You pay for that and the system is working in the UK
If you are a professional then your life could have been better because you can get yourself a nice house and a good car.
But in Nigeria, you need a connection for everything
You paid for unused electricity in Nigeria
You pay for waste management but they don’t come.
Can you get a job as a student in Nigeria?
My brother earns over 250K a month but left that because job security in Nigeria is a NO
Cab drivers in Ireland earn more than doctors and bank managers in Nigeria
In the EU, you can sleep like a baby with all your millions and don't need personal security
When I was living in Munich, my street is 10 mins away from where the Bayern Munich players were staying, and no police or special security in that area.
I don meet Thomas Muller for supermarket than I meet my mama
uuzba:

It's funny.
I lived in UK as a student. I worked in a call centre answering phone calls in addition to my studies.
Well, I was a very small boy in UK.
My salary was about £950 per month. At that time, £1 = N250
So that will make the Nigerian Equivalent N237,500 per month.
-
Shey I don land?
Well, My student 1 self contained room rent was £180 per month (then O, not now, 2021) - And this was the cheapest I could find. The next option is to go and stay under bridge.
- The school fees of the school,
- Phone and Internet bill
- Money for laundry (you can't wash clothes with your hand. Their water is ice block)
- Transportation to work daily
- Gas money for heating the freezing room and cooking my food
- Electricity bill money
- Small cash to keep aside for visa applications/extension other serious emergencies
- Small money for 1 shoe like £20 ~ £50
======
The whole £950 don finish be that.
======
I think say na magic.
1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years..... Same thing. Money finish.
==
Maybe if I go again as a professional instead of a student, we may see better job and more money. But then again, house rent now is like £700 PER MONTH O!!,
NOT PER YEAR.

A 100K monthly salary earner in Nigeria is better than a 400K monthly salary earner in the United States.

The luxury lifestyles some of us live here with 100K, cannot sustain us a day over there. We can’t try such in US and save a dim.

Some of our annual rent here is weekly/ monthly rent over there. Can you pay over 100K naira monthly house rent with 400K monthly salary here in Nigeria? You can’t do that, but you don’t have a choice over there. You pay or kicked out of the house.

Some of our people over there are becoming wiser now. They don’t mind sleeping on the streets, work for at least 5-10yrs, move back to Nigeria with their savings. You cannot survive with 100M living comfortably a year over there. Tax go finish you up. But you can live large with 100M for 5yrs or more here in Nigeria depends on your lifestyles tho.

You don’t pay unnecessary tax here. But in foreign countries you pay almost everything.
In naija you can own 10 cars..not in the United States because you pay for packing space for each car. You get the point now?

Some of our people in diaspora, once they earn $10K in a month or so, depends on the job, they’d send $9K down to their Nigeria account and keep $1K for their upkeep. Some would buy lands and build houses for rent or some other businesses.
If you don’t do that, you’d work all your life and come back with nothing. Those of you on this method are wise. But becareful of the people you send your money to here. Trust no one! Get a trustworthy lawyer involved.

U can make unnecessary noise or play loud music here. You can’t try such over there and not find yourself in police cell.

So you see….We are privileged here. We only need to get bad political leaders off the way. By getting involved in politics, national, state, LGA and community affairs. That’s how American youth you admire, do.

They don’t just fold hands, wailing and waiting for a miracle. They debate, disagree, challenge, involved and create. You get the point now?

Luxury lifestyle on N100k a month? Even as a single man, methinks NOT.

You are correct. But most Nigerians will not understand this write up.

When you tell them that a litre of petrol in the US is about N400 and you can pay up to N75,000 monthly electrical bills for a two bedroom apartment and close to a million naira monthly rent even in low brow areas of New York, they don't believe. Heck, even a bottle of Coca Cola is N500. By the way, these are old prices from around 2014. I don't know what prices are like now.

Some of you people like to deceive yourself unto blind patriotism.
The "unnecessary taxes" you're talking about guarantees good roads, libraries, parks, schools, etc. That's much better than paying "less" taxes while wasting money on fuel for generators, etc.
Who told you there aren't houses that can take many cars?? You think all cities in America is as Crowded as NY, LA, etc??
Houses in Nigeria are so overpriced its laughable. Places like Texas have so much land buying and building houses there are way cheaper than the overrated ish I see in Lagos and Abuja.
Families get tax credit of $3600 for each child under 6 and 3000 for children over 6-17.

I'll rather pay "unnecessary taxes" for stable electricity, pipe borne water, security, quality education, etc than no tax for insecurity, epileptic power supply, poor roads, etc.

Saying otherwise is excusing the nonsense these so called leaders we've had for 60 years have given us.

P.S some of the so called "hoods/ghettos" some people look down on is better than at least 85 percent of what middle class Nigeria has access to.

I think what OP is trying to talk about is the PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).

In a lay man’s term, comparing currencies isn’t just as easy as the exchange rate. For example, you see people say they are better off in “Dubai” because they are warning 400k there. They are always quick to convert it to Naira and at that point it looks big to you that is earning 30k in Nigeria.

The big/important question is, what would 400k do for you in Dubai and what would it do for you in Nigeria?

How much is a bottle of coke there?
How much is a plate of rice?
How much is transport fare?
Etc...

If these things are not at equilibrium, then it is advisable you look WELL before you leap.

Don’t allow any agent to tell you, you would earn 400k in Azerbaijani. An educated mind should ask some questions, else you would soon realize 400k isn’t always 400k. If you know what I mean.

On point.

It also applies here;

N250k/month in Ibadan vs N400k/month in Lagos.

Guy you are a walking contradiction.

The priviledge you enjoy is in part a result of poor governance. If the right politician comes in and the laws start working so will the tax laws.

That means the u.s system will be in full flow here. If they are well tax, you will be well taxed. That means your 4000k stipens won't do much for you cus you won't have any corners to cut

Nigerian students are not serious when looking for jobs. Plain and simple.
You think it's one fantastic job with AC that they give student?
Student jobs is basically something like messenger, office assistant, Burger seller, car washing, labourer, or home carer for sick people.
Yes, over there, an employer will go to the University career building and advertise these kind of low skill jobs on the university website, or some pamphlet on the school notice board.
You are the one that will run after the employer to beg for the job. The only thing is that because you are a student, the employer cannot keep you more than 4 hrs per day. So that is part-time work. Plus you still have to read your book and pass your course O.
You can't do full time 8hrs, until you graduate.

So for you in Nigeria, you better go and run around and see who can take you part-time, and show your seriousness with the work as well.

The minimum wage in US is $7.25 per hour. In nara, per month, it is N619,136. While they are are talking of raising the minimum wage to $15, which will be over N1.2 million per month. While in nigeria, minimum wage is dangling between N18,000 and N33,000.

The difference between Nigeria and the West is not really about how much earned or spent. It is about a system you have confidence in, a system you believe that your hardwork will fetch you the lifestyle you crave. In Nigeria here most people hardwork is just drudgery. Even the ones who made it in Nigeria doesn't even have the faith on their wealth in Nigeria, that is one major reason why the rich in politics continues the mindless uncontrolled stealing because they are faithless that any amount is even enough in Nigeria system. We are doomed to that extent

Every nincompoop wants to write. I bet you have never been to America. America is so hard yet those living there aren't coming back home in droves. America is a better country than Nigeria any day any time. I know quite a number of people that have relocated abroad. None of them have told me that they regretted the decision.

Because things are so hard in Nigeria we are merely working for survival. That's why the fuse about salaries.

People in America just work to pay bill and feed themselves and if by the end of the day they couldn't afford to build a house or achieve much, they will have still lived a better life than a rich man in Nigeria..

You see all these Yahoo boys with flashy cars and mansions for a house, their maga abroad are mostly average citizens..

People that are poor abroad can make someone in Nigeria millionaire. That's to show you the difference between the standard of living and quality of life..

Very reasonable
