Jigawa State Governor, Gov. Badaru Abubakar has dismissed reports of an impeachment plot against him.


The governor was speaking to State House correspondents on Monday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Abubakar, who chairs the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative, said he briefed the president on issues bordering on agricultural development in the country.

He said the Federal Government was considering the possibility of reducing the cost of inputs and increasing farmers’ yields in order to make them competitive.

Atleast one person, a police officer,
has beenconfirmed dead members of the pro-Biafra separatist
group, IPOB,
in Abia State, the police have said.
The police also announced that at
least 59
suspected members of the now
outlawed group
have been arrested by security
officials.
The new police commissioner in Abia
State,
Anthony Ogbizi, who stated these,
also said
suspected members of IPOB, recently
arrested,
will be prosecuted for murder, arson
and other
related crimes.
Mr. Ogbizi disclosed this during a
press briefing
and parade of seven suspected
members of IPOB
at Ariaria police station in Aba.
He said following the proscription of
IPOB by
governors in the South-east and its
declaration as
a terrorist group by Nigerian Army,
anybody found
with Biafran materials would be
arrested and
prosecuted.
He said that they would be
prosecuted under the
anti-terrorism Act to ensure they
were properly
dealt with.
Mr. Ogbizi, echoing what the army
had earlier
said, stressed that IPOB by their
action had
shown itself to be a “terrorist group”
which must
be dealt with as such.
He said that between September 10
and
September 14, the Ariaria police
station was
attacked by suspected members of
IPOB who destroyed everything at the
station.
He said they came with petrol bombs
which they used to gain entrance,
destroy properties and took
three pump action guns.
“Even some policemen were seriously
injured. In
fact as I am talking to you, one of the
injured
police officer is dead. Doctors tried in
vain to save his life.
“Now we have lost a soul and you
know what it
takes to train a police officer. You
know the vacuum that creates. It
takes a minimum of one year to train
a police officer”, he said.
Mr. Ogbizi said they also destroyed
property of lawful citizens too adding
that their demonstration was not
peaceful.
He also alleged that the group
attacked a nearby
bank to get money to acquire more
weapons.
The police boss said about 30 IPOB
members
were arrested when they attacked
soldiers at Isiala Ngwa and about 29
were arrested in Umuahia.
He said that suspected IPOB members
also attacked military officers and the
residences of
Commissioner of Police and AIG Zone
9 in umuahia.
Mr. Ogbizi said that the army
recovered several exhibits including
the coat of arms of Biafra from the
suspects.
“As I am talking to you now

$50m Recovered Loot::Whistleblower Narrates What Transpired In The Lagos Apartment Where EFCC Seized $50m

The Director-General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke has claimed that the $43 million, N23.2 million and £27,800 (N13billion) cash found in an apartment in Lagos last week belongs to his agency, information available to SaharaReporters suggests that the woman seen hauling the money into the apartment in Ghana-Must-Go bags may have been Folashade Oke, his wife.



Recovered Loot in Ikoyi


Sahara Reporters investigation has revealed that the owners of Apartment 7B gave Folashade Oke, with phone number +2348059833410, as their contact. Sources at the NIA confirmed Folashade to be the spouse of their Director-General, Mr. Oke.

The day after the money was discovered, Mr. Oke had told SaharaReporters he could not verify any information about the money as he had not read any report linking his agency to the cash.

After pledging to speak to us thereafter, he did not take any calls until he suddenly announced that the money belonged to NIA, and that it had been approved by President Goodluck Jonathan for certain “covert” activities.

One of the whistleblowers responsible for the discovery told our correspondent that since he started working on the property as a guard, a woman who spoke fluent Yoruba repeatedly brought huge bags of money to Apartment 7B. That particular property was known to guards as Apartment “Dash-Dash” because in the records there were two dashes where the name of the owner ought to be.

He recalled that on two occasions, he helped the woman, who was always curiously dressed in a haggardly way, to carry the money to “Dash-Dash”. The woman, on the first occasion, gave him N10,000 as a gift, and on the second, N500.

He said the woman would spend about two hours in the apartment, then go freshen up in the gym at the back of the building before leaving.

According to the whistleblower, who is in hiding for fear of his life, there are about 19 fully occupied apartments and 2 penthouses at the 16 Osborne Road, Ikoyi, property. Estate valuers estimate each of the apartment with four bedrooms and state of the art facilities to cost about N250 million.

The building is owned by a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmed Muazu, who is currently in Singapore, according to persons knowledgeable about his movement. Mr. Muazu, after initially denying ownership of the building, has now owned up.

The whistleblower said Mr. Muazu has many prominent Nigerians as apartment owners in the building. They include wealthy former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, who owns one on the first floor; recently-retired Managing-Director of the NNPC, Esther Ogbue, on the second; and TV personality and owner of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu, on the 4th.

He further told our correspondent that Patricia, a daughter of former PDP “Mr. Fix-It” Chief Anthony Anenih, lives in Apartment 7A. That is next door to 7B, which is now claimed by the NIA as belonging to it although only one woman, the wife of its Director-General, was ever seen in the premises in a home-decorating mission to furnish the apartment with up to N13 billion in raw cash.

Further investigations show that both Apartment 7A and 7B were initially owned by former Ms. Anenih and her husband Edo-Osagie, who used a company known as Bishop Hills Enterprises Ltd to buy them from the former PDP chairman. It is unclear at what point they parted with 7B.

Sahara Reporters made efforts to contact Mrs. Edo-Osagie but a family source said she could not comment as her mother, Patricia Anenih, has just died. Mrs. Anenih, who had been sick for some time, died yesterday according to family sources.

Asked by Sahara Reporters if there are CCTV cameras in the building, the whistleblower said there were none when he was a guard there. This is curious, considering the caliber of Nigerians who live in the building. However, a resident at the building said there are hidden CCTV cameras installed by Siemens but they are not known to the regular guards

The whistleblower also said there were no guards or security agents operating from within Apartment “Dash-Dash.” He maintained that apart from the woman who brought bags into the apartment, there were no occupants or operatives living or working there.

The whistleblower’s account somehow tallies with the denial of the Central Bank of Nigeria earlier today that it ever sent bullion vans to take money to the apartment, as claimed by Mr. Oke.

Meanwhile, the EFCC operatives who raided the building have stated that in addition to the vast sums of money they found in various currencies, they also retrieved 2015 posters and presidential campaign paraphernalia belonging to former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then Vice President, Named Sambo at the scene.

No less than 15 persons were feared dead, on Wednesday, along Onitsha-Owerri Road at Ihiala in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the accident occurred when a trailer, fully loaded with bags of cement, lost control and rammed into hawkers, passersby and other Owerri-bound vehicles loading passengers by the roadside.


An eyewitness, Mr. Uchenna Udeze, said the accident occurred around 4:12p.m when the trailer, said to belong to the Dangote Group, wanted to overtake another trailer belonging to the same company but did not do that successfully and instead lost control and crushed both the hawkers and others.

But there were conflicting reports about the number of casualties.

While some people said they saw 15 dead and many others injured, others said 12 were dead. But Udeze said the number of deaths he saw was three including a female university graduate whose name was given as Ogechukwu.

The lady had reportedly concluded National Youth Service but was one of the bread hawkers along the expressway near Total filling station, Ihiala.

Udeze said the accident must have occurred as a result of over-speeding. He noted that most of the trailer drivers appeared to be under-aged and also said that government should prohibit loading passengers by the roadside on that expressway which he described as very dangerous.

Udeze said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ihiala, responded immediately and had to control the traffic and took care of the accident victims.

Some of the injured persons were said to be two pregnant women and a two weeks old male child and its mother. One of the survivors of the accident, Mrs. Regina Ndikoha, who spoke to our correspondent at God’s Favour Specialist Hospital, Ihiala, said it came as a film to her.

A medical officer at the hospital, Dr. Egbo Benjamin said Mrs. Ndikoha had her head injured but has been responding to treatment while other victims with lacerations were also responding to treatment.

It was gathered that the corpses of the dead were deposited at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala. Authorities at the morgue said only two corpses were deposited there.

When contacted, Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Princess Nkiruka Nwode, confirmed the incident, saying two people died, while others injured and she attributed the accident to over-speeding and reckless driving.

A pregnant fashion designer, Fatimah Shodunke, on Friday told an Agege Customary Court in Lagos that her husband abandoned his matrimonial home whenever she was pregnant.



The 32-year-old mother of two, who resides on James Street, Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, made the allegation while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Gbenga.
She also told the court that Gbenga wanted her to abort her second pregnancy but she refused.
“My refusal to abort my pregnancy made my husband to pack out of the house to an unknown destination without bothering about the welfare our first child and myself until l gave birth.
She added that Gbenga moved out of the house again in December, 2016, following her refusal to abort her third pregnancy.
Fatima submitted that Gbenga was irresponsible and kept beating her at the slightest provocation.
The respondent, however, prayed the court not to dissolve the six-year-old marriage for the sake of the children.
Gbenga, a mechanic, had claimed in the suit that Fatimah was troublesome and had been threating his life.
He alleged that he moved out of his matrimonial home because Fatimah threatened to kill him with a knife.
The petitioner said that he was no longer interested in the union.
The Court President, Mr Phillip Williams, said that the court would do its best to save the marriage.
He adjourned the case until May 2 for further hearing.

N23bn Bribe: Diezani, Others Charged With Money Laundering, INEC Staff Pleads Guilty

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke (said to be at large), and three others for money laundering.



One of the defendants, a staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Christian Nwosu pleaded guilty to receiving N30million as bribe from the N23billion alleged Diezani bribe meant to compromise electoral officers before the 2015 general election.

Nwosu was among three INEC officials that were docked by the EFCC before Justice M. B. Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on a 7-count charge bordering on receiving gratification to the tune of N264,880,000.00 (Two Hundred and Sixty-four Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira).

Nwosu and the other accused persons, Yisa Olanrewaju Adedoyin and Tijani Bashir had, on March 27, 2015, allegedly received bribes from Diezani ahead of the 2015 general election.

The charges were to the three accused persons who were present in court, and Nwosu, pleaded guilty to the charges while Adedoyin and Bashir pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo then informed the trial judge that Nwosu had elected to enter into plea bargain with the EFCC adding that Nwosu had already made a refund of N5 million and surrendered the title document of a landed property he purchased for N25 million in Delta State.

In his address, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the first defendant had entered a plea bargain agreement with the Commission also stating that “the first defendant also gave account of the properties he used the money to acquire.

“He brought the title documents to the EFCC office.

“Having demonstrated remorse and given useful information to aid the prosecution of the case, he has entered into an agreement to forfeit the properties to the Federal Government. The properties are listed in the paragraphs 1 and 2 of the plea bargain agreement.

“The EFCC has recovered the N5m left from the first defendant, having spent N25m to acquire properties.”

Counsel to the first defendant, Adaku Ngbangba, pleaded with the court to grant her client bail on self-recognizance, adding that “he is a first-time offender. He has put in over 20 years in service. Given his honestly, I urge you, my Lord, to grant him bail on liberal terms.”

Counsels to the second defendant, Ngbangba, as well as counsel to the third defendant, Nelson Imoh, also pleaded with the court to grant their clients bail on self-recognizance.

Consequently, Justice Idris found the first defendant liable as charged on count seven but deferred the sentencing of the first defendant to May 7, 2017.

He ordered that the first defendant o be remanded in the EFCC custody till the next adjourned date but granted bail in the sum of N50 million each to Adedoyin and Bashir, adding that they should deposit their international passport with the court’s registrar.

SAN FRANCISCO, April 05, (THEWILL) – The Kaduna Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested members of a notorious syndicate of fraudsters made of four Nigerians and one Nigerien who specialise in duping innocent persons of their hard earned monies.

The arrested fraudsters are Salisu Rabiu, a.k.a Maimagani; Ibrahim Idris, a.k.a Dankano; Haruna Abdullahi, a.k.a Balogun; Abubakar Umar, a.k.a Fulani; and, Magaji Musa (Nigerien) a.k.a Maishayi.

The five-man gang met their waterloo when they conspired among themselves to lure an unsuspecting victim into believing that some unclaimed boxes containing huge amount of USD were kept with some herdsmen believed to be accomplices by an unidentified politician.

Doubtful of the story, the would-be victim contacted the EFCC which swung into action and arrested the gang members in their hideouts.

The suspects were arrested in a bush along Sabon Gari, Kurmin Kogi, Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

A search of their hideout, which is suspected to be a kidnappers’ den, led to the startling discovery of a sum of five hundred and seventy thousand ($570,000) fake US dollars and some charms.

All the suspects are in custody while investigation continues.

According to Wilson Uwujaren, Head Media and Publicity, EFCC, “the Commission wishes to use this opportunity to warn members of the public to be wary of any get-rich-quick offer in order not to be a victim of scam.

“However, those who had fallen victim to the nefarious activities of this syndicate are enjoined to report to the Commission’s office located at No.4 Wurno Road Kaduna State,” he stated.

Why I woun’t honour Wike’s commission of inquiry – Minister of Transport (Amaechi)



The immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has again given reasons why he is opposed to the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Nyesom Wike to probe some government transactions, while he (Amaechi) was in office.

The former Governor noted that all his successor was seeking was to see his political down fall.


In a statement signed and made available to newsmen by Amaechi’s media office, the Minister of Transport reiterated and emphasized that he’s not afraid of a fair and decent probe or investigation or inquiry of his administration; and would cooperate and support such probe or investigation or inquiry in as much as such was done within the ambit of the laws.

The statement reads, “Wike has set out to do is anything but a fair probe. The commission will not be fair to Amaechi because it was set up to indict him.

“Wike had repeatedly held that Amaechi, the person to be investigated, acted illegally in the disbursement of public funds and that Amaechi ran a corrupt government.

“Clearly, Wike has prejudged the matter and showed his bias that Amaechi is guilty even before investigations.


“This means Wike, with his prejudiced, made up mind has taken a position of a guilty verdict even before the outcome is known or established.

“The same Wike who had adjudged the yet-to-be-investigated conduct of Amaechi as illegal and Amaechi as corrupt, is the same person that has gone ahead to set up a commission of inquiry and will have the final say on the findings of the commission. What a sham!

“This bias and predetermined agenda to indict Amaechi is obvious even in the terms of reference of the commission. In one of the defective terms of reference, Wike said the Commission should investigate the circumstances that led to the ‘sale of the state Hotel Olympia’.

“With a fair and decent probe, the Inquiry should have been ‘to examine (or investigate) the transaction concerning Hotel Olympia’.


“The difference is so clear: In the former, jaundiced Wike’s Term of Reference, it has been prejudiced and concluded that the Hotel was sold, while in the latter, the Inquiry is open and fair, and may lead to a finding of a sale or a lease or even a gift or even a pledge.

“Now, having so concluded that Hotel Olympia was sold, would Wike be decent and humble enough to reverse himself if documents showed it was never sold but concessioned or leased?

“This is one of the dangers of Wike’s commission that harbours a predetermined outcome in the name of an Inquiry and Amaechi will not subject himself to Wike’s deceit and phony shenanigans. Hotel Olympia was never sold.

“The hotel was only concessioned (or leased) on the approval of the State Executive Council and not sold.”

“Even while inaugurating his yeoman commission of Inquiry, Wike could not conceal his vendetta agenda. He was clear to the panel members that their job is to indict Amaechi.

“And to do this his dirty hack job, he got Justice G. O. Omereji(the commission chairman), a man who is well known to harbour a long held, extreme anger, hatred and animosity against former governor Amaechi.

“And Justice Omereji has never disguised this his stance and disposition towards Amaechi. As a matter of fact, Justice Omereji even advised a former Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) chairman in Rivers State on measures (to take) against then Governor Amaechi.

“He had expressed his hatred for Amaechi several times to the NBA chairman who was also an Attorney-General of Rivers State. How can we now expect Justice Omereji to be fair to Amaechi, the person he passionately loathes with extreme malice and venom?”

“Anyone who has been following events in Rivers State knows this Wike probe is just a fraudulent sham, a deceptive mission to indict Amaechi.

“Wike’s one-point agenda is to go after his predecessor. Immediately Wike took over, he made a show and gave a performance of his false accusations that Amaechi stripped the Governor’s Lodge bare, saying that the former governor stole spoons, plates, knives, cups, mattresses, forks and even curtains from the Governor’s Lodge! However, in the images Wike showed to back his lies, the curtains in the lodge were clearly there, seen and intact.

“Again, Wike claimed he met a completely empty treasury. That again is another big lie and grand deception. We have said that former governor Amaechi left billions of naira and we even went ahead to mention the banks and give the names of the accounts the money were, as at May 29, 2015.

“We challenge Wike to publish the statements of these accounts and other Rivers State government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) accounts as at May 29; to prove his claim and show the public that Amaechi left an empty treasury for him.

“This Wike’s probe is dead on arrival. It’s ill-conceived and ill-motivated. Wike’s probe is designed to twist and distort, or even completely alter selected legitimate government transactions in his desperation to cook up, and fabricate sham cases of corruption against Amaechi.

“Wike’s probe commission shall not achieve anything beyond political excitements, entertainment and theatrics.

“Finally, Amaechi will continue to use every constitutional and legal means available to protect his name and image from this massive smear campaign, State-sponsored onslaught against him by Wike led government whose sole agenda is a desperate search for a Rotimi Amaechi political downfall.”

South African telecoms giant, MTN, has paid about a quarter of its $1.7 billion fine for failing to disconnect unregistered SIM cards in Nigeria, officials said Friday.

In an interview with AFP, Tony Ojobo, spokesperson of the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, said, “MTN has paid N30bn ($98m, 92 million euros) as part of the fine.”

“The payment is in furtherance of the agreed timetable for payment of the total fine,” Mr. Ojobo added.

He said MTN had already paid N80 billon of the total fine of N330 billion.

The NCC spokesperson said MTN was expected to pay the next tranche of the fine “based on the payment schedule agreed by the two parties.”

In October 2015, MTN was initially hit with a $5.2 billion fine for failing to cut off 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards as requested by the Nigerian government.

Security was cited as being behind the move, over fears that Boko Haram terrorists were using unregistered SIMs to plan and execute attacks in the remote northeast.

Violence by the jihadist group has left about 100,000 dead and forced more than 2.6 million people from their homes since 2009.


But in December 2015, the fine was reduced to $3.4 billion, then cut further in June 2016 to $1.7 billion, which at the time was equivalent to N330 billion.

The payment is staggered over three years.

The Johannesburg-based firm, which is the largest mobile provider in Nigeria, threatened to pull out of the country during the SIM card row, before the fine was reduced.

The former Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Abubakar Kyari, told journalists that the bill also addressed issues in the last election in Kogi state where a candidate died before results were declared.

“In the event of the death of a candidate during elections, before the announcement of the result, that the commission (INEC), shall suspend election for a period of 21 days and give the opportunity to the party whose candidate had died; if the party has interest that is, to continue with the election.

“If the party still thinks that they want to continue with the election, then they would be given 14 days to conduct a primary election and produce a candidate.

The reason for stating this according to him, was because there were several issues in which some persons had said that “the running mate should take over, some are saying that the runner up in the primary election should be considered.


“What we are saying now is that we have laid those on the side and given the party the opportunity to conduct another primary election.

“If the runner up is suitable, then the primary election will decide, if the running mate is also suitable, then the primary election will also decide,” Senator Kyari stated.

There was pandemonium on Thursday as a bird transformed into a human being in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The incident which happened around 8:00am at Agip/Ada-George junction attracted huge crowd from every part of the city.

It was learnt that the bird turned into a lady after it was electrocuted by a high tension wire. An eye witness, Promise Amadi, who confirmed the incident claimed that the bird was on top of a high tension pole by the junction when suddenly electricity company restored power.

Amadi noted that the bird was electrocuted as power was restored and that was when its fell and instantly turned into an unidentified lady with cowries around her neck.

He stated that other birds that flew to the point numbered over ten and that when eventually the unlucky one fell that the others escaped.

A student from the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria who is on scholarship in the United Kingdom, reportedly attempted suicide as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), that were supposed to fund his scholarship failed to keep their promise.
According to Twitter user, @ensydave, who alleged the incident occurred last night in Birmingham, the student whose photo will be made available soon, has been on debts, with no maintenance fee for almost a year.
He also begged Silverbird group CEO and Nigerian Senator, Ben Murray Bruce, to raise awareness on the issue.
