It's your point about defending being a team effort while attacking just needs individual brilliance that I'm tackling. both require team efforts. go watch Messi score a solo goal and you'd see movements from his teammates is part of why he did that. if Suarez isn't making that blind run that drags a defender or two away, if Alba and Dani Alves aren't making byline runs that preoccupies the right and left side of the opponent's defense, if busquets stands like a doll or Xavi and Iniesta run back to their goal then Messi wouldn't be able to do it as he would simply be ganged upon by the opponent then get a free kick far from the opponent's goal if he's lucky. Attacking and defending require team efforts which is why they drill attacking movements in training, players don't just move around during attacks and get lucky, they train and know what to do when a particular teammate has the ball as opposed to another. they know that when Marcelo has the ball on the left side they need to prepare for a good cross and when Hazard does they need to expect a cross as last resort. When Robben is about to cut inside the striker needs to make a blind run that drags the CB's attention away from Robben so when Robben beats the right back he has the space to curl a shot but to the untrained eye Robben just scored on individual effort alone and if the defender refuses to track the striker then Robben would simply pass to the free striker once he's done cutting in.

Thinking a great goal is individual effort and a great tackle is a team effort is naïve
