President Bola Tinubu has ordered “comprehensive reforms” for Nigerian football, and the directive could not have come at a better time.

For years, Nigerian football has been trapped in a cycle of poor performances, administrative crises, litigation, leadership disputes, and growing distrust among stakeholders. If we are truly serious about fixing Nigerian football, then we must start with the foundation of football administration — the NFF Congress.

With the resignation of the Gusau-led board and the National Sports Commission receiving FIFA’s nod to establish an Interim Management Committee, there is now an opportunity to properly reset the system and lay the groundwork for a more credible future.

Reforming the NFF Congress should be one of the first major tasks of the Interim Management Committee.

Why?

The NFF Congress is the highest decision-making body of the federation. It elects the President, amends the statutes, approves budgets, and makes decisions that shape the direction of Nigerian football.

In simple terms, whoever controls the Congress has enormous influence over Nigerian football.

That is why reforming its composition should not be treated as an option. It is urgent.

The current structure, where the 37 State FA Chairmen form a major voting bloc, has created what can be described as a form of “delegate democracy” — a system where political loyalty can sometimes take precedence over football development.

The principle of “one man, one vote, one state” may appear democratic on the surface, but it risks creating 37 powerful kingmakers while leaving many of the people and institutions that actually drive Nigerian football without adequate representation.

So, what should change?

As stakeholders prepare for the next phase of reforms, Nigeria needs a new NFF Congress that is more representative, equitable, transparent, and development-focused.

The Congress should give meaningful representation to the different constituencies that make Nigerian football what it is — while reducing excessive political influence and increasing the role of expertise and genuine football stakeholders.

To ensure legitimacy, the various associations and constituencies should conduct their elections and nominate their representatives at least 60 days before the Congress meets to elect its representatives.

This would give stakeholders sufficient time to participate, scrutinise the process, and prepare for the decisions that will shape the future of Nigerian football.

My Take

The old NFF structure is gone. But removing a leadership structure is only the beginning.

The real test is whether Nigeria will use this opportunity to rebuild the system from the foundation.

Will the reforms produce a more transparent, accountable and development-driven NFF?

Will they improve the Super Eagles and Super Falcons, strengthen our domestic leagues, develop grassroots football, and give young Nigerian talents a better pathway?

Or will the same problems return under a different structure?

If we are serious about fixing the house, we must start with the foundation: the NFF Congress.

Good that the National Sports Commission has got the nod from FIFA to set up an Interim Management Committee after the resignation of the Gusau-led board. There is now enough time to set our bed neatly for a proper respite.

This must be the first job of the Interim Management Committee after FIFA’s nod this week.

The Congress is the highest decision-making body of the NFF. It elects the President. It amends the statutes. It approves budgets. In short, whoever controls the Congress controls Nigerian football. That is why reforming its composition is not optional. It is urgent.

The current Congress structure, with 37 FA Chairmen as a voting bloc, has created a culture of “delegate democracy” where loyalty is traded for development. One man, one vote, one state has produced 37 kingmakers and left the real stakeholders of the game as spectators.

As stakeholders prepare their minds ahead of the reforms, here is a concrete proposal for a new NFF Congress that is representative, equitable, and development-focused. It reduces politics and increases expertise.

To ensure legitimacy, the various associations and constituencies shall hold elections to provide representatives at least 60 days to the Congress to pick its representatives. This will guarantee transparency and give all stakeholders time to participate in the process.

Tinubu has reportedly asked a United States federal court to prevent the public release of records held by American law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI and DEA, concerning historical investigations involving him. The request was made in a 16-page filing submitted in an ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit.

The case was initiated by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan, who has been seeking records from US government agencies relating to investigations involving Tinubu dating back to the 1990s.

The records sought include FBI and DEA materials connected to those historical investigations.

The FBI has opposed the release of some of the records. The bureau has argued that revealing certain information could expose sensitive law-enforcement information and potentially put individuals at risk. It has therefore asked the court to allow some of its explanations and supporting material to be considered privately.

Am Profesaw Fred, a seasoned writer and social commentator.

I am here to write on this unfortunate and disturbing story that happened recently in Nassarawa involving a 22-year-old Nigerian man, Samuel Ezekiel, who has recently gone viral and has raised serious questions about alleged illegal organ harvesting in Nigeria.

According to reports, Samuel says he was deceived by a friend, Emmanuel Ode, into undergoing a procedure that resulted in the removal of one of his kidneys.

The surgery reportedly took place on April 24, 2026, at Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja.

Samuel claims that Emmanuel initially presented the situation to him as an opportunity to donate a kidney and receive payment. He says he trusted his friend and agreed to undergo medical tests.

According to his account, after the first test did not produce a match, he was later informed that another recipient had been found.

Samuel further alleges that his identity was changed during the process. He says documents were prepared and he was identified as “Hassan Abubakar.”

He was subsequently taken to Wellington Hospital, where he underwent the kidney-removal procedure.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the story is what Samuel says happened to the money.

Police reports indicate that the kidney was allegedly sold for about $1,250, equivalent to roughly ₦1.7 million at the relevant exchange rate.

However, Samuel says he handed the money he received to his friend Emmanuel, who allegedly exchanged the money and spent it on items including phones, power banks and Wi-Fi devices.

Samuel reportedly ended up without the money and even had his phone sold to raise money for transportation.

In other words, he says he lost a kidney but did not even get to keep the financial benefit he was supposedly promised.

But the case has now become much bigger than a dispute between two friends.

The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested four people in connection with an alleged organ-harvesting syndicate operating around Abuja and Nasarawa.

Among those arrested are Emmanuel Ode, who is alleged to have acted as a recruiter, and two doctors, Dr. Benjamin Oyime and Dr. Daniel Otukpa, both reportedly nephrologists.

Another suspect identified as David Idoko was also arrested.

The police say the suspects were arrested during a sting operation in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on August 19, 2026.

Investigators are now looking into whether Samuel's case is connected to a wider network involved in the illegal harvesting and trafficking of human organs.

However, it is important to make one thing clear.

The suspects have been arrested and accused, but they have not been convicted. The allegations against them still have to be investigated and proven in court.

There has also been another viral claim circulating online that many young people around Nyanya, Mararaba and surrounding areas have been selling their kidneys.

The FCT Police Command has denied that claim, saying it has not received or confirmed reports that youths in Nyanya were selling their kidneys.

Therefore, the claim about widespread kidney sales should not be presented as established fact.

What is confirmed is that Samuel's case has triggered a police investigation and that several suspects, including two doctors, have been arrested over allegations connected to illegal organ harvesting.

There are still many unanswered questions.

In the video he said he was a student but didn't mention the school. While they were busy flogging the hell out of him, the bandit boss was asking him why his people refused to send in the money. As the boy was answering he instructed his boys to flog him. I couldn't watch the video without tears dropping from my eyes.

Please the government should really do something about this kidnapping, it's getting too much and out of hand. For how long are we going to keep folding our arms and watch our students, corpers, children and brothers and sisters begin tortured like animals. This is really bad in all honesty.
