Religion / Re: Apostle Suleman Demands N1bn From Keyamo For Damages by Prodigy246(m): 10:35am On Mar 10, 2017 |
Ralphlauren: My dear what "heart of heart"? I hope you can repeat all these (or should I rather say JUDGE) should you be standing before God. The fact that Suleiman Johnson is a Clergyman doesn't make him different from you and me before God. He is also a human. What Keyamo did is a total deviation from rules and regulations guiding the practice of law. Did you hear him say they sued Apostle Suleiman? He tried to ambush a fair trial in anticipation of litigation....Keyamo is a good lawyer but has also lost cases (I mean LOST) in the past too so don't praise him that much. LAW is not practiced on social media. The Apostle and the said lady are adults for God's sake. Nothing would change about some people's character (ranging from Politicians, prostitutes, fornicators, thieves, perverts e.t.c) if any of them is found wanting and eventually convicted. IT'S BETTER TO STAND AND WATCH while we change from our bad ways. Thanks. |

Health / Ebola: Why Patrick Sawyer Travelled To Nigeria – Wife by Prodigy246(m): 6:57pm On Aug 13, 2014 |
The widow of late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought Ebola into Nigeria, has defended her husband’s decision to travel to Africa’s most populous country, saying he did so in desperate search for a country with better healthcare system than his own country. In an article published earlier today, TMZ Liberia Magazine http:// www.mytmzliberia.net/) quoted Decontee Sawyer, who is a radio host in New York, as explaining that Mr. Sawyer had no trust in the healthcare system in Liberia and had possibly headed to Nigeria with the hope of receiving better treatment for his ailment. Mrs. Sawyer shared her thoughts on her Facebook profile from which TMZ Liberia sourced it for publication. “I’ve read other reports in other papers (not the New York Times) about Patrick’s “recklessness.” I get where they’re coming from, and they certainly have the right to feel the way they do. However, as Patrick’s widow, I would like to shed some light on this from another perspective. One that only I, his wife, would know,” she wrote. “I knew Patrick better than anybody else (including himself). He had told me many times in the past how much he didn’t trust the Liberian healthcare system. He would tell me about how a person would get checked in for one thing, and get misdiagnosed and get the wrong treatment as a result. On top of that, Patrick was a clean freak, and told me how filthy a lot of the hospitals were. “He didn’t tell me this, but I know in my heart of hearts that Patrick was determined to get to Nigeria by all means because he felt that Nigeria would be a place of refuge. He has expressed to me many times in the past that he felt passionately about helping to be a part of strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, but he knew it wasn’t there yet, and he wouldn’t want to take a chance with his life because a lot of people depended on him… Patrick had a passion for life, and he wouldn’t have wanted his to end. So, I bet anything that he was thinking, if I could only get to Nigeria, a way more developed country than Liberia, I would be able to get some help. How ironic.” In her post, Mrs. Sawyer wrote that the fact that her husband avoided contact with others at the James Sprigg Payne’s Airport in Monrovia as revealed by airport CCTV footage proved he didn’t set out to infect others with the disease and perhaps his actions were that of a dying man in desperate search for help. “It has been reported that Patrick avoided physical contact with everyone he came across during his trip from Liberia to Nigeria. When he got to Nigeria, he turned himself in letting them know that he had just flown in from Liberia. “Patrick went to Nigeria for help so that he can get properly diagnosed, and not misdiagnosed in Liberia. And if it came back that he did have Ebola, he trusted the Nigerian healthcare system a lot more than he trusted the Liberian’s. His action, as off as it was, was a desperate plea for help. Patrick didn’t want to die, and he thought his life would be saved in Nigeria.” Mrs. Sawyer then took a swipe at the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf, who said Mr Sawyer was indiscipline and disrespectful for failing to heed medical advise not to travel. Mrs Sawyer said if President Johnson- Sirleaf had fixed the healthcare system in Liberia, her husband would not have left in search of treatment elsewhere. “I write today, not simply because of Patrick, but because of the broken healthcare system in the Liberia, and the government’s inability under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (and other past Presidents) to fix it. Good doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers aren’t given the support they need to save lives. “President Sirleaf went on CNN News throwing stones at Patrick, a man who can no longer defend himself, a man who worked tirelessly for Liberia. She should be ashamed of herself. I use to admire this woman, and was excited and proud of her accomplishment as the first woman President in the entire continent of Africa. She will always own that. We will always own that. It can’t be taken away from her. It’s something to be proud of. But this woman has failed her country,” she wrote. Nigeria was free of Ebola until July 20 when Mr. Sawyer arrived. He became terribly ill on his flight and was rushed to the First Consultant Hospital Obalende, Lagos, where he died on July 24. Nigeria’s Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said on Monday that although the Liberian government has apologized for the incidence, it was pertinent to note that Nigeria was free of Ebola Virus until its importation by the Liberian- American. Mr. Sawyer’s action, he said, has placed unnecessary stress on Nigeria’s health system. Since Mr. Sawyer’s death in a Lagos hospital, two other persons who had contact with him have died of the virus. At least eight others have also tested positive to the infection and have been quarantined at a Lagos hospital. President Goodluck Jonathan has since declared a national emergency on the disease while the federal health ministry in conjunction with health ministries in the 36 states are working to prevent the spread of the virus, which has killed over 1,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Family / How To Run Family Budget With Your Spouse by Prodigy246(m): 11:08am On Oct 11, 2013 |
Poor management of your household finances can place a strain on your marriage or relationship, ADEMOLA ALAWIYE writes. One sticky subject that arises for couples who have just begun living together is how to split their household expenses. Experts say to avoid any problem, there is the need to sit down with your partner and have a sincere discussion about how your household expenses will be paid. Marriage counsellors say it is important to carry your spouse along when making financial decisions in a family. The ability to save is vital, but involving your family in the process is more beneficial. Financial security in a family, according to experts, doesn’t come easy, but requires adequate planning and strict adherence to saving. This, however, can only be meticulously achieved when you involve your spouse in the management of your family finances. The experts say in most situations, there is an individual in the family who likes doing all that pertains to numbers and payments. This fellow pays the bills, manages the spending or cash flow, looks for great deals and works on spreadsheets, leaving his or her spouse out of the activities. But experts note that even though this individual is doing all of these things, there is still another money manager in the family. “No one person can do all the money arithmetic in a home, you have to involve your spouse and you will be surprised at his or her input,” says a marriage counsellor, Mrs. Felicia Sanyaolu. She notes that your spouse might not be as involved in the day-to-day management of your family’s finances, and explains that this is because in many cases, your spouse doesn’t have the knowledge of how much money is in the family’s bank account. Experts note that most times, the spouse just knows how much he or she can spend on entertainment or clothes for the month and maybe a few other budget categories at his or her disposal. According to experts, this is a dangerous approach to family finances. “No one knows what might happen to the breadwinner of the family and if something costly happens to him or her, what will the spouse do?” Sanyaolu asks. She further considers how the spouse steps in and manages everything if something drastic happens to the breadwinner. Experts, therefore, say it is important for both spouses to manage their resources as this has great benefits. Below are simple steps on how you can involve your spouse in financial decision making: Budget money together This is very important in a home, experts say. They note that spouses should budget their money together each month as this will boost their savings and trim unnecessary expenses when shrewdly done. Even though you have fixed spending in place, there are still planning decisions to be made each month for discretionary spending, marriage counsellors say. One thing you must understand is that your spouse doesn’t have to be necessarily involved in the day-to-day finances at the level of detail as you may have, but should have knowledge of the resources and how they’re being used. When this is done, he or she will appreciate it if undertaken for mutually gainful reasons. Review expenses together occasionally According to experts, it is also important you review expenses incurred by the family occasionally. This could be on a weekly or biweekly basis. Professionals say while the monthly meeting is important, so is a weekly meeting about money. They note that all that this requires is a review of spending for the major budget categories and a discussion around new significant expenses needed for the month. It could be seen as a status meeting for both spouses. You may not know how much you are saving for your family by doing this until your spouse is not around. If you want to take it to the next step, you can write down the balances of the major budget categories for your spouse so he or she knows the overall state of the spending plan. “This also has a way of unifying the family, especially the couples,” Sanyaolu adds. Switch bill-paying duties Let your spouse pay some of the bills. If your spouse is not usually the one who pays the bill, allow him or her to give it a try for some time, but be willing to offer help if necessary. Experts say this will give your spouse a better understanding and appreciation of how important it is to be involved in the decision making process of your family’s finances. Allow your spouse to pay some of the monthly bills, but don’t overload the person who doesn’t normally do this work for the family. You may give him or her a few key bills to manage, as this is a great way to involve the person and for your spouse to feel fulfilled being a good financial steward that contributes to the family. Do the calculation together This should not be left to one person. Engage your spouse in the maths. Allow him or her to try and calculate how the family would thrive on a limited sum for a week or month. If your spouse still can’t see the importance of his or her participation in the financial decision making, sit down together and look at your budget or create a budget if there is none. When the numbers are right there in front of your eyes, it’s easier to be involved in the family finances. He or she will be forced to make inputs, provided you are both in good terms at the time of working on the family budget. |

Foreign Affairs / Drought May Hit Nigeria, Others –world Bank by Prodigy246(m): 9:30am On Oct 08, 2013 |
OCTOBER 8, 2013 BY EVEREST AMAEFULE, ABUJA. The World Bank has said drought may hit some parts of Africa, including Nigeria, between now and 2015. In a report entitled: ‘Africa’s Pulse’, which was released in Abuja on Monday, the World Bank listed the other African countries that might experience the first wave of drought in the period as Ghana, Cameroun, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal and Tanzania. The report also painted a scenario of what could happen to agriculture and food prices in the affected countries in the event of the predicted drought. It stated, “In Africa, droughts are recurrent events, with adverse effects on local communities and the ecosystem. In a region where the majority of people depend on farming or raising animals, droughts inevitably have very negative consequences. “The first wave would hit Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania and Uganda over 2013–15, and the second wave of drought would hit all the remaining countries in the region over 2016–18. “In line with previous studies, drought is modelled as a temporary shock to productivity in agriculture. Consistent with similar historical shocks, a level of productivity shock is chosen that would reduce agricultural output initially by around 10 per cent compared to the pre-shock level.” It added, “Subsequently, productivity recovers to its pre-shock level over the next two years. Following the drop in agricultural output, prices of agricultural produce and food increase much faster than the equivalent baseline numbers. “For Ethiopia, Nigeria, or Zambia, the initial shock results in an increase in agricultural and food prices by an additional 15 per cent. Imports of food products increase significantly to replace domestic output. Households will bear the burden of higher food prices. “Even though wages of unskilled workers rise, the increase in income is slower than that of food prices. Since food expenditures constitute a high share of household budgets, without government or international intervention, real consumption would decrease substantially.” However, Director of Weather Forecasting, Nigeria Metrological Agency, Mr. Ifeanyi Nnodu, told our correspondent that the agency had not received any such signal, adding that it did not forecast weather for a three-year period. “I have not seen the report. However, our weather forecasting is for one year period. We have released that of 2013 and we are working on that of 2014,” he said. The report stated that following the global financial crisis and recurring climatic volatility on the continent, a growing number of African countries were setting up social safety nets to protect the health and livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable people during periods of adversity. It noted that the safety nets could protect families from the worst effects of crises and also contribute to growth as well by allowing people to raise their incomes. According to the report, buoyed by rising private investment in the region and remittances now worth $33bn a year supporting household incomes, Gross Domestic Product growth in Africa will continue to rise and pick up to 5.3 per cent in 2014 and 5.5 per cent in 2015. Strong government investments and higher production in the mineral resources, agriculture and service sectors are supporting the bulk of the economic growth, it said. The report noted that as Africa’s growth rates continued to surge with the region becoming increasingly a magnet for investment and tourism, while poverty and inequality remained unacceptably high and the pace of reduction unacceptably slow.
