They had no empire but they were organisd enough to give the British the greatest headache. The British faced their greatest battles in the old Eastern region while they overran places with watery empire. They were also organised to hold create nation state overrunning all in its part until they were betrayed. I think they would have formed a mighty empire if they wanted to. The Greeks didn't want to have an empire. They were independent states until they were forced to create empires by Persia. Well, the same applies to the Igbo. Until the arrival of the British, no external force was daring enough to subjugate igboland. So what is the point of an empire when they were no existential foes? 2 Likes |

An empire that could not even challenge the British. Is that one an empire? Empire that was giving the white savages red carpet right from the sea. The only empire worthy of respect is the Benin empire. The rest na korofo. See the way Usman Dan fodio overran the North. 2 Likes |

Look at this enwe glorifying slavery. The ancient igboman is the original definition of a freeman and the ancient igbos practiced the purest form of democracy. You bragging about your ancient empires which your father didn't own is more like a slave bragging about the wealth of his master. The igbos abolished the concept of authority because authority is a dangerous concept. Authority is an enemy of freedom, a God-given right. A person (king, president, emperor) with authority has the tendency to abuse it and oppress his people. As a result of the abolishment of authority, the ancient igbos had no prisons, no military, no police, no kings, yet they lived peacefully for thousands of years and they were never invaded by any indigenous African tribe. Who born you? The ancient igbos were free men. They had no prisons. If you committed a crime, the people banished you from the vilage so that you can go elsewhere to enjoy your freedom alone. In time of war, the people would collectively fight because they all owned the land. They never had any military because they knew that having a military means the military would be headed by an individual and the individual would be vested with the authority to command the military. And the individual could oppress people with the military. Thia nonsense judiciary wey whiteman bring, wey one person go dey administer justice. If you want your own justice, you bribe the judge. In the igboman's system of justice, we hear the case in the village square and the village will judge you. The people are collectively the judiciary. Can you Nigerians live peacefully without police, military, president, rulers etc? The igbos were far ahead. When you hear karl Marx, Engels, Stalin, Lenin predict that one day, the workers would overthrow the system, when they talk about communism, anarchism, dictatorship of the working class, the igbos were a perfect example of these concepts. The ancient igbos were so advanced to the point that the future which the world is heading to, is the Igbo man's past 6 Likes 1 Share |

Asides the ancient igbos, show me any tribe, state or nation in the world where the people live peacefully without rulers, military, police, etc You idiots are completely ignorant of democracy. The whiteman tricked you into practicing a faux-democracy. Democracy is rulership of the people. Where the people rule. What you Nigerians and the world practice is not rulership of the people, rather rulership of the president. If you idiots want to understand the concept of democracy in its purest and practical form, go and study the ancient igbos. 6 Likes |

thebosstrevor1: you asked for wars bro below are the wars ooooo British penetration in Igboland clearly did not end with the Anglo-Aro War. In the years that followed, the British had to deal with many other conflicts and wars in various parts of Igboland such as the Nri Conflict (1905–1911), Ekumeku War (1883–1914), Igbo Women's War (1929), etc. Major battles Battles in the Oguta/ Owerri area (November 1901) Battles of Esu Itu (December 1901) Battles of Arochukwu (December 1901) Battle of Edimma (January 1902) Battle of Ikotobo (January 1902) Battle of Ikorodaka (February 1902) Battle of Bende (March 1902) |
