Episode 20

(Granny and Rico drop from a car in granny's compound. With so much excitement, granny leads Rico to the house's main entrance and he curiously follows her)

Rico:
Granny, I hope all is well? I was surprised the lawyer called to tell me you want to see me? Is anything wrong with your phone?

Granny:
(At the entrance)

Rico:

Without saying any more words she opens the door and there is a uniform chorus of ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY' from Rico's family and friends that have been awaiting him for a surprise. Ribbons and balloons are swinging on the walls of the sitting room and at the edges of the center table sets with assaulted wines, drinks, cake and gifts.

Rico:
(Surprised)

Granny:
Wait for more supriiise!

As she stresses the word SURPRISE, Orebe walks down the stairs in a blue floating long gown carrying a mini bag, her hair bounces as she goes toward Rico smiling. Rico is wowed by her radiating charming look.

Orebe:
Happy birthday.

Rico:

Granny:
Yeah. She is the mastermind of this surprise.

Rico:
Wow! I don't even know what to say. Thank you and I'm sorry for...

Orebe:
Shuuush! You don't have to, I am sorry too.

She goes on her knees and brings out a ring box from her mini bag.

Orebe:
(She opens it)
Will you marry me?

Everyone present:
Yeaaah!

Rico:
(Astonished)

While everyone is cheering and expecting Rico's reply, a phone starts to RING. It rings till Rico gradually opens his eyes waking up from his dream, he stretches his hand to grab his phone and he drags it towards himself to check the caller.

PHONE SCREEN: Lawyer Keems.

He picks up.

Rico:
Hello, good morning.

Lawyer:
Good morning. Your granny wants to have a meeting with you this morning, so, get up and get ready, we will be waiting.

Rico:
Okay, I will join you soon.

Lawyer:
Bye.

The lawyer drops the call.

Rico:
(Soliloquizing as he sits up on the bed to regain some strength for the day)

(She drops her bag and turns to the kitchen direction).

(She returns to have a seat. Rico returns with a mobbing stick without its mob head, he tiptoes to her and gives her one strike from behind and she jumps out of the seat).

Rico:

Mary:

Rico:

Bobo frowned but sheepishly obeys her.

Mum:

Rico:
(Confused)

She starts to walk away.

As he sit on the couch opposite granny, she asked her staffs to excuse them.

Rico:
(Anxious)

She remains silent till the last staff leaves.

Granny:
Yes. It's a pity, you couldn't keep a contract marriage, so, how will you be able to keep a real marriage?

Rico:
(Shocked)
Emm...

Granny:

Rico:

Rico staggeringly falls to the floor as he tries to sit on a sofa, he opens a bottle of alcohol and gulps from it. Orebe watches him with pity as he falls. Then she returns to the kitchen.

Rico:
(Drunk)
Jessicaaa! Why did you do this to me? I spent all my life, my money and my trust to please you. You are such an idiot for leaving me.

Orebe returns to the sitting room.

Orebe:
Rico, I don't know who served you breakfast and I don't care but, please, let me sleep in peace this night, your noise is getting out of hand.

Rico:
(Crying)
Yes! It's Jessica. She took all I have and left me in this lonely world, I trusted her but she betrayed me, she got rid of my baby.

Orebe:
Mmh, interesting but this story is non of my business, anyways, may her soul rest in peace.

Rico:

She scales the stairs and heads to her room while Rico consoles himself with cigarettes and alcohol. In the middle of the night, Rico's noise gets more intense disturbing Orebe until she wakes. Angry, She flounces to him in the sitting room.

Orebe:
(Furious)
What is the meaning of this? I'm not saying you shouldn't mess yourself up but disturbing my sleep is what I won't tolerate.

Rico:
(Cries)
Jessica ruined my life, now I am nothing.

Orebe:
I think I should call your granny now because you've started to lose control, I don't think I will be able to deal with that.

Rico:
(Weeping profusely)

She continues to eat. Rico watches her so many thoughts cross through his mind that makes him lose guard to his emotion and he finds himself planting a kiss on her lips. He withdrawals immediately after he regains his consciousness. The moment feels awkward for both of them.

(In Orebe’s parents' house. Orebe’s mum opens the door to her while she falls on her mum's shoulder giving a heartwarming hug as she fights back tears, the shopping bags she held drop).

Mum:
Is everything okay?

Orebe:
I just miss you.

Mum:
I miss you too, we all miss you.

Orebe:
(Tears roll down her check)
I'm sorry mum.

Mum:
No, we are sorry, we made you drop out of school to hustle in the street so you can support your siblings, we are very sorry.

(They disengage).

Mum:
You her crying?

Orebe:
No mummy.
(Touches her face)

Orebe:
Oh, I guess it's tears of joy.

Mum:
I know right, I've never imagined that we will live in a place like this before, you saved us from our miserable life, thank you.

Orebe:
(Tears drop uncontrollably)
Yes mum.

Mum:

She nods, and her mum wipes her tears.

(She gets out of the car, slams the door and angrily kicks the car tyre, she turns to leave but returns to hits the car bonnet with her bag)

(Orebe arrive at home and sees her family in the rain with their properties, she runs to her mum's arms weeping, then she looks to her side and sees Rico's granny watching her, fear grips her).
