Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed on Wednesday that he was on his way to the United States to meet President Joe Biden. The trip will be his first foreign trip since Russia invaded Ukraine in February. Zelensky will address Congress and hold a number of meetings in the US, according to BBC. The White House has also confirmed the trip and said it will supply Ukraine with a Patriot missile battery, to increase the country’s air defence capability. “On my way to the US to strengthen resilience and defence capabilities of Ukraine,” he wrote on Twitter. Zelensky regularly hosts foreign leaders in the capital, Kyiv, and has visited troops around Ukraine. The Ukrainian president has also spoken frequently to world leaders over the telephone and by video call – often from his office in Kyiv. However, his surprise visit to a foreign country marks a first since the war began and also signals the importance of Ukraine’s relationship with the US, which has played a leading role in providing military support. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says his political structure in Kwara remains intact and cannot be successfully attacked and sunk. The minister said this in his hometown Oro near Ilorin at the traditional marriage of his grand daughter, Dr Toyosi to an Engineer, Gbolahan Sambo. Recall that the marriage which took place in the minister’s compound was attended by his political allies and supporters who thronged the venue in their hundreds. Reacting to a question from newsmen on the presence of the political associates and supporters in their numbers at the ceremony, Mohammed said he had never lost touch with them. “I am glad you noticed that I have here today the same people I have been working with in the last 20 years politically in Kwara. “Though they tried to pluck me away from them, we interact regularly and we have almost become a family. “I am not surprised even though I am delighted that they turned out in their numbers today to share with me in the joy of this occasion. “What this means fundamentally is that there is no difference politically between me and them and they still regard me as one of their leaders and I still regard them as my associates,’’ he said. The minister reiterated that notwithstanding the disagreement in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, his supporters and allies were still loyal to him and his structure politically remained intact. “My political structure cannot be torpedoed because of disagreement. “That is the essence of political structure: when you are strong enough to weather the storm that will necessarily come up, especially when it is time to vie for political offices,’’ he said. Speaking on the marriage, the minister said the Yoruba culture revered the traditional rites as the most important marriages. The spirit of the late legendary singer, Christy Essien Igbokwe has been evoked in the remix of her evergreen song ‘Seun Rere’ by none other than her granddaughter Christiana Igbokwe. The fast-rising 9-year-old Nigerian-American singer released the new song on June 30,2022. Christiana’s captivating, high-energy vocals transport audiences into a bottomless barrel of musical ear candy, with her creativity, and traditional music-making. She is definitely gearing up to fill the shoes of the Lady of Songs and beyond. The song ‘Séun Réré’ sheds more light on the African conversation between mother and child, a mother who advises her child to listen to her words, so that all will be well with him/her. Séun Réré also gives an insight into how one-sided traditional African parenting is. It echoes the idea that when a child is good, the African culture showers praises on the father but if the child goes down a different path, the blame lies on the mother. The song comes at a time when parents need this message the most, that our children are like mirrors, reflecting images of what happens around them, we must be good role models to them. The Palestinian Authority says it has given U.S. officials the bullet that killed prominent Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem and Israeli officials had no immediate comment. Despite several outside investigations suggesting the Israeli army killed her, Israel has said it can't determine the facts until Palestinians submit the bullet for a joint forensic investigation, and the U.S. has been calling on Palestinians and Israelis to share evidence. After refusing to hand over the bullet to Israel, the Palestinian Public Prosecutor says his office has given the bullet to U.S. officials but refuses to give it to Israeli officials. A Palestinian official speaking on condition of anonymity told NPR the sharing of the bullet was agreed upon in a phone call Thursday between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Abu Akleh's family tells NPR they are concerned and alarmed by the news of the bullet being shared with U.S. officials. They had been calling for a U.S.-led investigation, but now they say no officials have updated them about who will be examining the bullet, and they have doubts the process will lead to accountability. Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, yesterday spurned media reports suggesting that he met with Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in France as part of consultations ahead of the 2023 general polls. Tinubu who is said to be in France for a continuation of high-level engagements with stakeholders, refuted the claim by a chieftain of the APC and aide to Lagos State governor, Joe Igbokwe, that he had a meeting with Wike in that country. In a statement issued last night by his media office, Tinubu said even though he holds Governor Wike in high esteem, such a meeting never took place. The statement signed by Tunde Rahman titled, “Asiwaju Tinubu’s supposed meeting with Governor Wike in France is Fake News,” noted: “We have seen a viral social media post made by one of the chieftains of All Progressives Congress in Lagos State and media reports emanating from same about a supposed meeting in France between APC Presidential Standard-bearer, Asiwaju Source: https://leadership.ng/tinubu-denies-meeting-wike-in-france-as-rivers-governor-snubs-atikus-emissary/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk8vgyCeIfA |

Three days into the one-month warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government said it was surprised that the lecturers took the action. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, expressed the government’s position on the matter yesterday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the presidential villa, Abuja. Three days into the one-month warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the federal government said it was surprised that the lecturers took the action. The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, expressed the government’s position on the matter yesterday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the presidential villa, Abuja According to him, it is not the federal government’s fault if there has been no agreement after several negotiations between both parties. He said, “ASUU, unfortunately, they have gone on strike and I am looking for them because all the issues are being addressed. “The last thing that happened was that our committee looked at their demands but renegotiations are going on. They submitted a draft agreement which the ministry is looking at. A committee is looking at it. Immediately it finishes, the government is meant to announce what it had accepted. Then suddenly, I heard them going on strike,” he said. On allegations by the union of his absence from meetings, Adamu said, “ASUU will never say that. I always call the meetings myself. The meetings I didn’t attend were those that happened when I was in hospital in Germany. We want a peaceful resolution. The federal government is ready to meet them on all issues they have raised and if there are so many meetings and the gap is not closing, then I think it’s not the fault of the government. “There is a solution to this. The negotiations are the solutions and that is why I have said that I am surprised that ASUU has gone on strike,” he said. According to him, it is not the federal government’s fault if there has been no agreement after several negotiations between both parties. He said, “ASUU, unfortunately, they have gone on strike and I am looking for them because all the issues are being addressed. https://www.facebook.com/100063705831781/posts/344323647701160/?app=fbl

The Russian powerhouse is reportedly the heaviest known female bodybuilder. Nataliya (or Natalia) Kuznetsova (née Trukhina) (born July 1, 1991) is a Russian professional female bodybuilder who holds the world armlifting, bench press, and deadlift titles, as well as the European bench press and deadlift titles. Nataliya Kuznetsova isn’t your average female bodybuilder. The Russian lifter sports proportions that most female—and even male—bodybuilders could only dream of, and it’s no surprise that she’s masses nearly half a million followers on the ‘Gram. Multiple sources call her the heaviest known professional female bodybuilder, and we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s true. According to one of her posts, she stands at 5’7″ and weighs in at over 220 pounds in the off season. By the look of it, none of those pounds are fat. Kuznetsova has been training for around 15 years, and she earned her IFBB Pro League card at the 2018 Romania Muscle Fest Pro Qualifier last November. She’s also broken world deadlift, bench press, and armlifting records, according to her Instagram profile. Unsurprisingly, fans can’t help but speculate about whether she’ll make an appearance at the 2020 Ms. Olympia (the first Ms. Olympia competition since 2014, when Iris Kyle won her 10th overall title). Kuznetsova says she doesn’t plan on competing, according to FitnessVolt.com, but she definitely looks like she could be ready to take the stage at a moment’s notice. Future competitions aside, Kuznetsova is set to guest pose at Romania Muscle Fest Pro in November. We’re sure video of her routine will surface afterward, but in the meantime, check out some of her most impressive posts on Instagram. Video source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a847Eok15HM

An ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government held in Accra, Ghana, to review the political situations in Guinea and Mali, has decided to maintain the sanctions imposed on Guinea and impose similar ones against the Mali Transitional Government. The communique at the end of the 3rd Extraordinary Summit on Guinea and Mali yesterday attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN on behalf of the President, stated that “the authority decides to uphold the suspension of the Republic of Guinea from all ECOWAS governing bodies as well as the travel ban and freeze on financial assets imposed on the members of the CNRD and their family members until constitutional order is restored,” in the country. Regarding Mali, the ECOWAS leaders at a meeting presided over by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana and chair of the regional bloc, the leaders resolved that in “conformity with the decision taken on 16th September 2021, the authority decides to impose sanctions with immediate effect against individuals and groups who have been identified, including the entire transition authorities and the other transition institutions. “These sanctions will also be imposed on the members of their families. The sanctions include a travel ban and a freeze on their financial assets. It further instructs the President of the Commission to consider and propose additional sanctions at its next Ordinary Session on 12th December 2021, should the situation persist.” The summit was attended by leaders from 13 countries then called “on the African Union, the United Nations, and the bilateral and other multilateral partners to endorse and support the implementation of these sanctions.” At the end of the summit, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in a statement released by his media aide, Laolu Akande, said African countries have gone far beyond military coup as a means of changing political actors and that coups are unacceptable. He added that ECOWAS Heads of State and Government will continue to prevail on the military juntas in Guinea and Mali to return their countries to democratic rule.
