https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KciW0iecaf8?si=4WBFQzj4tJwGcRj4 The South African president has a soft, sweeter side, and people love him for it. President Cyril Ramaphosa left journalists in stitches and social media users in awe after a recent phone call with his wife, Dr Tshepo Motsepe. Ramaphosa was on a call with his wife when cameras picked up the conversation, and everyone couldn’t get over how sweet he was. The president had journalists hanging on his every word as he spoke to his wife before addressing the ANC NEC meeting. Ramaphosa could be heard asking her to pick out an ANC party tie for him, going into details about the size of the stripes on it. The conversation left journalists in stitches, and Ramaphosa had to explain to his wife why he was laughing. “No, I’ve got these people who follow me around,” he joked. The president then got the reporters oohing and aahing when he called his wife mummy. "And then mummy…yes sweetheart…bring me cufflinks as well.”

King Mswati III’s 16th wife and former South African president Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Nomcebo Zuma, touched down in Samoa on Friday morning for the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The billionaire king is currently on a whirlwind tour by private jet to attend to state business, as well as to introduce his new inkhosikati (“queen”) to the world. First on the royal couple’s itinerary was Italy where King Mswati attended the World Food Forum. This was followed by a stopover in Serbia on Monday, with the 56-year-old monarch splashing R1-million on eSwatini University students – including some from South Africa and Burundi – studying in the country. The state-owned Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) reported that each of the students who attended the event where the king and Nomcebo were hosted, received R8,000. According to the eSwatini-based publication Swaziland News, the royals’ overseas trip is estimated to cost citizens of the small kingdom more than R200 million ($11 million). The cost reportedly includes allowances for the royal delegation and what “is described as pocket money for the king and his new wife”. The flying costs for the king’s private jet – which has previously been described as a “palace in the air” – are also included in the hefty sum. The 21-year-old Nomcebo was recently introduced as the king’s new wife at the annual Reed Dance ceremony. The polygamous monarch is said to have paid lobola amounting to R2 million and 100 head of cattle to secure the daughter of the former president and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party leader’s hand in marriage. King Mswati is notorious for spending megabucks on luxury items and his obsession with exorbitantly expensive watches is no state secret. At President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration ceremony in Pretoria in June this year, the king flashed a Jacob & Co Brilliant Skeleton Tourbillon Ruby watch worth more than R16 million ($904K). Following in her husband’s footsteps, Nomcebo has been spotted flaunting a glitzy Jacob & Co Epic X Tourbillon Baguette watch on the state trip. The timepiece is estimated to be worth around R3.9 million ($226K). “I have no clue of her jewellery. But individual wardrobes are financed privately,” the king’s spokesperson, Percy Simelane, told Swaziland News when asked for comment on Wednesday. According to the luxury watchmaker’s website, Nomcebo’s Epic X Baguette’s bezel is made up of 36 baguette-cut white diamonds” and “worn on an everyday basis, it makes for a perfect daily companion”. Despite her “perfect daily companion”, insiders told the publication that several friends and relatives of Zuma’s daughter were included in the delegation so the young wife would “not feel lonely” throughout the trip. The royal couple’s extravagant overseas trip comes at a time when it is estimated that about 70% of the kingdom’s population is living below the poverty line. Eswatini is also facing an education and health crisis amid a shortage of drugs in public hospitals, while schools face a shortage of teachers and working equipment. But apart from that, the government is struggling to pay suppliers within the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector which has resulted in the closure of various companies and job losses.

EmperorCaesar:That's FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Johannesburg. This one is in Durban. |
A new sky car, new viewing platform, sea facing bungee jumping and a new big swing; these are just some of the many new attractions to Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium. Built ahead of the 2010 World Cup, the stadium is currently undergoing upgrades and refurbishments that aim to attract visitors to the site. Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Mayor Cyril Xaba, said the work being done is to ensure the stadium remains one of the best sporting facilities in the country. "A few months ago, the council approved R236 million to rehabilitate the stadium which has been in existence for 15 years. We want to assure all our stakeholders that the venue is structurally sound, and it will continue to host major events while the repairs are ongoing. This has been approved and certified by engineers," Xaba said. He said after its opening in 2009, the stadium required major upgrades and rehabilitation to ensure that it does not only remain relevant and attractive, but also compliant. "We have no doubt that these upgrades will not only guarantee commercial viability of the stadium, but they will also improve safety of residents and visitors. This is in line with our vision of building resilient infrastructure that is aligned with evolving technological advancements," Xaba said. What to expect: * Arch & Bowl Lighting * Reinstated Arch lighting * Option for colour themed lighting * New Sky Car * New high spec cabin * Increased travel time for enhanced user experience * Increased availability (engineered to travel in higher winds) * Accessible to disabled persons * New Viewing Platform * 60% increase in floor area * High spec glass construction * Cantilevered glass floor for “Air Walk” experience * New Docking Station * Visitor reception area with enhanced visitor experience * High spec architectural design * New Big Swing * Improved access to launch platform and revisioned platform * New Zip Line * New experience * Ends at People’s Park for after adventure refreshments * Compression Ring Walk * Dramatic Durban vistas * Sea facing bungee jump option

helinues:Hmmm, might seem so. There are 3 African countries now in BRICS. Two of them - Egypt+ Ethiopia have new tensions. Might be something to look at. Sudan is just next door. What is western agenda (Ukraine, Gaza) isn't necessarily BRICS agenda. Reform of UNSC is a hot topic in the global south, and Africa wants a seat. De-dollarization is also an ongoing discussion. |

South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa is in Russia for the Brics Summit. BRICS is an economic+ political alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China + South Africa. SA is a founding member of BRICS leading emerging economies and Africa's largest economy. In Africa, South Africa has a GDP of $400 billion while smaller economies like Nigeria have just a GDP of $250 billion. Ramaphosa held bilateral talks with Putin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhsWDI5NeRY?si=gtOAhnssO77GE2C_ At the previous 2023 BRICS summit in South Africa, more countries joined the exclusive club to become BRICS+ (plus). Some new notable countries include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia. SA will be president of G20 leading developed economies in 2025 and the summit will be held in Johannesburg.

Technically, SA is correct. Taiwan has a Liaison Office in SA, not embassy, and likewise for SA in Taiwan because South Africa does not recognisze Taiwan as a bona fide State. Therefore, Taiwan, as much as I sympathize with them, is forcing things.

Amigoss:I'm saying Nigerian numbers can't be trusted - like all numbers that come out of nigeria It's so pathetic, nigeria has to be the only country in the whole wide world to count every dollar and cent (if the numbers are to be believed ) they spent toward the global anti-apartheid movement +then publish them for the world to see. No other country has done that, even our neighbours Your need for relevance + attachment to Brand South Africa + Brand Mandela is truly pathetic![]() |
Amigoss:Imagine SA military agreeing nigeria spent $60 billion on SA like it has access to your treasury Even apartheid govt had no such access. Just lies & exaggeration from empty chest beating as usual, to be relevant. Like i said, go dig up abacha - he too will be surprised he spent $60b He would've used it on electricity ![]() |
Pres Ramaphosa looks bewildered. The only black sheep. I wonder if he understands what is going on.
