Health / What Happens When You Fail To Break Your Stress Addiction by Princejaponais(m): 3:27pm On Jun 03, 2016
Stress addiction isn’t something that everyone reading this will be familiar with but it’s certainly something a great deal of people struggle with. The reason that we raised this issue right at the start of this book though is that it can seriously hold you back from recovery. Being aware of your stress addiction is the first step to overcoming it – without meaning to sound too much like a cliché.

Stress addiction you see will make many of the things we describe seem rather unappealing. If you have a true stress addiction, then you might find yourself being resistant to many of the ideas we’ll discuss and put forward. What’s important is to recognize that this in itself is a symptom. You need to rise above that desire to do more and more if you want to stand a chance at overcoming stress once and for all.

Perhaps the easiest way to put you in the right mindset here then is to break down the risks and the dangers associated with allowing this behavior to continue.

First of all, recognize that stress addiction is ultimately bad for productivity. While you might think otherwise, the reality is that you’ll get more done in the long-run if you take time off in the short-term.

Do you know billions are lost globally a year to stress? That’s a serious amount of money lost unnecessarily and the same also applies on an individual basis. That’s because we need to find opportunities to rest and recover. The body works in cycles and in ‘seasons’ and if we don’t acknowledge that then we will eventually burn out. Remember adrenal fatigue? Remember that your immune system is compromised when you don’t give yourself a break? You can refer to our previous article. If you keep going at 100% then eventually you will collapse and in doing so you will lose days, weeks or even months of productivity.

A good analogy for this is working out. While exercising regularly is great for your health, your confidence and your happiness – working out too much without adequate rest will eventually lead to ‘overtraining’. This is again caused partly by adrenal fatigue as well as other factors and results in a person becoming weaker, tired and unable to workout at all. Alternatively it can leave them very susceptible to illness.

Either way, the smart bodybuilder or athlete knows the importance of ‘back off weeks’ where they give themselves a chance to recover. If you want to get the most out of yourself, then you need to be methodical.

There is a great Chinese saying which is ‘walk or run, don’t wobble’. What this means is that the most efficient way to travel the furthest distance is to walk until you run out of energy, rest and then go again. It’s a mistake to ‘wobble’ push yourself to the brink, as ultimately you won’t be travelling very fast or giving yourself a chance to recover.

And even if you didn’t eventually collapse from the strain of a stress addiction, you would find that you weren’t able to do your best work anyway. When you’re stressed, you become tired, you become more likely to make mistakes and you lose your passion for what you’re doing. What’s more, stress prevents creativity and countless studies have shown that when we’re ‘too’ motivated, we gain a kind of tunnel vision that prevents us from coming to creative solutions to problems.

A great example of this can be seen with something called the ‘candle problem’. Here you’re given a candle and a box of tacks and asked to attach that candle to the wall so that it can burn there and be used as a lamp.

If you motivate one group to find the answer quickly (applying a kind of stress) then they will spend longer attempting the ‘obvious’ solution of trying to attach the candle to the wall using the tacks. This is actually the incorrect solution however and the right approach is instead to attach the box itself to the wall and stand the candle in it. The solution requires the subject to overcome a ‘cognitive bias’ called ‘functional fixedness’ and the only way they can do this is by relaxing and taking their time to think about all the options.

So in other words, even if you could carry on working full steam ahead indefinitely, it still wouldn’t be the best overall choice for your business. It just seems that way now.

Computers / Notable Features To Watch Out In Windows 8.1 by Princejaponais(m): 7:50pm On Oct 20, 2013
Windows 8.1 will come with some nice features both for corporate and personal use. Only some features will highlighted here and mostly those that will be on personal use.

Tethering
At last windows brings tethering to the PC without the need for third party applications. You can now turn your PC to a hotspot after updating to Windows 8.1 and have other devices tap into your internet connection if you so wish.

Improved bio-metrics
Like it or not bio-metrics as a security feature has come and to stay. Though this feature is not new and has been on previous versions of windows some thoughtful improvements have been made here. Windows 8.1 will also be optimized for fingerprint based bio-metrics and will include a common fingerprint enrollment experience that will work with a variety of readers (touch, swipe). Modern readers are touch based rather than swipe and include liveliness detection that prevents spoofing (e.g.: silicon emulated fingerprints). Access to Windows Store Apps, functions within them, and certificate release can be gated based on verification of a user’s bio-metric identity.

Improved internet explorer
Microsoft says the improvements in Internet Explorer 11 will make it load faster, with a side-by-side browsing of sides (what I call multitask browsing).

Desktop and start screen
For those who prefer the mouse and keyboard experience, you've have not been left out as improvements have been made to accommodate you.

Well that is all we all are clamoring for.I get the part where you said your browsing speed is at 15 kb/s, really painful. But the truth of the matter is that it all rests in the hands of our government to enforce the operators to offer good quality service no matter the location of the subscriber. You won't believe that the operators we have here in this country, GLO apart(since it is indigenous), dare not offer shabby services in their mother country. And why is that? Because they are being given a standard and anything below that standard puts them out of operations with fines. That tells us that our government compromises a lot with standards for reasons best known to them.
Big.game:
Unlimited & affordable data plan is what we need, but what is the use of it, if we can't get stable & standard internet connection, E.g, What is the use of me subscribing for airtel's unlimited plan when my browsing speed is at 15kb/s(even at midnight)
Phones / Unlimited Data: Need And Want by Princejaponais(m): 3:23pm On Oct 19, 2013
As the wireless world moves towards delivering more videos and becomes a center of communication, the demand and hunger for unlimited data from the carriers continue to rise. Every little thing we do these days on the networks demand some kind of data usage, be it large or little. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, cloud storage all require data. This is not made any easier with today data hungry devices, tablets and smartphones which are churned out in great quantity yearly. Therefore the need for an unlimited plan is everyone’s desire. But all carriers here in Nigeria won’t offer this plan. Then the question which arises is why are they refusing to offer this plan when their counterparts in America and Europe are able to offer this service? I believe it takes an understanding of how the service is provided to get to the answer.

There are three categories of data subscription that are really available the world over. Let’s all get to know them all.
·
Truly unlimited: here the data limit is truly unlimited within the specified period and it is at maximum available speed. This is every subscriber’s dream plan in Nigeria and it will be a delight really having this plan offered by the operators in Nigeria.
·
Capped or throttled unlimited: the operator operating this kind of subscription does not really offer a true unlimited data like the previous plan above. A typical example of a capped plan is the blackberry subscription plan offered by the operators in Nigeria. Subscribers are being told it is unlimited where truly it is limited with a ceiling of mostly 3GB of data. An example of a throttled data plan is the hourly plan offered by MTN in Nigeria. At the beginning the speed is maximum but upon reaching a certain data usage the speed is reduced drastically.
·
Openly advertised data allowance: this is the most common data plan here in Nigeria. Here the subscriber knows from the onset what he is getting into. So based on his own consumption he knows which plan to choose.

Please it should be noted that these plans could be for handsets or mobile broadband data plans. Now looking at these plans, I believe everyone will jump at the truly unlimited data plan provided the price is reasonable. Judging by the way things are done in this part of the world I doubt if this plan is brought on board if it will be at reasonable price. The argument from the operators over this plan is that it will drastically put a lot of pressure on their cellular network. That is slowing down the network once a lot of heavy subscribers engage in heavy usage to the detriment of other users. If that is actually an issue then I believe this can be solved by an intensive infrastructure upgrade albeit capital intensive.

The openly advertised data allowance plan is the most popular plan here in this part. The operators really make a lot of money from this as many subscribers really don’t understand the MB or GB allocation in their plan. Most times they end up under buying and have to renew the plan again as it is not enough or buy plans they can’t maximize leading to underutilisation.

From reviews in Europe, the capped or throttled unlimited data plan is a win win situation for operators and subscribers. The reasons given are as follow:
·
Subscribers have the benefit of having true unlimited data for a fee though there is a threshold where it gets throttled. But that threshold can be extended for a fee and the subscriber will still experience the same speed as at the beginning.
·
The operators are able to manage the excesses of a truly unlimited data plan once the threshold is reached. All the operator needs do is to be transparent to the subscriber about the presence of the threshold.

At the end of it all, it will be a delight to have the introduction the truly unlimited and capped or throttled unlimited data (with transparency) in Nigeria. Subscribers want to be able to have a variety of plans they can choose from and value for their money.

Science/Technology / Re: Samsung Galaxy S5 To Debut In January by Princejaponais(m): 9:53pm On Oct 13, 2013
Competition is getting stiffer in the smartphone ecosystem. What with the release of the iPhone 5s from the Samsung's rival apple. It is not surprising that it will pack a 64 bit built because iPhone has it. But i hope Samsung will not be having bench-marking codes in it's coding so as as not fool folks with overclocking so as to post a better speed when compared to other devices.
Science/Technology / Safe Mode For Windows 7, 8 And Mac by Princejaponais(m): 9:34pm On Oct 13, 2013
You are interesting in tweaking an app in your system; you know how to do it and you plunge right to it. Somewhere in the operation you are required to put your system in safe mode…maybe you’ve never heard of it (are you geek or not?). It becomes a head scratching and ceiling starring session, you are stuck. Scratch and stare no more. Here is how to.
• WINDOWS 7 Keep on pressing F8 while system reboots

• WINDOWS 8 Type msconfig in search and select safe mode, apply, ok and restart. When exit from safe mode type msconfig in search and unselect safe mode, apply and restart.

For Mac os, it is called safe Boot and here is how to get there.
• Press and hold the shift key immediately after the mac starts up. Continue holding down the Shift Key until a grey Apple logo appears on the screen.
For those who are not so tech inclined but own a pc, it pays to know some basic technicalities involved in your devices. Safe mode whether on Windows or Mac operating system starts the system with a limited number of files and drivers. Start-up program does not come up in safe mode and only the basic drivers needed to start windows are installed. Safe mode is used for troubleshooting with programs and drivers that might not start correctly, or that might prevent windows from starting correctly.

Science/Technology / Samsung: The Phone With The Curved Display by Princejaponais(m): 9:46pm On Oct 09, 2013
Samsung has made its promise good by going ahead to announce the first smartphone with a curved display, the GALAXY ROUND. Science/Technology / New Yahoo Update by Princejaponais(m): 6:55pm On Oct 08, 2013
With a constantly aggressive update and upgrade across all mail clients, YAHOO is not folding its hands. Yahoo is updating its services across all platforms namely the web, IOS, Android.

The update will include a new theme syncing themes; better handling of threaded conversations, a collapsible toolbar and a new compose experience. The most striking feature in the upgrade for me and I believe so many other users are the raising of the storage limit to 1TB. Yes you read right, 1TB! And that is for all users and that translates to about 6000 years of inbox.

Over all I will say that is a really nice update. It’s Yahoo all the way.

Phones / Re: Smart Data Subscription For Your Android Devices. by Princejaponais(m): 3:56pm On Jul 19, 2013
networkgenuis: Ok, its now a common knowledge that MTN has blocked the famous Magic Sim tweak. Hope you enjoyed it while it lasted (I didn't sha, was satisfied with the unlimited BIS though i helped people to configure and use theirs)

The advent of the Magic Sim made not a few moderate data consumers turn into data mongers; downloading hesvy sofwares, movies, streaming TV programs and live matches with reckless abandon grin I even created a thread on how to stream live matchs and watch many Dstv premuim channels for free. This is the link: https://www.nairaland.com/1338153/how-watch-live-matches-tv
I have a friend that will only download the heaviest(HD) of any particular movie available online

What many people don't know is that the use of unlimited data subscription is a bit addictive. You will feel like a fish out of water if you suddenly can't have access to it. cry

Well, you can't stop surfing the web just because MTN don wake up, I was pleasantly surprised that MTN didn't block it for so long despite the hype and abuse by some people.
The aim of this thread is to advice Nlanders on how to make a smart choice when subscribing.

Contributions are highly anticipated and encouraged. Feel free to ask your questions also
I am down to my secong subscription and it only browses when i haave credit in it as it feeds on the units. How do i make the samsung galaxy browse without it eating on my chips? Thanks so much.

Phones / Re: How Do I Free Up Space On My Bb? by Princejaponais(m): 10:46am On Apr 27, 2013
That is an issue that i have come across recently. The problem may stem from the fact that some things mostly pictures or music are stored in your phone memory. So the solution is to decongest your phone memory by transferring the pictures to your memory card. There is no ready available means to do that on the BB. You'll have to download a file manager from the BB appstore. After installing that you can now move files on from your memory to your phone memory or vice versa.I hope that will help.If you got further questions feel free to reply here.
Royaldee: Whenever I wanna download an app my bbworld keeps telling me that I have 2M out of 256M free and therefore nowhere to download.

I only av twitter, facebook, whatsapp wt 2 other apps that are not up to 10M in total. Abeg how did I use up the remaining 254M?

What else can I do to free space so that It won't be hanging the fone and so as to enable me download other apps. Thank you

Phones / Cellphones That Changed The World Forever 1 by Princejaponais(m): 9:56pm On Apr 26, 2013
The first call placed from a cellphone was done 40 years ago by Motorola engineer Martin Cooper.t too another 10 years for the cellphone to be available to the masses. Fast forward to the present day and we are still making calls and dropping calls, loosing networks etc. Today cellphones are not just for calls and texting but they are now a gateway to our digital lives. Everything from posting pictures and comments on social network and also streaming music, videos as well as running offices from them.

Thousands of phones have come and gone, running on different systems from Android to Windows. On this article I will be taking you memory lane to phones that were ground breaking and paved the way for the cutting edge phones we have today.

Motorola DynaTAC 8000X
This was made available in 1983 and it was a culmination of research from 1954 by Motorola. This phone did not come cheap, at the time it costs $4000. This was not a barrier to the early adopters as they were eager to have this piece of technology.

Motorola MicroTAC
In 1989 Motorola introduced the MicroTAC and that was the first flip phone. It was billed as the smallest phone then at 9 inches long. Can you imagine that! Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 which seems so enormous to us now is 6 inches long. This phone packed a lot of first, from security codes, currency calculator,hands-free and important of all a phone book. That marked the beginning of the end to have to write down numbers on piece of papers or memorizing them.

Sony Ericsson T681
In 2002 the T681 from Sony Ericsson provided the crossover from dumb phones to smartphones. This phone has features like MMS,bluetooth, simple WAP browsing and e-mail.

Nokia 3210
This is the phone that announced Nokia in the phone world. The Nokia 3210 was introduced in 1999 and was one of the first phones to have its antenna inside. The popular Snake game was first played in this phone.

What do you think about the leap in technology so far? Watch out for the concluding part. To see the photos of the phones please click on this http://caltechys..com/2013/04/cellphones-that-changed-world-forever-1.html
Phones / How To Improve Your Smartphone Reception by Princejaponais(m): 10:04pm On Apr 25, 2013
Have you ever entered a place and you have been unable to make or receive a single call? Sometimes it gets dramatic, like some folks are just flashing you, and you are like wow, people are just professional flashers…unknown to you that the network at your location is really nothing to write home about.
Now you’ll begin to question yourself why are the network companies claiming high coverage when it has been so difficult for you to make or receive a call? I believe we have all tried various tactics like going by the window, lifting the phone up and moving round the house to catch a stray signal. Surely there are better ways to improve the Smartphone reception and we will be going through them right now.Continue here:http://caltechys..com/2013/04/how-to-improve-your-smartphone-reception.html

Computers / How To Find Affordable Computers On Rent by Princejaponais(m): 1:11pm On Apr 24, 2013
Taking a computer for rent is a very good option for those who do not want to buy one now. For people whose own computers are out of order or do not find good enough services in their computer for their work can simply find people who offer an affordable rental service. It also saves the hassle of having to go to an overpriced net café daily. A computer on rent service gives the freedom to people to entirely own the computer, take it with them for a certain amount of time.
There is no point in acquiring the services of an expensive rental service as if that amount is saved one can own an actual computer. The most affordable options should be considered.

Computers / Learn How To Speed Up Your Computer by Princejaponais(m): 6:17pm On Apr 10, 2013
If you’re like me and you spend a huge portion of your day browsing the web (whether it’s for research, leisure, or just sheer boredom) then you understand how frustrating it is to have a slow, bloated browser that seems to be on its last leg. While some of that slowness can stem from issues unrelated to the browser, like ISP and computer hardware, there are some steps on how to speed up browser speeds.

I should make a note here that if you’re expecting a drastic, mind-blowing speed increase, you won’t find it in this article. Switching to a faster ISP package and upgrading your computer hardware (in particular, RAM) will offer the biggest boosts. The following tips can and will make your browsing experience somewhat sleeker, but don’t expect a “zero to hero” transformation. Art, Graphics & Video / Upcoming Designers by Princejaponais(m): 2:32pm On Apr 08, 2013
For decades young designers have struggled to create good art. They labored and labored and, after what seemed an eternity, had a design; they maybe even developed a homemade prototype. Turning their designs into a practical, physical piece, serving as the culmination of the hours spent at the drawing board, was an elusive end goal.Continue at: http://caltechys..com/2013/04/how-laser-cutters-work-geared-towards.html
