According to Epilepsy Foundation, about 65million of the world's population have Seizure disorders Epilepsy is a term that encompasses recurring seizures. Seizures can be different, but all of them include abnormal electrical activity in the brain. This electrical activity changes body movements. Groups of cells and neurons in the brain produce impulses that control body movements, thoughts and sensations. When these impulses occur excessively, a seizure is produced. When someone has recurring seizures, more than likely they will have the same type of seizure each time. Seizures are stereotypic. An epilepsy diagnosis comes when a person has had two seizures that are unrelated to any other condition (UnityPoint Health). I present 12 facts you need to know about epilepsy 1. There are several kinds of seizures. Some seizures are hardly noticeable while others are very dramatic. Seizure symptoms can consist of rapid blinking or simply staring out into space. Others symptoms might make someone appear very confused for a few minutes. Still, others might lose consciousness, fall to the ground and have jerky muscle contractions for a few minutes, followed by confusion. 2. People without epilepsy can have seizures. Things like high fevers, low blood sugar, alcohol or drug withdrawal, or recently having a concussion can also cause seizures. 3. Epilepsy can be caused by several things. Almost two-thirds of people with epilepsy do not have a specific underlying cause. They are either labeled as cryptogenic, which means they don’t have any known cause, or as idiopathic, which means that there is no neurological disorder but the symptoms are consistent with some epileptic syndromes. Several other factors can cause epilepsy: Oxygen deprivation during childbirth Brain infections like meningitis, encephalitis and cysticercosis Traumatic brain or head injuries Strokes Neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s Disease Brain tumors Genetic disorders 4. Epilepsy is not contagious. Contacts with saliva or other body fluids of an epileptic can not give you Epilepsy. You simply can't catch Epilepsy from another person 5. You should NEVER force something into the mouth of someone having a seizure. Absolutely not! Forcing something into the mouth of someone having a seizure is a good way to chip teeth, cut gums, or even break someone's jaw. The correct first aid is simple. Just gently roll the person on one side, support their head, protect from injury, and make sure their breathing is okay. 6. DON'T restrain someone having a seizure. Most seizures end in seconds or a few minutes and will end on their own. You can protect the person from injury by following simple first aid steps. 7. ANYONE can develop epilepsy. Seizures start for the first time in people over age 65 almost as often as it does in children. Seizures in the elderly are often the after effect of other health problems like stroke and heart disease. 8. Most people with epilepsy CAN DO the same things that people without epilepsy can do. However, some people with frequent seizures may not be able to work, drive, or may have problems in other parts of their life. But everyone needs to learn how to cope with stress! 9.Even with today's medication, epilepsy CANNOT be cured. Epilepsy is a chronic medical problem that for many people can be successfully treated. Unfortunately, treatment doesn't work for everyone. 10. Epilepsy is NOT rare. 11. What happens in a seizure may look different from one person to another. However, seizures are usually stereotypic, which means the same things or behaviors tend to occur in a person each time they have a seizure. The seizure behavior may be inappropriate for the time and place, but it is unlikely to cause harm to anyone. 12. The tongue CAN NOT be swallowed during a Seizure episode and clenched teeth DO NOT mean death cc Seun, lalasticlala, Dominique, sissy3 Move to front page please |
tagtaye:Drugs in that category aren't what you can just walk into any store and buy. Most of them sedate and if misused, the person can sleep to the other side. Point of reference is that, let her see a doctor who will assess and prescribe accordingly. There are types for peculiarity of cases' sake. The best help you can provide for her is to take her to a good hospital for assessments and care. My regards of speedy healing to her |

spartacus11:If stating facts amounts to being hacked, you're right. I have had to gift phones to few people in recent times. It was only one of them I gave xiaomi. Others appreciated Tecno more which doesn't mean it was better but that's what they "Know" and already admire in people's hands over time. Be persistent with falsehood, people will take it for truth, it's psychology. It was a bonus for me of course... I spent lesser ![]() An average Nigerian phone user will go to phone shop to buy "the type of phone their neighbour uses" or "any other one within their pocket size". There is no one that won't want to enjoy flaship experience na, just sell them at budget prices and see ![]() Check these instances, a man saw Oneplus 6 on me. He obviously loved it. He asked for the price as he was willing to buy. I didn't want to sound 'wasteful', I told him 50k. He exclaimed! "It's for the rich. This my phone is good too, I can't spend that much on a mere phone" ![]() He uses Tecno K7. A fellow had seen Samsung note 8 on me and spent quite some minutes admiring it. He loved it, no doubt. He asked for the price as usual, I told him. He said "apart from the Spen, what else can it do that my phone can't do?". He uses one 2018 infinix. This is a well read "yoot" . Who can afford it but he just didn't feel it was worth it.I can go on and on. This is the case with most smartphone users in Nigeria/Africa that gave Transsion the dominating figure. |
henry007:Exactly my thoughts. I don't see the Go phone as a capable competitor for transsion's myriad of phones, gaskiya. Forget about the processor or build quality. Transsion's dominance of the continent's phone market share is courtesy of our economic realities and average psyche. I respect the founder of Transsion in that he has a brand for virtually each sub segment of the low social class which invariably forms the bulk of our population. Any brand that will challenge them will be as present, at least, as tecno/infinix/itel/ at the grassroots which will shoot retail price up. Any phone shop in Nigeria that doesn't have heavy display of Tecno/infinix/itel stickers is still playing. Infact, some of them can be taken for Tecno offices. If gionee couldnt do it ![]() The best segment Xiaomi could have targeted is the mid range segment. They could have targeted this segment and crush it. If apple can shine with its line of products. Transsion is not competing in the flagship segment sef. They know it's not for dem. Lol Their coming or not, flagship users aren't affected. I know lots of people that can't use something other than Oneplus. They don't need service centres or adverts to be fanboys. That's the interesting thing about this segment NB We're discussing market share and not product quality or value for money. The fact still remains that no N5 phone can be as good as a Xiaomi phone of N5 but this is Africa where what inform our decisions and thinking is beyond the obvious. Only those that sell phones can relate |
