Hi guys, This is my experience.

My mum's visit visa and biometric submitted at Abuja embassy on the November 1, 2018 (Paper application).

Received acknowledgement email on November 3, 2018.

Received application accepted/processing email on November 13, 2018.

Passport ready to pick up email on November 30, 2018.
5yrs visa issued

Credentials submited:
Mum's pension credentials and her Nigerian bank statement, my sister and brother birth certificate and dad's consent letter as family tie.
invitation letter from me with stamp (don't want to risk it).
our pay stubs, bank statement and house paper showing we are capable to take care of her expenses here.

I believe that paper route is the fastest and easiest. Goodluck to everyone still waiting, it is well

Hmmmmmm. "...got a call from the conference planner about payment..." that is a red flag comrade. Be sure that these organizers are genuinely promoting research and not some money/visa mills that are already known to and flagged by the embassy. Also be sure of their refund policy as well. All the best

If the organizers are willing to issue you conference invitations letters without payment, you may not make payment.
You should make an accommodation booking though. Booking.com allows you to make accommodation booking without payment. I didn't submit flight booking with my most recent application and it was approved.

You may need yo pay for the conference and include the evidence of registration/conference invitation letter to the application to show evidence of registration/purpose of visit.

You need to also provide evidence of accommodation hence the hotel reservation. You can make hotel reservation and not necessarily make payment. Go online and book for hotel

You can also do flight reservation and not make paymenthe. Then you submit all these documents in ur application.
