The Director-General (DG) of National Identify Management Commission (NIMC), Mr. Chris Onyemenam has stated that the newly-designed and improved national identity management system is the key to fighting the state of insecurity, other social vices and as well effective implementation of cashless economy. Onyemenam stated this at the weekend when he took some select journalists on a facility tour of NIMC Headquarters, Abuja, saying that world-class equipment has been installed to ensure the agency successfully executes the ongoing national identification registration exercise across the 36 states of the country and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He noted that the national identification registration exercise, when fully operational, would checkmate frequent cases of fraud and insecurity in the country. The NIMC boss also explained that the security features embedded in the new card would make it very reliable for financial transactions and crucial for the implementation cashless economy currently promoted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). He said: “The new identification number will stem down the tide of crime and corrupt practices in both the public and private sectors. The new identity card will checkmate bank frauds. That is the reason why the Bankers' Committee is interested in developing a database. No matter the amount of money they've, it will take them a long time to get to where we are. We need to work together.” Speaking further, Onyemenam disclosed that more than 500,000 Nigerians have so far been registered, while the formal declaration for the registration exercise will be declared by President Jonathan within this quarter of the year. He also revealed that while the major focus is on the national identification number, the issuance of the new identity cards would start before the end of 2013. He said the identity number enrolment and registration exercise would be a continuous one with about 10 NIMC offices in each of the 36 states of the federation and FCT, and further plans to open enrolment centres in all the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the country. “The registration is a continuous process and has no timeline. Compare it with the case of opening a new branch of a bank. They operate everyday without any time frame. Right now, the enrolment centres we have are not enough. “In each state, there are ten enrolment units and are capable of enrolling 500 people a day. We hope to open local government enrolment centres before the year ends. We are currently discussing with government agencies on how we can open registration centres in their offices. This is pending when the private sector will fully get involved”, he said. “We have tried to create that distinction in a way that the card will be your means of identification. The first issuance of the card is free. In the case of misplacement, it will be paid for”, he added. Onyemenam further advised Nigerians to focus less on the identity cards itself, but on the identification number as many embassies and international organisations are beginning to add it to their list of requirements for issuance of visas and other finance and business deals. He said: “In the past, the focus was on issuing the identity cards. Once the focus was there, there was less attention on what was to be done with the database. Our focus now is to create a database for the purposes of affirming the identity of the individual. In the past, people were told to register and the process took a long time before the cards were issued.” “In this case, we will give you something to show that you have registered for it. This is a transition period. Once we gather enough data, you will realise that many things that are being done now will not be necessary anymore”, he asserted. He also spoke on the recent upheaval over the disengagement of over 3,000 staffers, where he refuted claims that the sum of N30 billion was expended in offsetting the affected civil servants. “There was no such thing that we were going to offset sacked workers with the sum of N30 billion. The agency has spent almost N1billion in offsetting disengaged workers. The report that N30 billion was spent is wrong because N940 million was actually approved and they have all been settled. That is not even a problem”, he explained. So, house I believ dat even d ppl dat has even gone for d interview might not be enof, ppl Wil stil get invite for interview as time goes on, so let's wait patiently and kip our fingers crossed! For those waiting for their training invite be rest assured dat ur SMS wil come soon!!! Cheers |

DAFE STEVE: My dear,if u decide to rely on NIMC website for updates as regard dis current recruitment process ,you may get it all wrong. it took NIMC close to a week after they send interview messages to enrolements officers and NIMC state to update their website. if u carefully follow dis tread and other NIMC tread,u will discovered dat some persons other dan Enrolments officers and NIMC state were invited last week for interview. ironically, our dear NIMC is yet to update her website...so my dear forget about dat website for now.my dear Dafe Steve only three roles have been called for noW. ErroLment, state cordinators, maintenance. Frm a confirmed source NIMC still need much hands to fill in their cuStomer service positions in all states. |
