A Harare woman was paid US$10 to enter into a marriage of convenience with a Nigerian who wanted to secure a residence permit, a senior immigration official said yesterday.

Assistant Regional Immigration officer Mr Francis Mabika said another Nigerian put a local woman on a US$80 monthly salary for entering into a marriage of convenience.

A third Nigerian man married two local women. Mr Mabika said the trio had since been arrested and still assisting police with investigations.

Silvester Nwaozuzu allegedly paid Erina Matindike, a Harare vendor-based at the courts, US$10 to enter into a marriage of convenience.

A Nigerian citizen, Moukhtari Ibrahim Aminu, has been arrested and detained for 10 days allegedly for “insulting” Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State on facebook. In addition, Mustapha Saad, a magistrate in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, has further remanded the accused in prison until February 7th 2011.

Moukhtar’s arrest stemmed from a message he posted on his page on January 18 2011, it not clear if he also posted the same on Governor Lamido’s facebook fan page, where curiously he is also an administrator.

A 35-year-old farmer, Mr Akeem Adeyemo, on Sunday, took to his heels, after a congratuatory message was passed to him that his wife, Ramota, had delivered quadruplets.

30-year-old Ramota gave birth to the quadruplets at a private hospital, Layo Model Hospital, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, through ceasarian operation…

Mrs Adeyemo, a petty trader and mother of four, was taken to the hospital on Saturday by her husband for the delivery of a baby, while a ceasarian operation performed on her on Sunday at the hospital produced the quadruplets.

When the father got the news of the quadruplets, two boys and two girls, he took to his heels and fled from the vicinity of the hospital.

According to one of his friends, who was present when the message was passed to him, Mr Adeyemo, instead of jubilating, disappeared from the vicinity of the hospital, on the pretex that he was going to bring some materials for his wife.

“Immediately the message of the birth was conveyed to the father of the quadruplets, he took to his heels, saying that God has made my cup to run over,” his friend said, adding that he said, “as a poor farmer, I already have four children and I don’t know where to get the money to take care of extra four childrren.”

Since Sunday, it was gathered that Mr Adeyemo neither showed up in his home or at the hospital where the quadruplets were delivered to see his wife, Dr Tunji Adenuga, a doctor at the hospital, said the woman and the children were in good condition of health.

Mrs Adeyemo, a petty trader, however, appealed to the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola and Mr Soji Ajayi and Evangelist Nathaniel Arabambi, both chairmen of Irewole and Ayedaade local government areas respectively, as well as their wives, to come to her aid.

She also appealed to philanthropists and well-to-do individuals to come to the aid of the family, to take care of the children.

Tragedy struck in Mandala, Suleja Local Government area of Niger State on Thursday, as five Igbo traders were murdered in cold blood by a yet unidentified gunmen who had since disappeared, shortly after the act was committed.

The incident occurred between the hours of 7.00 and 8.30 p.m., as a group of gunmen, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect were said to have invaded Madala market on the outskirt of Suleja, shooting dead the victims at very close range for an undisclosed reason.

Investigations by Saturday Tribune however revealed that the incident caused some ripples in Minna, the state capital in the early hours of Friday, especially among non-indigenes as they are of the opinion that prior to the killings, their assailants had allegedly ordered them to recite some portions of the Holy Quran, after which they were shot dead.

It was further gathered that no sooner than distress calls were allegedly made to the Divisional Police Officer, Suleja Police Station, by some concerned citizens, that a team of police detectives ,led by the DPO, swung into action and raced to the scene with a view to salvaging the situation by taking the victims to the hospital for treatment.

But before the police could get there , the five victims, four of whom were identified by their relations and friends as: Uche Nguweze, John Kalu,Sunday Emmanuel and Oliver Ezemah, as well as the yet unidentified fifth person were said to have given up the ghost while the hoodlums were said to have fled.

A police source informed Saturday Tribune that as of Friday morning, the authorities of the state police command, were yet to ascertain whether there was any argument between the fleeing gunmen and the deceased traders.

The source who pleaded anonymity said that the prevalent opinion within the police high command in Minna, as of Friday, was that the gangsters must have gone to the market under the cover of the night to dispossess the victims of their valuables.

Oba of Benin, Omo N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo Erediauwa 11

As the National Assembly gets set for another round of constitution amendment, the Senate President, Senator David Mark Friday hinted that the lawmakers might consider giving specific constitutional roles to traditional rulers in the proposed amendment.

He disclosed this in Benin City when he led members of the 3rd regular course of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) alumni association 1967 set on a courtesy visit to the to the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo Erediauwa 11 in his palace.

Mark said when the 7th National Assembly commences the process of amending the 1999 constitution, traditional rulers would be given a place of pride in the new arrangement.

The Senate President however said irrespective of the security and other challenges confronting the nation at present, the unity or indivisibility of Nigeria was not negotiable.
He therefore told Nigerians not to despair because the benefits of a united nation far outweigh the reversed order.

He stressed that Nigerians had accepted democracy as a way of life, adding, “we must do our best to perfect the process so that we can all reap the dividend of democracy.”

The Senate President added: “The unity and progress of Nigeria through a democratic process is the desire of all citizens. We must therefore provide a suitable environment for democracy to thrive.”

His colleagues, who have served in various military formations he said, have continued to contribute their quota to unity and development of the nation.

Responding, Omonoba Erediauwa thanked the delegation members for their continued contribution to nation building, urging them not to relent in their endeavours.

Also yesterday, the president of the Senate at a courtesy call on Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State implored government at all levels to make the welfare and security of the citizenry their watchwords.
He told the governor to uphold the tempo of development in the state so that the citizenry would continue to reap their investment on democratic government.
In his remark, governor Oshiomhole said he had recorded modest achievements that have earned him the respect from the people, promising not to rest on his oars in that stead.

A popular Sierra-Leone pastor, Prophet Joshua Karjoh, who is currently in Nigeria on a spiritual cleansing mission, has claimed that the death of Hip Hop singer, Obiajuru Nwozo, otherwise known as MC Loph on Wednesday, 14 September, 2011 is not natural.
Prophet Karjoh, told us that the musician was attacked by those who are envious of his success, adding that perhaps, “the evil perpetrators have realised that he was going to be a greater person in few years’ time.

He is also of the opinion that many deaths that have plagued the Nigerian entertainment industry in recent time are not natural, adding that there is every reason for Nigerian entertainers to be more careful and move closer to God.

“I didn’t know the musician (MC Loph) before his death but when some of his colleagues hinted me about how he died, I asked and it was divinely revealed to me that he was attacked. The enemies hit him with a spiritual rod on the head and waist.

I can see where the problem lines.

The Office of Her Excellency, wishes to make it categorically clear that available report from the leadership of the University said that there was no such inglorious act and ugly incident in the institution.

His Excellency, Chief T. A. Orji, the Executive Governor of Abia State has investigated and still investigating the allegation. However, we appeal that the victim should help by giving a lead to enable government bring perpetrators to book.

Her Excellency has been at the forefront of championing the course of womanhood and promoting the Girl Child Education, Kicking against Child trafficking and Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy and Child Labour, and would therefore stop at nothing to bring the perpetrators to face the long arm of the law if allegation if found to be true even if happened outside the institution.

The report as a matter of necessity, justice and fair play should be substantiated with facts in the interest of our society.
