Politics › Re: Agitations For Biafra, Other Secession Plots Unlawful, Says Osinbajo by POULTRYFARMING(m): 3:47pm On Jun 20, 2017 |
barx: Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday reiterated that agitations for creation of Biafra and Arewa youths’ ultimatum for Igbos to leave the North are unlawful and against the Nigerian Constitution.
He stated this during his opening speech at a consultation meeting with traditional rulers from the South East led by Eze Udo 1 of Mgboko Ngwa Amaise in Abia State and Chairman of South East traditional rulers, Eze Eberechi Dick, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, the manner, method and objectives of the agitations are wrong.
The agitations, he said, deserve to be dealt with in accordance with the country’s constitutional provisions.
Osinbajo said that where there were grievances to be addressed, the only way to make anything right is by doing it right, instead of threatening to break the law or the country.
“As you are aware there has been agitation from some of our youths in the south east urging secession, the creation of Biafra. In apparent response young people in the north states, under the aegis of Arewa youths have purportedly issued an ultimatum where they have said set a date for the eviction of persons from south east region who live in the northern states.
“Those agitations, the manner of those agitations, the method and objective are wrong, unlawful and the violation of the laws of Nigeria and the constitution of Nigeria. I want to repeat that both the agitations for secession and the ultimatum to leave the northern states are wrong and a violation of our constitution.
“Our constitution says in Section Two that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“That is the law of our country. Let us not be in any doubt about the fact that the federal government is committed to ensuring that our country remains united.
“And that anyone who violates the law in the manner such as we are seeing all over the place will be met with the full force of the law.
“And the reason why it is so is because Nigeria’s unity enough blood has been spilled and many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost. Many have paid for the unity of this country with their lives and it will be wrong of us as men and women of goodwill in this generation to toy with those sacrifices that have been made.
“This is why men of goodwill in our generation must not tolerate any tendency that drags us in the direction of yet another civil conflict.
“But we must be sensitive to the reasons why there are agitations by the various young men across the various zones of this country. Many have to do with perceived marginalization, some have argued safety in the different zones have been compromised. But I want to say the only way to make things right is to do things right. And it will be wrong of us to approach even our grievances by threatening to disobey the laws or by threatening the integrity of our nation,” he said
He assured that the Federal Government is committed to listening to all the reasons, the various suggestions and the various agitations in order to ensure that justice is done to all persons.
The meeting was a continuation of Osinbajo’s consultations with leaders of thoughts and traditional rulers from the North and South Eastern regions of the country, following the escalation of ethnic tensions occasioned by the agitation for Biafra and the vacation order issued by Northern youths for Igbo to quit the North.
Present at the meeting were Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Da-Allah
Others include Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Staff Abayomi Olonoshakin, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, National Security Adviser, Babangana Mongonu, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, and other top government officials.

smartty68: Sometimes I wonder why a country as big as Nigeria would be singing/preaching unity by our leaders yet they're responsible for the crisis we are facing today because of greed, and the tussles for power going as far as performing rituals with human parts!
Anyways, that's BTW, for Nigeria to be great again, we must have one mindset which speaks unity, equity and equality. Because I don't see Nigeria becoming one even in the next ten decades.
Naija as awhole needs a complete overhaul.
Naija is already on the brink of collapsing... POULTRY FARMING OPPORTUNITY IN LAGOS Are you interested in poultry farming? Are you an interpreneur with a desire to diversify your income? Politics › Re: Igbos Must Return To Their Homeland To Find Peace by POULTRYFARMING(m): 3:39pm On Jun 20, 2017 |

Now more than ever, there has been an increase in conversations centering about the Igbo exodus. Igbos are like Israelites, they will be persecuted every where except they return to build their homeland.
5 considerations for Biafra agitators
1. Those of you clamouring for Biafra, do you evven have a home to go back to? Have you built up your homeland? 2. Never choose to start a fight you cant finish, so what happened at Ore, wont happen again. Have sources of food, plenty ammunition, good roads, high citizen morale, foreign and local support in high places. 3. There is only one way a Coup can end. Some will emerge as victors, some will be vanquished. He who has the victory has the upper hand. Biafra was an indirect result of the 1966 Coup. If the Coup had been successful, there wouldn’t be Biafra. 4. Fighting a war on selfish interests alone is doomed to failure. 5. Trying to leave a nation is an act of rebellion, and will be treated as such. Let no one fool you. It is causing friction in a country that is barely managing to hold itself together.
The Way Forward
1. Discuss, Discuss and Discuss till an acceptable solution is reached. War is not the way . 2. Leave Italy refugee camps, leave South Africa, leave Malaysia, leave the North where your shops are burnt, families jailed and killed, destinies truncated, where you insist on staying all in the name of business and “ego”. You live to fight another day. The Jews didn’t build a formidable nation, Israel, till they came home from different parts they have been scattered to. Build up Aba and Onitsha, make them the next China and Dubai. 3. Have a common cause to fight for, then we can unite and stand with you. After all, the majority of Igbos don’t even believe in Biafra.
And if you insist on leaving, by all means leave, but will you be in a better place? oladeebo: In Colin Warbrick’s words, uti possidetis “was given particular political and legal weight in Africa... by the decision of the Organization of African Unity39 in 1964 by Resolution 16(1)...”. By adopting this decision, the member states of the organization “pledged themselves to respect colonial frontiers as they existed at the moment of decolonization”. Warbrick also states that, accepting the established borders, “however arbitrary and dysfunctional they might have been”, was fundamental to identify both the territory and the people of the state. read more: http://sam.gov.tr/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/BurakCopAndDoganEymirlioglu.pdf

Politics › Re: Biafra: Stop Threatening Us Or You Will Fail Like Buhari – IPOB Warns Osinbajo by POULTRYFARMING(m): 3:11pm On Jun 20, 2017 |
barx: The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo against listening to “evil counsels” by issuing threat when addressing them or he will end up a failure like his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari.
IPOB issued the warning while reacting to a statement credited to the Acting President, saying those agitating for secession will be dealt with.
Reacting to the statement, IPOB stressed that the Acting President has shown that “African leaders lacked the mental capacity and discipline” to operate a “constitutional democracy in a modern world.”
IPOB alleged that the “criminal political cabal” that led Buhari “astray on the issue of Biafra agitation” are influencing Osinbajo that “threatening language, mass arrests, illegal detention, killings and brutal crackdown will frighten” its members into submission but that will not happen.
The group maintained that it’s struggle for “self-determination” was within the ambit of freedom of expression as contained in the “Africa Charter on Human and Peoples Rights” which Nigeria was signatory to.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group wondered why Osinbajo will threaten to jail its members for expressing their rights, adding that its members are ready to go to jail.
The statement reads, “We the members of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu condemn unequivocally the distasteful statement credited to the acting President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osibanjo, to the effect that Biafra agitators who through the instrumentality of IPOB are exercising their God given and inalienable right to self determination, is in violation of the provisions of the General Abdulsalami Abubakar 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
“For such a statement to escape the lips of a learned fellow like Prof. Osinbajo confirms the widely held view that African leaders lack the mental capacity and discipline to operate a constitutional democracy in a modern world. If the corrupt ruling class in Nigeria cannot distinguish between those rights that are sacrosanct, such as freedom of association and freedom of expression under which IPOB operates, then the entire political edifice in Nigeria is a monumental mess.
“It is very shameful that a professor of law cannot situate the Nigeria constitution within the context and meaning of the right to self determination as recognized in international law. Somebody should please draw the attention of Professor Yemi Osibanjo to the provisions of the Africa Charter on Human and Peoples Rights which Nigeria ratified and went ahead to domesticate into her local laws.
“How can a professor of law threaten jail term for those exercising their right to self determination under laws adopted and ratified by Nigeria? This confirms again the widely held view that legal practice in Nigeria is one almighty joke. We are challenging Prof. Osinbajo to show the whole world how, where and when IPOB committed this offence he alluded to since the inception of the current phase of the agitation.
“The criminal political cabal that led President Buhari astray on the issue of Biafra agitation are at it again. By assuring Osinbajo that threatening language, mass arrests, illegal detention, killings and brutal crackdown will frighten IPOB into submission, this same group of corrupt criminals are setting up Osinbajo to fail the same way they caused Buhari’s failure.
“If Osinbajo continues to heed their evil counsel by using threatening language when addressing IPOB he will end up a failure like Buhari. Nigeria must understand how ready we are to go to prison. They should build more illegal detention facilities because we cannot stop agitating for our right to self determination until the Nigerian government accepts the need for a date for referendum on the question of Biafra.
“Professor Yemi Osibanjo should have consulted superior legal minds to advice him before coming on air to make such misleading comments. The Nigerian Constitution and its provisions cannot supersede international charters and treaties freely entered into by the Nigerian state where such treaties appear to render null and void the obnoxious provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
“Those that wrongly advised Prof. Osinbajo to embark upon the citation of the ill conceived constitutional reference to the indissolubility of the Nigeria, should refer to the landmark Nigerian Supreme Court judgement on the case of Abacha Vs. Fawehinmi. United Nations charter on the rights of indigenous people and African charter which was ratified and signed by Nigeria is still in place till today and overrides the Nigerian Constitution on the rights for the indigenous people to the self determination.”
IPOB also warned against the perception that the struggle for Biafra is about war.
“We are warning the vocal few rented saboteurs and uneducated public commentators in Nigeria to stop the perverse insinuation that Biafra agitation is all about war.
“IPOB is not asking for war, rather what we are asking for is self determination and the only way to achieve that is through the internationally recognized instrument of referendum or plebiscite,” the statement added.
