Local and state laws vary from state to state, and from region to region. That has been the way before even Kano state came into being (North runs on the penal code for criminal stuff, Sharia for personal and community stuff. South runs on common law for criminal stuff, customary court for personal and community stuff, very roughly speaking).

And the laws governing alcohol are a state matter, not a federal matter.


You are grumbling because the law does not favor your taste. And as I said, neither does it favour mine. But for now, it is illegal in Kano to drink alcohol in non-designated areas. Maybe you should join Kano politics to change the law. Or get your senator to make it a federal offence to ban anyone from drinking alcohol anywhere.

I do not have any problem ever with Kano state & other Northern States operating a shadow government in their region. YES, this is a parallel government.(Religious code of law, Hisba Police that implement those laws & Sukuk banking and financial systems etc are socio-economic governance institutions that the Northerners have forcefully created albert through a legislative process to attempt to super impose the Nigeria secular constitution and State).
