There are two answers: where it is now, and there was none.

The historic Jewish homeland is reasonably well described: the areas of the modern State of Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, plus parts of Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon were all at one point part of the ancient Jewish kingdoms.

However, for two thousand years - since Rome sacked the last Jewish kingdom - the Jewish homeland was controlled by foreign powers. No kingdom or state existed to be that homeland, but it wasn’t anywhere else, either. Jews still regarded that Kingdom of Israel - and Jerusalem in particular - as the Jewish homeland.

Before 1948, there was no Jewish nation-state in that homeland. Until the Ottoman Empire fell, it was impossible for there to be one. The Jewish homeland founded in the ashes of that empire, by Britain by order of the League of Nations, was not quite the same as any of those ancient kingdoms. One of the ways it was different is that it was much smaller - many of the biblical events in Israel happened in Judea and Samaria, for example - but even then, it was something.

Many were living in the British Palestinian Mandate. Others were living in other Arab countries.

A basic quick bit of history. Both India and Palestine were under British mandate until 1947. Britain wanted out of both and to let the people living there control their own destinies.

Muslims within India (a Hindu country) had begged, pleaded, murdered, terrorized, rioted, protested, picketed and did all sorts towards the Hindus aiming to pressure Britain and the UN to give them their own country out of India. All on the basis that Muslims cannot live alongside Hindus so you must solve this by partitioning off Muslims away from Hindus. Therefore, in August 1947 the UN split India into two partitions: Pakistan and India

Now all because Muslims had been saying that the only possible solution to the “Islam cannot live with non-Muslims” problem is to partition Muslims away from non-Muslims.

The UN and Britain wanted to do the exact same partition idea for Palestine. And have a Jewish partition and a Muslim partition. They therefore proposed this idea at a UN meeting in November 1947.

24 hours after this was suggested inside the UN. All the Muslims in Palestine started a civil war with the Jews intending to carry out a total holocaust on them all. As in just wiping out every last Jew in Palestine.

Six months later to try and stop this civil war. The Jewish partition was recognised as its own county of Israel in May 1948. As a result of this. All the major arab countries went to war with Israel to murder every last Jew.

When this war started by the Muslims intent on killing every last Jew the whole world over. All the the Jews living in these Arab countes were forced to flee for their lives and seek protection inside Israel.

I say this as Muslims make the biggest deal imaginable saying that many Jews moved from other Arab countries into Israel in 1948. Trying to suggest they stole Muslim houses by doing it. But that is only because that Muslim country had started a war with Jews intent on carrying out a worldwide holocaust of every last Jew so those Jews were forced to move out of their homes in Egypt, Jordan etc into Israel for protection.

If Muslims themselves say to the UN we Muslims cannot live with other religions so you must partition us away from non-Muslims to keep the peace. Doing this to try and get Pakistan created. They cannot then act shocked and play the victim when the same UN does exactly what the Muslims demanded and split them away from Jews too.

Maybe we are going the wrong direction here. Maybe Jesus did not intend to say that “we have enough swords.” Or, if he did, perhaps there is a strong tinge of sarcasm here or perhaps frustration. Maybe Jesus means something like “Enough of that; no more sword talk” (The Message). Maybe Jesus intends the same meaning that Yahweh had when he said to Moses, “That is enough,” the matter is closed…discussion over (Deut. 3:26).

I feel like that with my teenagers sometimes. As we become more involved in a discussion they miss my meaning or they don’t have the maturity or experience to catch the point. And so I say something like, “discussion over…this is fruitless…let’s move on.”

So, perhaps Jesus was not really talking about swords at all. Perhaps he was using the “sword” to make a larger point. When the disciples took the exhortation to sell their cloaks and buy swords literally, Jesus says, “Enough of that; you guys don’t get it, do you?”

Jesus was contrasting the hospitality of their Galilean ministry with the hostility of their present circumstances. While in Galilee they could depend on the warm reception of the villages, here in Judea—indeed, in the next few moments—the disciples will encounter hostility. The situation has changed. Whereas before they needed neither purse nor sandals, now they need a sword instead of a cloak (a necessity for staying warm at night). The urgency of the contrast is startling. They will need a sword more than they need warmth. The point is not that the disciples need to literally secure a sword, but they need to realize the charged and changed atmosphere in which they now move.
