See why southwest is the most dependent region in the county Germany doesn't have gas reserves, but it's the most industrialised country in Europe. Is Germany a dependent country in Europe? |

boringdraw: Tinubu is playing a long range game with short sighted South South politicians. The coastal road will take 8 years to complete.
Why not start the road construction from Calabar to Lagos? Remember the design has not been approved by BPE and FEC according to the minister. Don't believe the story it's starting soon. How come the Lagos section design was approved and funds voted and released for it?
That way all the business affected in Lagos now can operate and pay taxes for more years before eventually demolition if need be.
Since the road will presumably be half way in the next fours years, South South will be coerced to vote APC or lose out if Tonubu doesn't win.
What if Tinubu loses the next election?
What if Tinubu wins and turn his attention in another big project that benefits his region leaving the South South hanging?
South South should have insisted the road start from Calabar, that way Tinubu will ensure it gets to his region when completed. Very boring mumu reasoning. |

Fareke: The Israeli state has “loosened” its military rules of engagement, essentially giving its soldiers the green light to kill anyone they encounter inside the Gaza Strip as part of their ground operations. Israeli politicians and soldiers are talking openly about turning Gaza into dust, eliminating Palestinians, and imagining Israeli settlers living on land that used to be called Gaza. Palestinians are being deliberately deprived of all the basic necessities for life, including food, water, shelter and medical care. Bombs from the air are indiscriminately killing and maiming Palestinians. Palestinians are being encouraged to leave their lands and homes in northern Gaza and head towards the south – Israel clearly wants to colonise northern Gaza and turn it into a security or military zone, permanently expelling the Palestinians who currently live there. Shebi you were jubilating and celebrating on Oct 7, 2023. Why this lamentation now? |

That was the reason you won a land case against the Ijaws in the court of law. Both Ogiso dynasty of Igodomigodo and Oba dynasty of Bini were started by Ile-Ife people under the leadership of Obagodo and Oranmiyan respectively |
Culture › Re: Benin Traditional Council Suspends Five Chiefs For Pledging Alliance To Ooni by Raf4: 5:06pm On Apr 28, 2024 |
FxMasterz: The Ooni was not a king but an ifa priest. The original king of ife went on a war against popular advice. Before he left he installed the priest of ife as administrattor in his absence. The king was stopped by the river Niger on his war expedition. Due to shame, he couldn't return back to ife. He turned aside and founded Oyo ilé which now metamorphosed into Oyo Empire. The ife king never returned to ife till he died but he ruled as Alaafin of Oyo in his self exile. Meanwhile the ife priest who was installed as administrator became king and was referred to as Ooni of ife. The Ooni dresses like an ifa priest till today because he is indeed an ifa priest.
This also explains why the Ooni gives up his stool to the king of Benin on a visitation. The king of bein is Omo n' ọba which means Omo Oba (Prince) in Yoruba land. With the understanding that the Oba of Benin is an ife Prince, the Ifa Priest must honour the prince whenever he visits. You're spewing rubbbishhhh. |

Shattuck: what does oba mean in Yoruba language, if oba truly represents king how come non of your ancient kingship bears the title of oba, if ife is the ancestral home as you claim and ooni is the title of the ruler of ife, why did the ooni not name the the benin king as the ooni of Benin? How come no other ancient kingdom in Yorubaland bears oba, except lagos which was founded by the Benin kingdom which the oba of lagos claim his descendants are from Benin, the Benin kingdom is one of the oldest civilization and according to history a Benin prince left the Benin kingdom to ife the same prince sent one of his son's to return to Benin and become the king after his father's demise, not that the Yoruba established kingship in Benin, btw the oba is not an original yoruba word it is a borrowed word probably inspired by the Benin kingdom, because if it means king originally the ooni of ife, alaafin of oyo, soun of Ogbomosho would have been referred to as oba of ife, oba of oyo, and Ogbomosho respectively. Asking what does Oba mean in Yoruba is akin to asking what does king mean in English. Anyway, Oba in Yoruba means king and their titles are as follows: Ile-Ife - Ooni Oyo - Alaafin Ijebu - Awujale Ibadan - Olubadan Eko - Eleko Bini - Omo N'Oba Etc. |

aswani: This Ọba is a Yoruba man, his subjects are Benin people needs clarification and I'll summarise as I myself have inadvertently made the mistake myself too.
Izoduwa is Benin Royalty, he went to rule in Ilé ìfẹ́ (You can Google the circumstances and I have also detailed it in a post on another thread).
His was then begged/asked to come back to his proper throne in Benin but refused and as a concession sent his son to rule there.
The son found the natives tough to rule over and left to go back to Ile Ife after leaving a son behind (Ọba Eweka) from a Bini mother.
As long as we can all agree that Izoduwa is a Benin man of royal descent, how can anyone say his descendants who have ruled over Benin are Yoruba? Granted they have Yoruba blood through one of their ancestral females (presumably Izoduwa's wife) but they are all Benin men.
All Ohiọnbá should please accept the truth and desist with calling the Ọba (gha to kpere baba) Yoruba in order not to end up having to drink water in the palace. Have you ever heard about a town called Ughoton before? Go and read about the history of Ughoton and you will see the true picture of Ekaladerhan the missing Prince. |

santaclaws: Oba, means something that's above (from the word "ba" which means over or above) that's why we say in Yoruba language "oba ba lori oun gbogbo" meaning the king or ruler is above all. The etymology is purely Yoruba and if it's used anywhere else, it's borrowed.
Secondly, those kings with titles like Ooni, Alaafin, Soun etc have their unique names as part of their mini kingdoms and they are all called Oba as well. When they introduce them, despite their traditional title, they all still have Oba in front of their names.
For instance the Ooni of Ife, the Paramount ruler of Yoruba land is called Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi CFR.
The traditional title is different from the formal title in Yoruba land, but they are all Obas. This shows that Yoruba land consists of various sub-ethnic groups and it is indeed a large kingdom. And the correct title of Bini King is Omo N'oba Edo because Oranmiyan was Omoba when he ruled Bini. Every Oba of Bini (Descendant of Oranmiyan) is a Prince (Omo N'Oba) of Ile-Ife |

infofta: You must understand the connection between Benin and Ile Ife.
A Bini Prince fled the kingdom of Benin and became an Oba in Ife, got married there and had children. He couldn't return to Benin kingdom rather sent one of his male sons to become an Oba in Benin when his father passed away. That your lost Bini Prince lived, died and was buried in Ughoton Town and Bini Obaship used the same history to win a land legal battle in the court of law against Ijaw people in the past. |

PressMyButton: Four things are very clear; 1. That those individuals that visited Ooni's palace are indeed traditional functionaries of the Benin kingdom. 2. That the suspension signifies the fact that they are indeed serving royal chiefs of the Benin kingdom. 3. That the Benin kingdom are hiding some truths from the people of Benin. 4. That the suspension would not deter more people close to the palace to come out with more truths as the people truly know their own history. You have just said it 100% correctly. For the fact that Bini Traditional Council quickly rushed to suspend them speaks volume. There's something they're hiding. What those chiefs said corresponds with what is publicly known by everyone right from time immemorial. What Bini people are saying now (that Oduduwa was their lost prince) is relatively new and there is no history book or research work in support of this that’s up to 25 years old. It was a propaganda promoted by the immediate past Oba Erediauwa in his book published in 2004. |
