Piles also known as haemorrhoid are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum and the anus that cause discomfort and bleeding. It is an unpleasant and uncomfortable medical condition that is painful and itchy.

Piles are caused by increased pressure in the veins of the anus due to straining when trying to have a bowel movement or any activities causing strain such as heavy lifting. As pressure increases blood pool in the veins increases and this causes them to swell hence stretching the sorouding tissues.

Uterine fibroids are non cancerous tumor of the uterus known as uterine leiomyoma or uterine polyps. It is common among child bearing age women. It develop within the muscles of the uterine or very rarely from within the cervix. Fibroids tumors varies in sizes from small seedlings to many inches in diameter. When fibroids become very large they make the abdomen to enlarge making a woman to appear pregnant.

Although many women have smooth pregnancy despite having fibroids. Around 10 to 30% of women with fibroids develop pregnancy related complications. Report shows that uterine fibroids may be responsible for the fertility, conception and pregnancy problems.

The most serious complications that uterine fibroids can cause with a pregnancy is when placenta grows near the surface of a uterine fibroids. This may cause the baby to be deprived of vital nutrients which might make the baby to be lower birth than normal. In more severe cases, the presence of uterine fibroids may cause amniotic sap to rupture too early. Fibroids are known to be able to block the birth canal that can complicate the process of labour and delivery. Fibroids may interfere with ovum implantation, compressing the fallopian tubes and preventing conception, anovulatory cycles, abnormal uterine blood flow hindering movement of sperm to ova. Sometimes fibroids can raise the risk of miscarriage, still births, abnormal fetal position, pre term labor. If the fibroids grow exceptionally fast during a pregnancy, this can result in red degeneration of which its symptoms include:
✓ Severe pain.
✓ Vomiting.
✓ Vaginal bleeding.
✓ Nausea.
✓ Fever.

However, a woman may feel this pain over the entire area where the fibroids are located. The pain may radiate down the woman entire back.
