internet service in this country is very poor. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If your job requires you to work online, you need to reconsider your option to relocate. A lot of my friends who were stuck here during the initial lockdown complained that they couldn't work from home as the internet service was very slow. Think about that.

6. Side Hustle. It is imperative to have a side hustle as salary income is not enough to sustain you unless you are willing to live below your means. I am not good at business so I can't provide any recommendations regarding side hustles.

These are all the factors that you need to consider before you take the plunge of moving to Nigeria. It's advisable to make a few trips to the country in order to assess the environment and make a decision.
