Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has revealed why some former governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, never wanted him to remain as the national chairman of the ruling party.

Oshiomhole disclosed that some former APC governors believed that if he remained as national chairman, he would impose President Bola Tinubu on the party as its presidential candidate in 2023.

He noted that his tenure as APC national chairman was defined by the defence of party rules and the conduct of free and fair primaries.
Speaking while featuring News Central’s 60 Minutes with Mr Kay,

Oshiomhole said: “People wanted me to adopt their style and I can’t borrow your style, I’m a labour man and I come from the real democratic foundation where its not about your strength but numbers.

“So we have some governors who question my right as national chairman to vote the party on the basis of its constitution. For example, the then governor of Ogun State won’t comply with the then rules of the National Working Committee because he was very close to the late former President Buhari and because of that he was above the law.

“We conducted primaries but he chose to do his own, even though Supreme Court has said there is only one registered political parties, states and organization are no more. And when he decided to conduct his own primaries we refused to recognize it, we upheld the result of the one we conducted that produced Dapo Abiodun as governor.

“He then sponsored governorship and House of Assembly in another political party called APM, Amosun imposed evil men and once we had the evidence that he was campaigning against the party, the NWC that I chaired in line with the party constitution, gave him a query, he didn’t answer and we suspended him.

“Some of the governors told me to my face that they had no problem with me because I have no problem with them but they believe that if I remain as chairman, I would impose Bola Tinubu who was the then leader of the party as presidential candidate on APC.

I have told people that what you become in life is not so much of what you pray for, it’s what God has willed for you.”

Ten players with Jamaican side Mount Pleasant have failed to obtain US entry visas for the club's CONCACAF Champions Cup clash against Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday, club officials have confirmed. Mount Pleasant traveled to Los Angeles on Sunday with an 18-man squad which included five academy players after the team's roster was decimated by visa problems.

Seven members of the Mount Pleasant squad are Haitian nationals, and the issue brings into sharp focus one of the concerns surrounding this year's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Haiti is one of 19 countries targeted by US President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, with Haitian nationals' entry to the US suspended under a presidential order issued last June.

Although athletes taking part in major sporting events such as the World Cup and Olympics are exempt from the ban, it was not clear if CONCACAF's regional club tournament was included amongst those exceptions.

Mount Pleasant's sporting director Paul Christie said the visa stumbling block would leave Mount Pleasant at a competitive disadvantage as they prepare to face the 2024 MLS Cup champions this week.

"We dont want to just show up for the game, we want to be able to compete, but we are not being given the opportunity to be at our best," Christie told the Jamaica Observer.

Christie said Mount Pleasant "had not been given the opportunity to field our best starting 11."

US media reports have said CONCACAF, the regional body for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, had been attempting to resolve the issues.

A CONCACAF spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

It means Mount Pleasant head coach Theodore Whitmore will need to field a makeshift line-up on Wednesday drawn from a team that includes five members of Jamaica's under-20 team.

The Nigerian Army has marched soldiers into a newly constructed accommodation block at Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna State, towards improving troops’ welfare.

The ceremony, which took place on Friday, was organised by the 1 Division Nigerian Army. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project was funded by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, in line with his command philosophy and the “Soldier First Culture."

The command philosophy prioritises the welfare of personnel as a key factor for operational efficiency. The GOC 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1, Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.- Gen. Abubakar Wase was represented at the event by the Commanding Officer, Administration Battalion, 1 Division Garrison, Lt.-Col. R.O. Ejoor.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Wase stressed the need for soldiers to maintain a strong maintenance culture to preserve the newly constructed facility.

He warned personnel against illegal electricity connections or any activity that could damage the state-of-the-art accommodation, stressing that defaulters would be sanctioned.

Wase, while expressing appreciation to the COAS for funding the project, said such infrastructural development was critical to sustaining the fighting efficiency and psychological readiness of troops deployed to various theatres of operation across the country.

NAN reports that the event concluded with the formal presentation of keys to the soldiers, marking their official transition into the new accommodation.

The Nigerian Army has announced that troops under Operation Eastern Sanity rescued 12 kidnapped victims and arrested two suspects during a security operation in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

In a statement on Saturday shared via the Army’s official account, the service said the rescue was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Nigerian Army following a distress call about the abduction of several residents in the community.

According to the statement, the operation took place on Friday, March 6, 2026, after security operatives received information that suspected kidnappers had taken multiple victims to a nearby location.

“Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Operation EASTERN SANITY have recorded another operational success with the rescue of 12 kidnapped victims in Ette Community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State,” the Army said.

It explained that the troops immediately mobilised in collaboration with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch after receiving the distress call.

“Responding swiftly and with precision, the troops immediately mobilised in conjunction with police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch, advancing to the suspected area where the victims were believed to have been taken,” the statement added.

The Army said that upon arriving at the suspected location, the troops launched aggressive search and fighting patrols across the area to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.

“Overwhelmed by the rapid response and superior combat readiness of the troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled the scene,” the statement said.

It further noted that the troops pursued the fleeing suspects while securing the area, eventually rescuing all the victims without harm.

“During the exploitation of the location, all the 12 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unharmed,” the Army stated.

According to the statement, two suspects believed to be linked to the kidnapping were arrested during the operation and are currently being interrogated to help security agencies track down other members of the criminal gang.

Meanwhile, the Army said troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified patrols and surveillance across the area to maintain security and reassure residents.

“The successful rescue further demonstrates the troops’ sustained operational pressure and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property while restoring lasting security and public confidence across communities in the region,” the statement added.

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has accepted his ambassadorial posting as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Omokri, in a statement on Friday, appreciated President Bola Tinubu for the posting, describing the Nigerian leader as the most Christlike individual, with the capacity to forgive and forbear.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, disclosed that while former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, was posted to Germany, ex-presidential aide, Reno Omokri, was posted to Mexico.

Reacting, Omokri appreciated the President and promised total loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and to President Tinubu.

"I sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for my ambassadorial posting. This is a man with a heart of gold, and as I have previously said, the President is a most Christlike individual, with the capacity to forgive and forbear.
