Mama, mama please where is my wife? Where's Ugochi? Adiele asked his mother -in-law immediately he saw her. He was just coming out of the court room when her call came through. On his way he decided to call his parents.
"Ah mine here you are, so where is she? Asked Mr Ezindu, from his facial expression one can see he's in panic.
"Daddy good afternoon" Adiele greeted.
"ah my son good afternoon, you're here already" Mr Ezindu responded as he took notice of him for the first time.
"the doctor is still with her " replied Mrs Ezindu, talking to no one in particular.
After a few minutes, the doctor comes out and the trio rushed to him.
Adiele spoke first.
"Doctor please how's my wife? What is wrong with her?
Who are you sir? Asked the doctor.
"I am Barrister Adiele, husband to Ugochi the lady that was brought in here about an hour now. This are her parents Mr and Mrs Ezindu, oh! right on time and this are my parents, Mr and Mrs Dozie. He answered pointing to his parents who just walked in. "please doctor how's my wife?
"oh I see, can I see you privately in my office?
"I don't think so doctor, we're a close family. Whatever the case is be rest assured that we are going to handle it together". Mr Ezindu said.
OK, congratulations Barrister." said the doctor smiling with his hand stretch out towards Adiele for a handshake.
"thank you sir, that means she's fine please can I see her? Ask Adiele shaking the doctor happily.
"wait a minute doctor, what do you mean by congratulations? Quizzed Mrs Dozie eyeing the doctor.
Smiling and looking at Adiele "your wife is pregnant, congratulations" the doctor replied.
What! shouted everyone
"bu...but..t she has been seeing her menses, how come? Asked Barrister Adiele looking confused.
"Barrister" the doctor call him led him to a nearby chair at the waiting room and explained to them all.
"Some women do have vaginal bleeding during pregnancy. Some even report intermittent bleeding that seems like a regular period to them. But vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is not the same thing as menstruation". He paused looking at their confused faces.
"You see, he went on "menstruation only happens when a woman is not pregnant. Each month, her uterus grows a thick blood-rich lining in preparation for an egg to embed there. If she doesn't get pregnant that month, she will shed this tissue and blood. But once an egg embeds in the uterus lining, hormones tell the blood-rich tissue to stay intact to support the growing baby. She won't she'd it and start having her period again until her pregnancy is over. But in this case, it is called implantation bleeding... Explained the doctor smiling.
"Oh! Finally, I'll have the joy of carrying my own grandchild" Everyone turned and faced Mr Dozie who hasn't uttered anything since. As if on cue they burst into laughter almost at once.
"Please doctor, can I see my wife? Asked Adiele
"why not? She's in room 5, female private ward.
"Thank you" they shouted in unison and rushed to see Mrs Ugochi Adiele....

"Ugochi, Ugochi..... that was her mother's voice. Hurriedly, she pushed everything under the pillow. Just then her mother came into the bedroom.
"Ugochi, I've been calling yo....
Yes mama, why are you here? She cuts in harshly "can't you stay in your house without interfering with mine?
"What is your problem? Why do you want to destroy your home? Asked her mother sitting down at the edge of the bed. "Your husband called me and was complaining bitterly about how you treat him of late. Are you the first woman to get married and not have children immediately? I have always admonished you as a mother to be patient. God has a way of doing things. Don't you remember Sarah in the Bible, Hannah even Elizabeth? What makes you think He has forgotten you. Hold on to your faith. Please my daughter don't do anything you'll live to regret. Pleassssssse". Mrs Ezindu pleaded passionately with her daughter.

"Mama please leave me alone oooo, Adiele is my husband and this is my home. You can not barge in on us anytime you deem fit and talk to me as if I am a child. Leave me alone.... Ugochi blurted out at the top of her voice.

Mrs Ezindu was shocked at her daughter's outbursts, Ugochi use to be a quiet and peace-loving child. She has never raised her voice or talked back at anyone not even her own mother. She remembered when she got her a job at her friend's office, Ugochi refused and this really got to her. She could vividly recall how she compared Ugochi to her other married friends who were working and also taking care of their families. But Ugochi kept insisting she wanted a federal government job. This was to enable her make out time to take care of her children when they start coming. But in all this Ugochi never raised her voice.
Mrs Ezindu was heartbroken but didn't know how to talk to her child that is at the verge of destroying both her marriage and herself.
She opened her mouth to talk but no sound came out only tears poured freely.

"Ugochi please.... She tearfully pleaded

"Get out" Ugochi shouted pointing at the door "get out and don't ever come back".
"OK, I will but........
"busybody leave me alone, leave my marriage alone, leave ah ah ah... Holding her head, Ugochi slumped on the bed.
"Ugochi..... Ugochi..... Mrs Ezindu rushed to her daughter.

Last month menstrual cycle was what broke the camel's back.

"I think I'll end it all today" Ugochi said standing up from her bed and pacing round the room.
"Adiele was my first and only love, he met and married me a virgin, a chorister! the lead vocalist in my church!
G-o-o-o-o-d-d-d-d..... Ugochi exclaimed, kneeling and sobbing.

"Look at Dora, she continued, I was the one who took her to the hospital when she was bleeding all because of the D&C carried out on her by that quack that almost took her life and destroyed her womb. Today that same Dora is a mother to two sets of twins" She cried.

She sat still for a while as if she was reminiscing on past events.
"What about Stan? That repented criminal who ruined the lives of many girls while in school and almost raped me" aaahh--aaahh, she held her head as if it was falling off. "Today he's a father and also has a good job".

Slowly, she went to her dressing table, carried a family portrait and rubbing her hand over the picture she continued her lamentations.

"Look at her" she said pointing to a particular woman on the picture.
"Retired olosho, runs girl that knows all the hotel in Abuja and Lagos. Aunty Meg that dropped out of school because of "waka waka" is today a mother and a wife. Not just a wife oooh! but a wife to a commissioner.
Hmm.... Life is so unfair.
"Look at me, a Master's degree holder, a lead vocalist and member of the charity group in my church. Almost 10years now no job, no child not even miscarriage.
I am now a thing of mockery, good topic for gossips and also called names such as "madam righteous, no evidence" "pretenders does the worst" etc
My tears have become my meat and my day turned to night. People mock my faith and question chastity.
I know its just a matter of time before my husband gets tired and marry another woman.
I must end it all. Enough is enough.
She brought out a small bottle hidden in her shoes, a piece of paper and was frantically searching for a pen when she heard a car drive in. She waited and listened carefully but when she heard no footsteps she continued her search.

Adiele and Ugochi met during their NYSC and married a year and six months after. Adiele is a barrister and has his own private firm while Ugochi a graduate from the faculty of Accounting is yet to get a job.
Just as every newlyweds, they had hope to start having children immediately after their wedding so it was no coincidence that they fix their wedding day when Ugochi was ovulating. But alas, here they are 8years after marriage, no child.
*******************************
Both parents were concerned about the situation of things in their children's home but all they could do was to pray for them.

"Ugochi is the best daughter-in-law anyone could ever ask for, I don't know why this is happening to her, to me". Mrs Dozie lamented facing her husband.
"Mmm...mmmh" he mumbled still reading his newspaper.
Mrs Dozie sigh, her husband has never shown interest in this matter......

********************************
" Sweetheart, please get up and prepare breakfast for me I'm really hungry, remember I took bread and mineral for dinner" Barr. Adiele called out to his wife while dressing up for work. "meanwhile" he continued "today's the final hearing of Mallam Isa's case. I can't wait to be done with it".
After some minutes no response from his wife, he went close to her
"what kind of sleep is this eeeh?
"I am not asleep, you know where the kitchen is just leave me alone " Ugochi blubber without making any effort to stand.
He could tell from the sound of her voice that she has been crying. He decided to leave her alone to avoid quarrel as it has almost become their tradition every morning. On his way out he call to her softly

"Sweetheart, this is the third week I'm going to work without breakfast, no matter the situation I want you to know we're in this together. I love you and will always do. Take care of yourself bye".

On the way to his office, he called his mother-in-law and complained bitterly to her. Mrs Ezindu was heartbroken. She has already taken Adiele as her son. She pleaded with him to have patience.

Hey guys join me in this journey. I'm not promising you a perfect journey but I hope you'll learn one or two.

*PROLOGUE*
"Mom, I don't know what to do, we have tried virtually all the best and recommended hospitals both in and outside this country. All the tests carried out shows that we are medically fit but I don't know what is causing this delay " Ugochi mutter to her mother who came visiting. She wasn't crying yet, but her countenance shows that she's at the verge of doing so.
Mrs Ezindu couldn't find the right words to console her daughter.
"Don't worry, have faith and be patient. I am very sure that one day you'll carry not just a baby but babies. Don't give up". She managed to utter hopefully it will calm her down.

Its definitely the village champion that lashed the nurse. I’m sure of that I can’t wait to see what Mama Akunna has in store for Irikefe.

Nice update Centino Baba. Hope we get a mid week edition this time.

I totally agree with you on this. I'm also suspecting that village champion.
