Hi There,

Please go through my earlier post on acne and treating of spots from pimples.

Now,as per a cream to use for your body; what do yu want to achieve? An even skin tone? Maintain suppleness and Moisture content? The thing about we Nigerians is that, we believe that it is only body creams that can make our skin good, hence the overflooding of our markets with cheap, dangerous products. It is not a must for you to use a cream to achieve the desired result that you want. For example, I do not use body cream for my body, because I sweat a lot. I only apply moisturisers to my legs because they are dry. Just determine the end result and we can start it from there.

Please revert as soon as you can.

kayceeT: Hello,
Pls I need help with how to get rid of pimples and spots on my face. The pimples occur very regularly and leave my face rough around my checks most times.
Hi There

Find below a general advice for acne;

1. First, you need to have a professional acne facial done to extract most of the infected matter (Bacterial Activity)on your face.

2. Try to get Bion's Antibacterial Cleanser to begin to reduce bacterial activity on your skin. These cleansers contain unique ingredients that eliminate or reduce P. acnes, 5alpha-reductase, sebum production, free fatty acids, lipase production and inflammatory cascades - all underlying agents of acne

3. Bion's Green Tea Clay poultice would help pull out the bacteria from underneath your skin. You apply this only on the swollen spots to dry them up effectively.

4. Avoid Dirty handkerchiefs and other materials from coming in contact with your skin.

5. Try to change your pillow case twice weekly. If possible get rid of the one you are currently using and replace with a fresh one.

If you are not able to get the products in your location, then check this website; www.roseandvelvet.com They should be able to send you whatever you need.

Following the strict regimen would gradually resolve the situation for you.

Please let me know if you need further help.

i have pimple all over my face(only)and black sport as a result of the pimples, have tried using several product even the Neo-Medrol u prescribe but it only works for a while. my face really looks dull as if am older than my age. i really need help please.
Thanks
Hi There,

I usually recommend Neomedrol for hormonal acne, not all forms. You can read my earlier posts on acne.

As per the dullness of your face, you probably have the condition that is called retention hyperkeratosis. Its the condition whereby the normal skin shedding occurs at a faster rate than usual and then refuses to fall off, hence the overall dullness to the skin.

You need to have a professional strength exfoliation and an acne treatment done to generally open up your skin. Then home care products like antibacterial cleansers, green tea clay poultice should be part of your daily regimen.

This should help you greatly.

I use disinfectant all d time when bathing, and I don't rub cream cos I always feel hot and sweaty wen I do. Pls what do I do?
Hi There,

You see all these products that give funny side effects, usually contain steroids and steroids in turn mostly compromise the skin integrity. So it is quite possible that this is a delayed reaction to the product.

Now to recommend something for the rashes; can you send a clear pic of the condition to my email box? Its opeyemi.omezie@gmail.com Then we can take it on from there.

Stop using antibiotics and bp. The damage to the skin is far worse than the good it does.

Cos i dont really like the way my face is. thanks and God bless.
Hi There,

Stop using this product immediately. Give your skin time to purge itself off the dependency on steroids within the product. This may take a while, but your skin would definitely get back to normal again.

Try to also get restorative creams like Bion's Calcium topical capsules, ultra moisture renewal or bioessence calcium complex. They would also assist your skin with the withdrawal process.

I think its better you see your doctor. Stop using any products recommended by friends and family. The skin of your baby is too tender to be played with.

I think you have some form of atopic dermatitis. You need to see a dermatologist or a pharmacist at best, who can recommend some form of medications for you. Hi There,

Try getting Nizoral treatment cream for the whitish eczema. As per the body acne, you need to get something specific for that. I know about Bion's Naturally Clean Body wash designated for combating body acne. I have personally used this product for body acne too. Or you could try Avon's body wash for acne.

I always recommend Bion products though, because the range is formulated by a dermatologist and a biochemist in the US. Being a biochemist myself, I understand the basic multi-reaction pathways that their products target.

This should help you greatly.

Hi There,

The best product that I can prescribe for dark knuckles and toes is Bion 20% Glycolic Acid cream. It would help shed off the pile up of the dead skin cells on this areas.

Otherwise, you could try a series of chemical peels.

Hi There,

However, Below is a general advice for acne sufferers who also have the transient PIH

1.Wash your face twice a day with a acne specific facial cleanser e.g Bions' Antibacterial Cleanser (Pimples is primarily caused by a bacteria, so you need an antibacterial wash to reduce the colony on your skin). Please do not scrub your face, but wash it lightly
2. Use a facial scrub twice a week
3. Get a good Acne specific poultice(E.g, Bion's Green Tea Clay Poultice - Pulls the infection up out of the skin to be flushed out) and dab only on the spots at night or Use Neo-Medrol, if they are located majorly around the chin area.
5. Have a Medicated-Anti-acne facial once a month to have all of the lesions extracted.
6. Have Facial peel done to remove all the dark pots on your face.
7. Try to drink at least 4 litres of water/day and some green tea for a system detoxification for the reoccuring acne

I suggest you treat the reoccuring acne first before dealing with the spotting.

I think this would help a great deal.

michy: Hello R and V,
I used steroid for my face without knowing the implication (skineal, funbact A and epiderm). It almost damaged my skin. it cleared the acne but I later had a rebound. I used sebamed which helped for while even though it was slow in action. I later did a facial treatment in a spa in Enugu. The acne has reduced very well. It just comes out sparingly.
My problem is the dark black spots. It has persisted for a very long time. Its almost like an indelible mark. My face is now darker than everyother part of my body and its so dull in appearance. I've seen what you recommended for others but I don't know how to get them in Enugu. I'm currently using Neutrogena oil free cleanser and the triple action toner. Do you think that will help me? toluh: Good day R n V. God bless you for the work you are doing here.
Please have been using shea butter for some time now, and its wonderful on my skin(my skin feels like dat of a baby.am not exergerating, everybody say so). But it's causing breakout on my face.I use 2 have a pimple free face, but I can't say that now. Let me say I have a very oily face, and I exfoliate twice a week.
Secondly, my sister started using shea butter, because she saw the wonders on my skin. But it's making her dark. She's fair in complexion, but she's almost my colour now. We all use dudu osun or black soap. Please help
Hi There,

Sheabutter is very good for the skin because of its high moisturising and healing components. However, I would not advise it for someone who has a comedogenic skin (Skin that breaks out easily). It clogs the pores leading to various breakout activity. I would suggest you leave it out from your facial skin care routine, and just go for non-comedgoenic moisturisers. If it does not cause any breakout activity on your body, then it should just be fine.

Now, just because something works for person A, does not mean it would work in the same way for person B. Your sister should try to get what fits her skin type. To effectively lighten her skin, she needs basically three things; 1. A good exfoliator, 2. a safe lightening cream, 3. A good sunscreen

The Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, thereby leaving your skin fresh and supple enough for the actives in the lightening cream to work effectively. Avoid bleaching creams containing hydroquinone, mecury and steroids. They my work fantastically now, but years down the line, you may regret your action, as you may begin to develop onchronosis(That blue black discoloration on the skin of bleached people) or discolorations of your fingernails.

For faster results, you may get a series of chemical peels done, or buy body peel products, like Bion's 20% Glycolic Acid Cream, and then use safe lightening creams like Otentika etc.

Lastly, and most importantly, she needs to get a sunscreen to protect her from the damaging effects of the sun

This should help you greatly.

Hi There,

From your description, I think you might have the very common skin disorder called folliculitis barbae.

Folliculitis Barbae commonly known as bumps is a male skin condition that occurs following shaving (razor bumps), frequently involving particularly curly beard hair. Following shaving, the curly hair grows within the follicle in a corkscrew manner, growing into the follicle lining (wall). The follicle opening may also be partially blocked by cellular debris (dead skin cells), which increases the frequency of in-grown hairs. Inflammation and a bacterial or viral infection frequently results. Folliculitis barbae is not acne but has similarities to acne (pustules and infections).

Folliculitis is generally caused by Staphylococcus bacteria (staph infection) and not by Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), which causes acne. If product information does not include mention of this distinction and address the control of Staphylococcus, it is not likely the product(s) will control this bacteria. Treatment with these products may be ineffectual. Effective folliculitis barbae treatment must include removal and control of Staphylococcus.

As such the whole point to treatment and prevention is the control of this bacteria. You must have started using something that introduced this bacteria to your skin and the colony is multiplying continually.

The best products that I can recommend for you and personally vouch for is the Bion Range of products to help salvage your current situation.

1. BiON's Antibacterial Cleanser and Bacteriostat Cleanser both kill P. acnes, but they also kill staphylococcus, E. coli, Salmonella and a number of other dreaded bacteria. These cleansers remove staph from the skin and kill the bacteria in existing folliculitis infections.

2. BiON's Salicylic-Glycolic Gel and Follicle Clearing Lotion remove cellular debris from the follicles to keep the openings clear and allow the hair to pass beyond the follicle openings. This significantly reduces the potential for new in-grown hairs. Both of these products, and the cleansers, contain anti-inflammatory agents to prevent excessive exfoliation of the follicular linings, which promotes folliculitis barbae.

Whatever products (Products that target staphylococcus) you decide to use for the situation, please make sure that;

-Treatment in the AM should follow shaving.
-Clean your razors regularly, as razors retain bacteria. If possible, replace the current razor you are using to new ones
-Use paper towels for a period of time to dry the face to avoid contamination from a soiled towel.
-Change pillow cases frequently for a period of time. Again, if possible, replace your current pillow with a fresh one.

You will need to continue with this regimen for a while, because If treatment is discontinued, folliculitis barbae may reoccur in time.

This should help salvage the situation greatly.

Please dont hesitate to contact me for further assistance.

Jumper-4:
Evenin r and v,
I'm a chocolate skinned guy. When I was younger, I was a lot fairer than I am now and this darkening all started when I got into the uni. Parts of my body that hardly see the sun can testify to how light I was. Now, parts of my body are darker esp. My face. Its got dark patches here and there...sides of my nose, my eyelids, forehead. I think my skin is a combo btw oily and normal but one thing is I sweat like hell...like a tuber of yam on a new yam festival. I sweat when I have a hot bath...when I rub lotion..basically anytime its not cold or there's an atom of heat. Right now, I'm so frustrated I don't even know the right soap or lotion to use. I need a remedy to the darkening and pls try and make it as simple as. If you're recommending a product, I'd appreciate if its something readily available. Thank you.
Hi There,

As per your sweating condition, that is generally a normal and essential body function. I used to have an extreme condition called Ancilliary Hyperhydrosis, which is a condition whereby I sweat excessivey underneath my armpits alone. Because of this situation, I never used to wear plain tops, because the armpits of the top would be soaked and obvious before mid-day. But now, I have noticed that it has greatly reduced. So our bodies generally change as we age. Dont sweat it. You are very normal.

What I do is, I dont apply lotion on my body at all for any reason, only on my feet that is dry. You could do the same. You may skip the body moisturising, and moisturise only the essential parts that seem dry

As per the skin darkening, My advice to you is similar to what I gave earlier to 150.

To effectively lighten or maintain your skin tone, You need basically three things; 1. A good exfoliator, 2. a safe lightening cream, 3. A good sunscreen

The Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, thereby leaving your skin fresh and supple enough for the actives in the lightening cream to work effectively. Lastly, and most importantly, you need to get a sunscreen to protect yourself from the damaging effects of the sun. This is very important, as the sun is the major culprit for the relapse you get after effectively lightening your skin. Personally, I prefer safe lightening creams that contain sunscreen. E.g. the Otentika cream etc. Sunscreens come with lables such as spf 15 and above.

This should help you greatly.

Iovely thread you got going here.I just stumbled upon your thread just now and I would like to share my own skin problem that has been a major source of concern and has been affecting me badly.
As we all know the face is an important part of our body.it is the first point of contact people see.and mine has been deterioting for a while now.
It has been taken over by big pimples and black heads.they keep reoccuring over and over again..they are the hard and painful ones also coupled with spots and black scars of the pimples that has left.I have tried all sorts of facial treatments, tube, creams and cleansers.still no positive response.
I would love to know if there is a permanent cure to this I would love you to put me through on how to take care of it and various products to use.I look forward to a positive and timely response from you.

Hi There,

I think you may have the very common condition called Acne Vulgaris. Basic Characteristics of Acne Vulgaris are;
1. Acne Vulgaris infections raise to pustules (pus filled pimples) on the surface of the skin and are usually painful.
2. The Acne Vulgaris pustules usually discharge this white pus when squeezed.
3. Blackheads, cysts and papules (small red spots) may be present.

Good news is that it is quite curable, while the not soo good news is that it might take some time before everything is finally cleared. Now you would have to do the following;

1. First, you need to have a professional acne facial done to extract most of the infected matter (Bacterial Activity)and the blackheads on your face.
3. Bion's Green Tea Clay poultice would help pull out the bacteria fro underneath your skin. You apply this only on the swollen spots to dry them up effectively.
4. Avoid Dirty handkerchiefs and other materials from coming in contact with your skin.
5. Try to change your pillow case twice weekly. If possible get rid of the one you are currently using and replace with a fresh one.

This would gradually resolve the situation for you.

Please let me know if you need further help.

Note: I have some traces of Stretch Marks ooo!!!! pls help me I want to fall back to my normal complexion before my husband will return. grin
Hi There,

Its quite normal for a new mother to have this discoloration in some parts of the skin. Its called the mask of pregnancy. Anyway, your skin will return to its natural skin color after a while, so dont be pressured to start using unsafe products on your skin. Remember that you are breastfeeding, and anything that gets into your bloodstream is likely to be passed on to your baby. So products containing hydroquinone, steroids, mercury and the like are a no go area for you.

I dont know this HB55 and the Idole soap, so you need to check if it is safe for you to use. But please wait for a while before you start thinking of lightening your skin just yet.
