Onasanya disclosed this while briefing pressmen at the Exquisite Magazine Annual Cervical Cancer Events held in Lagos. “Some of the practical approaches of EMAC to raise awareness for cervical cancer prevention includes; the #Smearit campaign to raise more awareness and the Smearathon (free screening women ages 18 and above for cervical cancer and organizing annual cervical cancer awareness walks. It is unacceptable that a form of cancer that is preventable kills one woman every hour in Nigeria. She said that EMAC Cervical Cancer Smearit walk seeks to spread the word about the essential steps women need to take to stay healthy and encourage parents on how important it is for pre-teens to get HPV (Human papillomavirus) vaccine, both girls and boys.

“This year, EMAC seeks to continue to create more awareness for cervical cancer prevention through the annual walk on the 4th of February, 2023 at Eko Hotel at 7 am. PoliticsLagos State SDP Chairman And Excos Dump Party, Join Jandor's PDP by ProfesawFred(op): 4:08am On Jan 24, 2023
The Lagos State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Miss Dabiraoluwa Adeyinka, and some other state executive members have dumped the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeyinka, leading about 15 other party executives to the main opposition party on Monday, said that the decision was based on personalities with the tickets of the PDP in the state.

According to her, the group consulted widely before settling for the PDP, having considered the reality on ground.

She said they also considered some personalities in the party like Ms Funke Akindele, the Lagos PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate.

” We are proud of this and find it convincing. We find a lot of attractions in PDP.

“The likes of Funke Akindele are a role and model for us. She likes us as youths, she is accessible and a young mind, who has impacted the system in Nigeria by creating employment for Nigerian youths.

“She (Akindele) is doing wonderfully well and she is a sellable youth. She is a voice for the women and a voice for the Nigerian youths.

“She (Akindele) is motivation even without meeting her in person. We want to join force with an entity like that,” Adeyinka said.

Adeyinka added that the group was also attracted to PDP because of the likes of Mr Wellington Bankole ( Banky W), the PDP House of Representatives’ candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency.

“Those are people we want to reckon with because for Nigerian youth to be able to speak and make impact, we have to come together as one force. We need a force to change status quo.

“We want a Lagos for all not for a few. We want a Lagos that works for everyone. We want to kill the system of godfatherism that puts our lives in danger.

“We need to find the right direction, we have a torchlight in PDP. Not because it is PDP, but because we have people of like minds like Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran and others there.

“We were not paid to do this or under pressure., It is high time for Nigerian youth to get involved.

“We want to be able to elect people into office because they merit it not because the system put them there,” she added

Foreign AffairsPresident Zelensky of Ukraine Makes First US Trip Since War Began by ProfesawFred(op): 12:21pm On Dec 21, 2022
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed on Wednesday that he was on his way to the United States to meet President Joe Biden.

The trip will be his first foreign trip since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
Zelensky will address Congress and hold a number of meetings in the US, according to BBC.

The White House has also confirmed the trip and said it will supply Ukraine with a Patriot missile battery, to increase the country’s air defence capability.

“On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defence capabilities of Ukraine,” he wrote on Twitter.

Zelensky regularly hosts foreign leaders in the capital, Kyiv, and has visited troops around Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president has also spoken frequently to world leaders over the telephone and by video call – often from his office in Kyiv.

However, his surprise visit to a foreign country marks a first since the war began and also signals the importance of Ukraine’s relationship with the US, which has played a leading role in providing military support.

CrimeSoldier Beaten To Stupor For Killing Guest At Funeral In Lekki by ProfesawFred(op): 4:16am On Dec 21, 2022
Soldiers kill guest as siblings clash at funeral

A guest, David Chinonso, has been reportedly killed at Owode, Ogombo community, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, after some military men stormed the burial of one late Mathew Ekpu.

The uniformed men, numbering 15, were said to have arrived at the venue in an attempt to stop the corpse from being interred on the premises of the deceased.

This led to a confrontation, as one of the deceased’s sons, Victor, was hit in the head with an iron, while Chinonso was shot in the chest.

The children of the deceased, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, accused their sibling, Richard, of leading the attack, which happened on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

One of the children, Victoria Abimbola, said Richard was planning to acquire their father’s house and had demanded that the deceased be buried in their hometown in Akwa Ibom State.

She said, “My father gave birth to 10 children, and before he died, he told us that Richard, his second son, built a house for him in our village. We were happy when we first heard until Richard told him that the house he built was in exchange for my father’s house in Lagos.

The rest of us disagreed with the decision and we told him that the house is the only property our father has in Lagos and it is more like a family house to every one of us. After that, he started putting pressure on our father, who later fell sick and died on September 5.

After our father’s death, he (Richard) prevented us from burying him in the house. He also tried to stop us with policemen the day we took the corpse from the mortuary for burial, but we restricted him.”

Another family member, Victor, said he was attacked while trying to interrogate the military officers who stormed the burial.

He said, “Some uniformed men came in the morning to stop us from burying our father, but since they did not provide any document that warranted their visit, we sent them away.

“So, we were holding a thanksgiving service in the church adjacent to our father’s house when the officials returned with five military men. They entered the premises and started to destroy property. When I stepped out of the church, I saw them assaulting the 15-year-old son of my brother, Daniel. By the time I asked what happened, one of them hit me with an iron rod on my head, while another hit me with a club from behind. I fell immediately. Some of the guests, who saw what happened, confronted them and while trying to chase them, one of the uniformed men fired a shot which hit David Chinonso, who died on his way to a hospital.

Richard, however, denied the allegations, saying he acquired the property with the consent of his siblings.

He said, “Our father needed money to build a house in his hometown in Akwa Ibom and relocate there, so he told my brother, David, who is his first son, to buy the house so that the property would stay within the family, but he did not.

“Then in 2020, my father asked all of us to jointly acquire the house, but others complained about funds. When my brother Victor suggested an external buyer with the intention of getting a commission, my father declined and approached me to acquire the house. He also told them and they all agreed.

“So, I struggled to provide the fund, built the house, and got the documents. Since then, they started making financial demands on me and because I could not provide them, they conspired against me and my father.

My father told me how they threatened to kill him, bury him and use his grave to claim the property. I told them if they did not want me to take possession of the house, they should return the money, but they did not. And since my father insisted on being buried in his hometown before he died, I reported the matter to the police.

They were invited for questioning but they did not show up. While my elder brother moved into the house with his family, they also rushed to bury my father there. That was how the relevant authorities I reported the matter to moved against them and not me.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

He said, “We are aware and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The military officers were invited and they provided the information needed and their details. I will do a follow-up to confirm the update.”

PoliticsNo One Can Destroy My Political Structures In Kwara by ProfesawFred(op): 4:24pm On Nov 04, 2022
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says his political structure in Kwara remains intact and cannot be successfully attacked and sunk.

The minister said this in his hometown Oro near Ilorin at the traditional marriage of his grand daughter, Dr Toyosi to an Engineer, Gbolahan Sambo.

Recall that the marriage which took place in the minister’s compound was attended by his political allies and supporters who thronged the venue in their hundreds.

Reacting to a question from newsmen on the presence of the political associates and supporters in their numbers at the ceremony, Mohammed said he had never lost touch with them.

“I am glad you noticed that I have here today the same people I have been working with in the last 20 years politically in Kwara.

“Though they tried to pluck me away from them, we interact regularly and we have almost become a family.

“I am not surprised even though I am delighted that they turned out in their numbers today to share with me in the joy of this occasion.

“What this means fundamentally is that there is no difference politically between me and them and they still regard me as one of their leaders and I still regard them as my associates,’’ he said.

The minister reiterated that notwithstanding the disagreement in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, his supporters and allies were still loyal to him and his structure politically remained intact.

“My political structure cannot be torpedoed because of disagreement.

“That is the essence of political structure: when you are strong enough to weather the storm that will necessarily come up, especially when it is time to vie for political offices,’’ he said.

Speaking on the marriage, the minister said the Yoruba culture revered the traditional rites as the most important marriages.

It is the ceremony where the family members of the bride and the groom

PoliticsWhy Peter Obi And Kwankwaso Coalition Collapsed - Okupe, Umeh by ProfesawFred(op): 4:25am On Jul 06, 2022
Former National Chairma of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Victor Umeh, said yesterday that the coalition talks between the Labour Party, LP, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, ended on June's 15.

Umeh, who is vying for a senatorial seat on the platform of LP, said the talks “collapsed completely” because both parties could not agree on who will be the presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Umeh faulted the presidential candidate of NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for giving the impression that the talks between both parties were still in progress.

Umeh, who disclosed that the Labour Party was no longer interested in “every other discussion” with the NNPP, said: “We are surprised at the recent media blaze by the members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to continuously suggest that they were locked in a negotiation with the Labour Party to have a partnership or arrangement where the two parties will work together in 2023.

“We are surprised to continuously see this, we had this discussion precisely on June 15, more than three weeks ago. What necessitated the meeting was that the NNPP and LP working together will give a better opportunity for the presidential election to be won. And the two parties set up two teams.

“Myself, Julius Aboreh, the Labour Party chairman who led our team; Doyin Okupe went to that discussion on behalf of the Labour Party; while the NNPP put forward Buba Galadima, Abdullahi Baffa, former executive secretary of TETFUND, and Ladipo Johnson.

“It was a three-man team; we met for long hours, adjourned and we came back. When it became obvious that it had become a dialogue between a deaf and dumb person, we called off the negotiation.[b]

[b]LP may pick Senator Baba Ahmed as Obi’s running mate

Also, the Labour Party temporary Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Doyin Okupe, said the LP/NNPP alliance talks had collapsed.

Speaking on Channels Television Politics Today programme, yesterday, Okupe said the merger failed because Kwankwaso of the NNPP insisted on being the presidential flagbearer, even when a Northern Muslim of same North-West geo-political zone, President Muhammadu Buhari, is about to complete eight years in office.

He said during coalition talks he had asked the NNPP leadership if it was fair to field Kwankwaso, a northerner, of which the NNPP leadership said there was nothing wrong with that.

Okupe revealed that LP is now looking at young running mate of northern extraction.

Vanguard gathered yesterday that Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, 46, from Kaduna State may be picked as Obi’s running mate.

Senator Ahmed, who has four degrees including a PhD was a member of the House of Representatives (2003 and 2007), and was elected Senator (Kaduna North) in 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC. He is the founder and pro-Chancellor of Baze University.

Music/RadioChristy Essien Igbokwe's Grand Daughter Remixes Hit Song ' Seun rere' by ProfesawFred(op): 2:51am On Jul 03, 2022
The spirit of the late legendary singer, Christy Essien Igbokwe has been evoked in the remix of her evergreen song ‘Seun Rere’ by none other than her granddaughter Christiana Igbokwe. The fast-rising 9-year-old Nigerian-American singer released the new song on June 30,2022. Christiana’s captivating, high-energy vocals transport audiences into a bottomless barrel of musical ear candy, with her creativity, and traditional music-making. She is definitely gearing up to fill the shoes of the Lady of Songs and beyond.

The song ‘Séun Réré’ sheds more light on the African conversation between mother and child, a mother who advises her child to listen to her words, so that all will be well with him/her. Séun Réré also gives an insight into how one-sided traditional African parenting is. It echoes the idea that when a child is good, the African culture showers praises on the father but if the child goes down a different path, the blame lies on the mother. The song comes at a time when parents need this message the most, that our children are like mirrors, reflecting images of what happens around them, we must be good role models to them.

Foreign AffairsBullet That Killed Popular Al-jazeera Journalist"Abu Akleh" Has Been Sent To USA by ProfesawFred(op): 2:38am On Jul 03, 2022
The Palestinian Authority says it has given U.S. officials the bullet that killed prominent Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and Israeli officials had no immediate comment.

Despite several outside investigations suggesting the Israeli army killed her, Israel has said it can't determine the facts until Palestinians submit the bullet for a joint forensic investigation, and the U.S. has been calling on Palestinians and Israelis to share evidence.

After refusing to hand over the bullet to Israel, the Palestinian Public Prosecutor says his office has given the bullet to U.S. officials but refuses to give it to Israeli officials.

A Palestinian official speaking on condition of anonymity told NPR the sharing of the bullet was agreed upon in a phone call Thursday between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Abu Akleh's family tells NPR they are concerned and alarmed by the news of the bullet being shared with U.S. officials.

They had been calling for a U.S.-led investigation, but now they say no officials have updated them about who will be examining the bullet, and they have doubts the process will lead to accountability.

PoliticsTinubu Denies Ever Meeting Wike In France by ProfesawFred(op): 5:55am On Jul 02, 2022
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday spurned media reports suggesting that he met with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in France as part of consultations ahead of the 2023 general polls.
Tinubu who is said to be in France for a continuation of high-level engagements with stakeholders, refuted the claim by a chieftain of the APC and aide to Lagos State governor, Joe Igbokwe, that he had a meeting with Wike in that country.
In a statement issued last night by his media office, Tinubu said even though he holds Governor Wike in high esteem, such a meeting never took place.

The statement signed by Tunde Rahman titled, “Asiwaju Tinubu’s supposed meeting with Governor Wike in France is Fake News,” noted: “We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the chieftains of All Progressives Congress in Lagos State and media reports emanating from same about a supposed meeting in France between APC Presidential Standard-bearer, Asiwaju

PoliticsCourt Affirms Adagunodo As Osun PDP Chairman by ProfesawFred(op): 4:40am On Feb 17, 2022
An Osun State High Court, sitting in Ile-Ife, on Wednesday, refused to set aside his November 22, 2021 judgement which affirmed Soji Adagunodo, as the chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state.

The court in his judgement had held that the preservative order of an Ikirun High Court which declared Adagunodo as the chairman of the party was not appealed against, thus still subsists.

But counsel for the PDP, Hashim Abioye said his client would appeal the judgement, saying the decision of the court would not affect ward Congress of the party slated for Thursday.

But the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party had approached the court with an application, asking that the court set aside its decision.

But while ruling on the application on Wednesday, Justice A. Aderibigbe declined the application and refused to set aside its ruling.

Reacting to the decision of the court, Edmund Biriomoni, who represented Adagunodo in the matter said, the implication of the verdict is that the appointment of Wale Ojo, who was appointed acting chairman after Adagunodo had been elected South-West PDP chairman, was valid.

Three days into the one-month warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government said it was surprised that the lecturers took the action.

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, expressed the government’s position on the matter yesterday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the presidential villa, Abuja

According to him, it is not the federal government’s fault if there has been no agreement after several negotiations between both parties.

He said, “ASUU, unfortunately, they have gone on strike and I am looking for them because all the issues are being addressed.

“The last thing that happened was that our committee looked at their demands but renegotiations are going on. They submitted a draft agreement which the ministry is looking at. A committee is looking at it. Immediately it finishes, the government is meant to announce what it had accepted. Then suddenly, I heard them going on strike,” he said.

On allegations by the union of his absence from meetings, Adamu said, “ASUU will never say that. I always call the meetings myself. The meetings I didn’t attend were those that happened when I was in hospital in Germany. We want a peaceful resolution. The federal government is ready to meet them on all issues they have raised and if there are so many meetings and the gap is not closing, then I think it’s not the fault of the government.

“There is a solution to this. The negotiations are the solutions and that is why I have said that I am surprised that ASUU has gone on strike,” he said.

Nairaland GeneralMeet The World's Strongest Woman "Nataliya Kuznetsova" by ProfesawFred(op):
The Russian powerhouse is reportedly the heaviest known female bodybuilder.

Nataliya (or Natalia) Kuznetsova (née Trukhina) (born July 1, 1991) is a Russian professional female bodybuilder who holds the world armlifting, bench press, and deadlift titles, as well as the European bench press and deadlift titles.

Nataliya Kuznetsova isn’t your average female bodybuilder. The Russian lifter sports proportions that most female—and even male—bodybuilders could only dream of, and it’s no surprise that she’s masses nearly half a million followers on the ‘Gram. Multiple sources call her the heaviest known professional female bodybuilder, and we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s true.
According to one of her posts, she stands at 5’7″ and weighs in at over 220 pounds in the off season. By the look of it, none of those pounds are fat.

Kuznetsova has been training for around 15 years, and she earned her IFBB Pro League card at the 2018 Romania Muscle Fest Pro Qualifier last November. She’s also broken world deadlift, bench press, and armlifting records, according to her Instagram profile. Unsurprisingly, fans can’t help but speculate about whether she’ll make an appearance at the 2020 Ms. Olympia (the first Ms. Olympia competition since 2014, when Iris Kyle won her 10th overall title). Kuznetsova says she doesn’t plan on competing, according to FitnessVolt.com, but she definitely looks like she could be ready to take the stage at a moment’s notice.

Future competitions aside, Kuznetsova is set to guest pose at Romania Muscle Fest Pro in November. We’re sure video of her routine will surface afterward, but in the meantime, check out some of her most impressive posts on Instagram.

An ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Accra, Ghana, to review the political situations in Guinea and Mali, has decided to maintain the sanctions imposed on Guinea and impose similar ones against the Mali Transitional Government.

The communique at the end of the 3rd Extraordinary Summit on Guinea and Mali yesterday attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN on behalf of the President, stated that “the authority decides to uphold the suspension of the Republic of Guinea from all ECOWAS governing bodies as well as the travel ban and freeze on financial assets imposed on the members of the CNRD and their family members until constitutional order is restored,” in the country.

Regarding Mali, the ECOWAS leaders at a meeting presided over by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana and chair of the regional bloc, the leaders resolved that in “conformity with the decision taken on 16th September 2021, the authority decides to impose sanctions with immediate effect against individuals and groups who have been identified, including the entire transition authorities and the other transition institutions.

“These sanctions will also be imposed on the members of their families. The sanctions include a travel ban and a freeze on their financial assets. It further instructs the President of the Commission to consider and propose additional sanctions at its next Ordinary Session on 12th December 2021, should the situation persist.”

The summit was attended by leaders from 13 countries then called “on the African Union, the United Nations, and the bilateral and other multilateral partners to endorse and support the implementation of these sanctions.”

At the end of the summit, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in a statement released by his media aide, Laolu Akande, said African countries have gone far beyond military coup as a means of changing political actors and that coups are unacceptable.

He added that ECOWAS Heads of State and Government will continue to prevail on the military juntas in Guinea and Mali to return their countries to democratic rule.
