They are not abnormal but they carry the sickled hemoglobin. You can't equate it to AA that have no sickled hemoglobin in both chains. As is same as AC they both have no clinical symptoms. But if AC should marry AS they are likely to have SC offspring which have same clinical symptoms as SS.
