@aminat508, @zimoni, @hinohsend , @funjosh everyone from the commonwealth thread moved here: oodufamily.freeforums.net |
tpiar:You this w.i.t.c.h, you won't leave this thread alone abi. |
TonyeBarcanista:So why did Kanu need weapons? Please let's be honest here. |
Goodboiyy:Nobody is scared of Biafra, some of us are just tired of the hate from some of the Biafra supporters. If they want to discuss Biafra, they should go to their site and leave Nairaland for Nigerians. If boko haram were discussing here on Nairaland and they were banned, would you have said the same thing? I mean Kanu went as far as sourcing for weapons. That is how terrorism starts. |
itstpia8:Can you stay away from this thread please? You never make any valuable contribution. All you do is derail and attack people. Seun and mods, why the close marking on this thread? We were doing just fine before and everyone was civil. Why are you hiding people's comments? Why did you delete Zimoni's comment about hidden posts for example? Abi there is no freedom of speech again? |
where is everyone? Aareonakakanfo, CabbieAC, Whathaveidone, ilekehd, shymm3x, katsumoto, terracotta, raudmeter, zimoni, 9jacrip et'al Why have you all abandoned this thread? You people should please come back. |
Aminat508:Ese gan ![]() |
shymm8x:Osun ![]() |
shymm8x:Haha Shymm8x, I am not from Kwara. |
shymm8x: ![]() I shall remain mysterious, shymm8x ![]() |
Seun:Seun, we have had to change the title of this thread a few times in the past just so that it stays in the politics section. The Igbo threads on the hand have been there for over a year and nobody has asked them to change the title or moved their threads. The content of those threads is not in anyway different from ours. Why then do we have to be the only ones to bend? If you are going to enforce rules, the least you can do is to make it applicable to everyone. This thread is the only reason some of us visit this site. It has even brought some old members back as we have all found something we are interested in, which is the advancement of our group. Please do right by us and move our thread back to the politics section. Cheers. |
ProfShymex:I am actually from Osun state ![]() |
Katsumoto:Ha! ejo e di de o. You are one of the professors on here, so I thought to accord you your respect ![]() |
IlekeHD:lol, I didn't even look at the moniker before responding. I was too eager to type my agreement. Pa Kats, please accept my apologies ![]() |
Katsumoto:Amen sister! I am with you on this one. |
Shymm3x:The transition from national policing to state policing would be a well planned and gradual process if it were to ever happen. The federal government currently has a budget allocated to defence and security. A portion of this goes into the police force and I would not expect this to stop simply because it is now managed at state level. |
modath:Ladies, I totally understand where you are both coming from. However, the governments can use the current debt/financial situation to their benefit. A lot of the states are running at a deficit which implies that they must cut expenditure and/or increase IGR to keep the states afloat. This is what the senators and representatives ought to be discussing in their respective houses. I believe the state governments should only subsidise education, health care for indigenes or non-indigenes who pay tax to the state government. Please explain to me why Osun state currently running at a 3b deficit should be subsidising the education of someone from Lagos, Enugu or Yobe if they are not contributing to Osun state's purse? It is madness and it is not sustainable. It is all about approach and diplomacy, it won't be a gra gra matter. As an aside, I think our politicians need to find a way to reach the masses; make them feel like they are stakeholders in your government and that you understand their problems, let them understand the challenges facing the government; their plans to tackle them and how it will benefit their respective communities. If their intentions are truly honourable, they will have the support of the people e.g. Aregbesola. |
Katsumoto:Sir, if they are ever going to implement this, it would be staggered process. There are some good roads in the region and I believe the governments could start in these areas. The truth is a lot of individuals/communities already pay (privately) to repair their roads anyway. As long as the government spends the money on the upkeep of the road, I believe people will eventually come around. |
Ibebe:This is why I am a big fan of state policing. Permit to think aloud and hopefully some of the veterans can correct me Why can't our governments introduce road tax on state roads? e.g. Lekki toll do indigenes and non-indigenes who do not reside in the state pay the same amount in state schools (primary - tertiary)? Ditto state hospitals. |
Ibebe:Congratulations Aareonakakanfo! Oluwa a wo wun o |
oduastates:but the south west is relatively peaceful, do you not think we can capitalise on this re tourism? There aren't many people in the region clamouring for regionalism or secession, so in the meantime we must find a way to make the current system work for us. I agree that we should look at regionalism or secession as a long term solution because the more development recorded in the SW, the higher the number of economic migrants from other parts of the country and we MUST have the power to control this. |
Firefire:In summary, I am asking you to take your party BS elsewhere, we don't need it. Find yourself a proper job or set up a viable business because power is not returning to PDP any time soon. |
Firefire:Can you please stop this nonsense? You have gone on and on about the ills of APC but haven't once proffered a solution to any of the issues plaguing us as a region. It is obvious you are more concerned about your party and in turn your pocket than you are about the Yoruba nation (that is if you are truly Yoruba). We don't need this here, please! @iyalode, please ignore the anonimi character as he/she is not Yoruba. @all, I have a few observations as I am one of the silent followers of this thread; 1. I saw that some of you took swipes at two popular posters (ar3sa and passingsh0t). In all honesty, I don't believe that was necessary. You don't win people over by insulting them plus a lot of people have multiple monikers on this board. 2. There are people who follow this thread religiously but do not contribute either because they do not know a lot about the politics in the south west or do not live in Nigeria and this thread serves as a place to learn. Therefore, when these people have a contrary opinion to most of the thread's contributors, can we please answer or state our case without insinuating that because they do not contribute often, they have no right to air their opinion. |
Aareonakakanfo:I was hoping to sneak in without anyone noticing. I am always on here reading and learning from everyone. This thread has been an eye opener for me. |
Hmm...this is very optimistic but I don't think it is achievable. My biggest gripe with Ambode's press statement is that he has an end date but hasn't successfully re-negotiated its funding yet. What if it falls through or negotiations take longer than he anticipates - another story again? But Ambode, who told Reuters on Thursday that “by December 2016, the light rail should be delivered,” had earlier said a new funding arrangement was being worked out to speed up work on the project and get it ready next year It is a very good initiative because it means people can live in the surrounding areas but work in Lagos which should hopefully de-congest it. Anyone know whether OIC, Oyo and/or Ogun governments are contributing to this? I asked the other day what is stopping us from going back to a regional form of government. What do we need to do to get this? Also with a regional system of government, can we realistically control migration? The biggest issue (and I believe Aare has touched on this) is that, no matter how well we develop our region under this current system, we have no control over the number of people who migrate to it. This will put a strain on our infrastructure, culture and way of life which we can't afford. |
django1:The title is so that we include all Yorubas regardless of geographical location e.g. Diasporans, Kwarans and Kogi Aare did ask for opinions before he changed it and no one spoke against the change or suggested title name. |
shizzy7:So what do you think we can do to empower these states? Ekiti - Tourism (IlekeHD, any ideas?) Osun - I think Agriculture and Tourism would be two options. The state government started OREAP which I think is a really good initiative but needs a lot of private investment. OSUN RURAL ENTERPRISE & AGRICULTURE PROGRAMME To achieve its agricultural development objectives, the State of Osun has designed and is implementing the Osun Rural Enterprise and Agriculture Program also known as O-REAP. Agriculture has been the main stay of Osun’s economy over the decades, especially since the giant strides made by the old Western Region Government. However, very little progress has been made over the years in building on this foundation to transform the economy of the State using agriculture as a driver. Due to a lack of focus in the agriculture sector, the gains achieved by the Western Region government have been gradually eroded. O-REAP is the State’s programme to achieve agriculture reformation and economic growth. Vision To make the State of Osun the food basket of the South West Mission Serve 10% of the Lagos food market Strategic Objectives ◾Food Security Increase the cultivation of arable crops such as maize, cassava, cowpea, vegetables, etc. for local consumption. This will ensure that food is available in the State of Osun in sufficient quantity and at affordable prices. It also ensures that the State is adequately protected against natural disasters such as drought; food shortages; and the vagaries of the market place such as price inflation. ◾Job Creation and Youth Empowerment Create job opportunities for farmers through massive increase in agricultural production. Agribusiness opportunities will be created by linking farmers to consumer and industrial food markets for the selling of their produce. Their capacity to capture more value along the agricultural value chain will also be enhanced through the development of support schemes towards their participation in the establishment and operation of upstream and downstream ancillary agro-allied industries. ◾Economic Transformation Using Agriculture as a Key Driver Leverage the comparative and competitive advantages of the State in agriculture to transform its economy. As a producer driven industry, the majority of farmers would fall into the category of small and medium scale enterprises (SME). SME’s have been known to be the driver of economic growth in several countries around world. They account for 90% of businesses and employ on average 50% of a nation’s workforce. ◾Wealth Creation Increase household income for individuals engaged in the agriculture sector and other agro-allied industries. As farmers will now be part of the formal sector, O-REAP will also lead to an increase in the internally generated revenue of the State through the payment of taxes.
