Happy new year, this thread have been quiet for a while,i have been so busy working on my kerosene lantern incubator and we just completed it late last month and we are test running it by loading straight away our fertilised local hen, local turkey and noiler eggs..hatching have began and i will update you with pictures pretty soon.

What a pity,a jungle with wild animals called Nigeria.. |
If one doesn't use an incubator then it wont ve economically feasible to run a native chicken etc farm...when one have a large amount of local hens on the farm all at once then brooding gets difficult and alot of things will be happening that will affect your yield....from my own practical experience an incubator is the way forward...one just pick there eggs and incubate them for chick production.... ![]() |
How much....can you deliver to lagos and how do i verify you arent a scam |
Its either land issue or a top player is trying to suppress this lady business...what a shameless country we are in.....a jungle called Nigeria with a lot of wild animals in it.. |
Scam...plot in farmland for 50k..i know Epe in and out and thats way above the roof Mr man |
This man needs to undergo a psychological test. |
What cheap school can one study an undergraduate course like business administration and which time of the year do they accept new entries? |
My own opinion is that most parents rush there kids to school starting from daycare because of time factor. They mostly look for where to dump there kids to enable them face there hussle abd this is the trend going on mostly in Lagos.. |
Time changes twice in europe yearly and happened on the 25th of October, as the time was reversed back by an hour....for days with longer night and during the summer with longer day the time will be forwarded. Its usual in Europe |
How do you sell your tilapia fingerlings,am located at Epe. Alphafarms: |
What is the thickness in microns of your tarpaulin |
I checked out some videos on youtube as i am trying to see how best i can run a kero lamp incubator without a fan,i was able to see some videos without fans,as i dont have constant electricity and i am not willing to spend any extra money on that to power the fan,so i have decided to build one without a fan, can you kindly connect me with the builder of your incubator,my location is Lagos. I bought a bag of chikun grower yesterday and my boy and i realised that the bags are not up to 25kg and whereas the price as gone up from 3000naira to 3170naira..i use wheat offal together with growers as feed and sometimes give them waterleaf and broken watermelons from the farm as a treat but at this point i am thinking of other type of feed to drive cost down.I am open to suggestions, someone said brewery waste but my challenge with that is that they come wet and drying them in the raining season might be a problem. NativeChicken: |
Nice birds,do you vaccinate them at this point or is there any organic treatment you use at there early stage.Am saying this because for other birds like broilers,layers,noilers..we buy in bulk and do lasota, gumboro fowl pox but in a case where chicks are hatched in clusters from time to time, how can this vaccination be carried out.i give mine lasota when giving to my other birds ... NativeChicken: |
Considering the fact that after drying them the weight will drop drastically and the rainy season will also cause challenges for drying.you should reconsider your price |
From my experience so far on this local chicken and noiler commercialisation,i have thought about it, that one cant rely only on the local hens for hatching of eggs, like for example in my farm,my noilers poduces far more fertilised eggs than the local hens and getting them broody at each point to hatch all the available eggs have been a challenge as the local hens dont go broody all at once. This as brought me to the conclusion that an incubator is needed despite having more than 40 local hens or else no commercialisation. Can you show us your battery setup,my incubator is 160watts and am in need of a setup that can un constantly to powe the incubator. Farouq94: |
Can the battery set up supply constant power for months/A year without Nepa. I am interested in this setup, can you send us pictures of your own setup? Farouq94: |
Do you synchronize the brooding or doing it randomly depending on availability of a broody hen.Can one force the local hens to get broody?

|
Wow thats nice,i guess u should have more than 50 laying hens....If one can get 800 fertile eggs per month and hatch them efficiently, then the productivity will start making sense and one can then produce commercially. In dealing with such amount of birds one will need a good pen setup as well..Nice work...From my own experience the noilers are not good at brooding, they do dissappoint alot half way through,so i prefer to use the local hens for hatching, they are more reliable.I hope to scale up to produce about 1000 chicks monthly then it will all make sense...

|
Are you using an incubator to hatch or local hens? And when you said one can get 200 fertile eggs weekly from 50 hens, are you refering to local hens or noiler hens? NativeChicken: |
Thats why one needs a proper setup,i guess you are free ranging. Lombrozo: |
In my own opinion,i realised the noiler males are very prolific,we are hatching our first generation of crosses and full noilers on the farm.my male noilers took about 6 to 7months to become a giant but for table size it will be 5 to 6 months. In regards the feeding,in my area its mostly cassava peels, brewery waste will be expensive due to transport.a friend was suggesting i do maize, millet, groundnut cake and etc but the cost of this materials seem to be on the high side as well, this breeders project wont make us any profit until we achieve a reasonable population and in my opinion it might take about 2 years.so keeping the cost of feed on the low is paramount.can anyone suggest cheap feed formulation,we are open to suggestions.. |
I do mine with noiler male and local females and noiler hens..i also experienced few noiler hen going broody. Now i am working on there numbers to make it commercially viable but it hasnt been easy considering cost of feed, medication, cost of building a coop for them etc...I use a mix of growers and wheat bran and sometimes add corn or millet to it..can anyone suggest cheaper altenatives.I will also like is to discuss the structure of there housing if one is doing it commercially |
This is one of the best thread so far on agric section here. Lets talk a bit about the prices one can sell matured locals hen and cock, local cross noiler hen and cocks...kindly indicate your states and prices...at least it will help farmers like us,who are in the production of locals and local cross noiler... |
Our pros in the house how do we do synchronise hatching, can we look into this... |
Love the thread, can you shed more light on the synchronized hatching and its processes. Quite true! Expectedly, virtually all day-old land mammals would require some form of heat either from their parents or as provided by the breeder because their skins are almost bare. For native DoCs, there are two cheap strategies to keep them warm in the first two weeks: (1) You could allow the DoCs stay with the mother hen within the first two-three weeks before weaning-off. (2) You could collect them as soon as hatched and keep in a warm place. I agree with you because I failed to add that I use both strategies, but prefer the latter. I usually collect almost all my native DoCs as soon as hatched. I use my laundry/Store room as brooding place. I keep them in cartons as mentioned earlier in the Store room whilst ensuring the window is closed. I stated earlier that you close the carton lids, but not completely - leaving them ajar. Corroborating your point, it's best to use a thermometer anyways. I have raised more than 50 native chicks this way. In fact, I did synchronised hatching, and raised 36 chicks, lost one. The rest 35 are doing great. I will try share the pictures later.
|
How much @ 4weeks |
Ambode started thos project |
Do you have dried one,if yes can you deliver to Epe Lagos? |
