ivcraig: Hello, R and V. Thank you for your service to everyone who have requested for help.
I also have a request. My skin has grown dark over time as a result of 2X weekly shaving or less at times and scars from bumps. My beards grow fast and most times cause bumps. I am light skinned and it makes these dark parts obvious. I need your help on this. Thank you.
Hi There,

So sorry about your condition. Just to give you background knowledge;

Folliculitis Barbae commonly known as bumps is a male skin condition that occurs following shaving (razor bumps), frequently involving particularly curly beard hair. Following shaving, the curly hair grows within the follicle in a corkscrew manner, growing into the follicle lining (wall). The follicle opening may also be partially blocked by cellular debris (dead skin cells), which increases the frequency of in-grown hairs. Inflammation and a bacterial or viral infection frequently results. Folliculitis barbae is not acne but has similarities to acne (pustules and infections).

Folliculitis is generally caused by Staphylococcus bacteria (staph infection) and not by Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), which causes acne. If product information does not include mention of this distinction and address the control of Staphylococcus, it is not likely the product(s) will control this bacteria. Treatment with these products may be ineffectual. Effective folliculitis barbae treatment must include removal and control of Staphylococcus.

As such the whole point to treatment and prevention is the control of this bacteria. You must have started using something that introduced this bacteria to your skin and the colony is multiplying continually.

The best products that I can recommend for you and personally vouch for is the Bion Range of products to help salvage your current situation.

1. BiON's Antibacterial Cleanser and Bacteriostat Cleanser both kill P. acnes, but they also kill staphylococcus, E. coli, Salmonella and a number of other dreaded bacteria. These cleansers remove staph from the skin and kill the bacteria in existing folliculitis infections.

2. BiON's Salicylic-Glycolic Gel and Follicle Clearing Lotion remove cellular debris from the follicles to keep the openings clear and allow the hair to pass beyond the follicle openings. This significantly reduces the potential for new in-grown hairs. Both of these products, and the cleansers, contain anti-inflammatory agents to prevent excessive exfoliation of the follicular linings, which promotes folliculitis barbae.

Whatever products (Products that target staphylococcus) you decide to use for the situation, please make sure that;

-Treatment in the AM should follow shaving.
-Clean your razors regularly, as razors retain bacteria.
-Use paper towels for a period of time to dry the face to avoid contamination from a soiled towel.
-Change pillow cases frequently for a period of time. If treatment is discontinued, folliculitis barbae may reoccur in time.

This should help salvage the situation greatly.

Please dont hesitate to contact me for further assistance.

dazzle21: Pls I need help. I use a maxitone cream it give me a bad sunburn. I use 7day and 7 night to cream to clear it . It worsen it now my face is so red that makeup can't cover. Pls d wat do I use to clear d redness)
Hi Dazzle21,

I am very sorry to hear about your condition. This just reiterates my point that you should stay away from all these dangerous creams that promise unnatrual and unrealistic results. Any lightening cream that contains hydroquinone, mercury or steroids are a no-go area for your skin.

The best remedy that I can recommend to calm down your situation is to try to get Bion's Calcium Complex Capsules. It is the product that I always give to people who have felt the backlash of the dangerous chemicals in the products that seem to be everywhere in our market. It is a cream in a capsule format, and it immediately desensitizes the already sensitized area.

Please do not apply any more harsher creams to your face, avoid scrubbing too hard, until this inflammatory response calms down. If you cannot get the Calcium Complex cream, try to get any cream that is designated as 'soothing and calming'. After you have calmed down the area, then you can begin a safe skin lightening procedure (Like lightening chemical peels + the usage of safe skin lightening Products) to lighten the Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation.

Trust this would help a great deal.

Mr.Sinister:
Thanks a lot for the info. Pls can u give me some more ideas on "safe" skin lightening cream to use.
Hi There,

Products like Otentika, Topicreme, Dr Clear and La Roche Natural Skin Brightener, are examples of safe skin lightening ingredients.

They may not produce the instantaneous results that Hydroquinone and steroids provide, but they also would not damage your skin either.

Trust this suffices.

Mr.Sinister:
Good day,
Please how do i achieve one colour tone for my entire body. I am very dark in complexion above my neck. From my neck to my waist am a bit lighter, let's say "Brown" in colour. From my waist down to my ankles i am very light in complexion, just like a fair skinned person.
Its very embarrassing when i put on shorts and go shirtless because my head looks like its from another body. I'd appreciate your help if you offered it.
Hi There,

You need basically three things; 1. A good exfoliator, 2. a safe lightening cream, 3. A good sunscreen

The Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, thereby leaving your skin fresh and supple enough for the actives in the lightening cream to work effectively. Avoid bleaching creams containing hydroquinone, mecury and steroids. They my work fantastically now, but years down the line, you may regret your action, as you may begin to develop onchronosis(That blue black discoloration on the skin of bleached people) or discolorations of your fingernails.

For faster results, you may get a series of body peels done, or buy body peel products, like Bion's 20% Glycolic Acid Cream, and then use safe lightening creams like Otentika etc.

Lastly, and most importantly, you need to get a sunscreen to protect you from the damaging effects of the sun

This should help you greatly.

Hi There,

What kind of pimples do you currently have? Is it raised and painful, or just a general roughness on your skin?

I need to know this becasue there are different grades of acne, and each grade require specific care.

However, Below is a general advice for acne sufferers

1.Wash your face twice a day with a acne specific facial cleanser e.g Bions' Antibacterial Cleanser (Pimples is primarily caused by a bacteria, so you need an antibacterial wash to reduce the colony on your skin). Please do not scrub your face, but wash it lightly
2. Use a facial scrub twice a week
3. Get a good Acne specific poultice(E.g, Bion's Green Tea Clay Poultice - Pulls the infection up out of the skin to be flushed out) and dab only on the spots at night or Use Neo-Medrol, if they are located majorly around the chin area.
5. Have a Medicated-Anti-acne facial once a month to have all of the lesions extracted.
6. Have Facial peel done to remove all the dark pots on your face.
7. Try to drink at least 4 litres of water/day and some green tea for a system detoxification for the reoccuring acne

I think this would help a great deal.

Sleekjd: @ Poster, kudos
I have a sensitive skin and I have rash on my face every now and den. Cos of this I don't use foundation just talc and once in a while pressed powder.
I use dettol soap for my face, extract papaya facial cleanser n So white " fair n white" face moisturiser. I don't use scrub. If I do I have rashes dat looks like heat rashes.
For my body I use dudu osun soap, fair n white exclusive cream mixed with shear butter n d serum.
Pls how good is my body care range and pls recommend a good facial care dat would give me a glowing skin.
Just learnt Fair n White contains hydroquinone, pls how true is this?
Thanks for your anticipated response.
Hi There,

If you think you have a sensitive skin on your face, I would suggest you stop using soap on your face and get a cleanser (face wash) designed for sensitive skins. These products contain ingredients that help to calm down all sorts of eruptions on the skin. Stop the moisturizer, except if your skin is exceptionally dry.

For your body, it depends on how you view your skin right now. If you are getting good results, it's fine. However, you need to check the ingredients label on your product for any harmful ingredients like hydroquinone. It should be written on the back of th product on the ingredient list.

Do have a lovely day ahead.

booqee: Hi RandV, great job you're doing here.
1. I have these annoying whitish stuff on my face, precisely my nose, its popularly known as 'egusi' in yoruba. It usually doesn't show except i press my nose, and it comes out so irritatingly. But now, its worse that its practically showing on my face just sticking right dere on my face permanently even without pressing it. (am i communicating?) Pls dyu know what i can do to cure my face of this thing?? Thanks.

2. My younger sister has got this terrible black spot on her legs and arms. Actually, she had this infection when she was younger; these itching would just start on her skin till it leads to a wound..and she's got so many on her skin. Now she's all grown up and these infection has miraculously stopped. But these wounds have left really bad black spots on her skin, especially her legs, its so much and bad, that they're even makin d skin on her legs to wrinkle, and they're black and spread almost everywhere(she's fair, so u can imagine how bad it is) Dyu have any idea on how to clear spots and wrinkling of skin..(her spots are pretty much old o). Its been there since she's little. Thanks. I'll appreciate ur reply. We've tried so many creams for her to no avail. She can't even wear a knee length skirt or gown. Its dat bad.
Thanks.
Hi There,

Yeah, I can understand your frustration with those whitish stuff. They are however called sebaceous filaments, and they are formed the way pimples form. The only major difference is the absence of infection with these filaments.

For you to have them in large numbers like that, it means your skin is getting more clogged by the day, with oil, dead cells, environmental residue and a whole other stuff. You need to start aerating your skin to free the clogged pores from the debris in them. You must do the following;

1. Have a professional extract all the whitish debris from your skin. You cannot do anything to remove the debris completely and successfully without professional help
2. Start exfoliating your skin regularly. Your skin is piled full of dead cells that are refusing to fall off, hence the congestion of your pores. You can use physical Exfoliants(scrubs) or chemical Exfoliants (AHAs). I would advise the latter, as they penetrate the skin more and assist to sweep off all dead cells still attached to the surface of the skin. Twice to three times weekly would work just fine
3. Begin to use a remedial product for blackheads and whiteheads. The very best I know is Bion Blackhead/Whitehead controller. This helps to dissolve plugs and greatly reduce the onslaught of congestion
4. Avoid skin products that tend to clog the skin. Makeup, face creams or body creams can sometimes be the main culprit behind this condition.
5. Start taking fish oil supplements. They assist provide the skin with a natural deficiency of essential oils needed to sufficiently lubricate the skin
6. Steam your face like two times a week.
7. Have a light face peel facial done at least once a month to help maintain the results you must have gotten.

As per your sister, she needs some more aggressive treatment protocols, if your description is accurate.

1. She needs to have a series of chemical lighten peels done to help shed off the old dead skin cells, and help lighten the new skin cells
2. She must start using a safe remedial Lightening products to lighten the skin melanin spots.
3. Most importantly, I think she ought to visit a professional to physically observe her condition and advise her on the various safe products available

This should suffice for now.

Hi There,

It's nice to hear from you.

You need to get a skin brightening product that would help brighten your skin. By this, I mean a product that is hydroquinone free. Example of such products is the Avon brightening face lotion +spf15. This would not only brighten your skin, it would also protect from the sun, which is usually responsible for the darkening of our skin. You also need to exfoliate regularly to clear off dead skin cells and reveal your true skin color. A nice gentle scrub would work just fine.

If you feel what you are currently using does not sit well with your skin, I think you should refrain from it for a while.

Trust this suffices for now.

Hi There,

If you are still experiencing this problem, I believe you need two major things;

1. A tone/pigment corrector (Basically a melanin suppressant with dispersing activity)- This would help correct the dark spots
2. A good professional or home based exfoliation. - This would slough off the dead cells that are forming a scaly appearance on the surface of your skin. Home based exfoliation includes facial scrubs that you could use like 2ce a week.

This should help you a great deal

I am fair and I have red spot aftermath of acne from earlier post I have decided to get fair and white soap and the cream. Please which common exfoliating scrub can I get and how can I peel by myself thank you
Hi There,

To clear PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation), you need to do the following

1. Get a Tone Corrector moisturiser
2. Exfoliate regularly with something like a papaya scrub
3. Get a sunscreen to prevent further darkening effects by the sun

If the spots are really prevalent, and you need quick results, you may consider microdermabrasion or a series of chemical peels to lift off the upper layer of the skin. If not, then Lemon Juice is ok, if you apply it on your face at least 3ce a week at night.

This should help alleviate the issue.

Am 20 with a dark skin. I suffered from acne for over 4 yrs from mild to severe. I have been able to control it now with proper lifestyle and diet changes. However the acne has left many scars and spots on my face. It is hyperpigmented.
My scars are not so deep but they are noticable. They are more or less marks and holer of different. The scars have affected my life badly. I want my once clear smooth skin back. Since i have been able to control my acne, i am looking into deep chemical peels for my scars because it is the best option. I want to begin with 8% TCA since it is my ist time and also because it is a deep peel. I will need a neutralizer and a fan brush for application. Pls how can u help me get this peels and what is your take on this, i really want quick result with it. My email is kelvindavid75@yahoo.com
Hi Derickman,

I suggest you get a professional treatment first before you begin any home use of chemical peels, as damages resulting from improper use could be irreversible.

Why I suggest you see a professional, is because you would have your skin tested and analyzed, to see whether you would benefit more from microdermabrasion or the skin peels.

I currently work with Rose and Velvet Skin Clinic and you can book for a skin analysis + Professional Exfoliation session from our website(if you are interested. The website is roseandvelvet.com. You would be contacted on the possible dates that you could come in to the spa. Or better you could come directly to our Day Spa at No 3 Aromire off Adeniyi Jones Ikeja. If you book for an appointment, you get a 15% discount off the prices.

That is the best advice I can profer, as I strongly advise against you doing a peel on yourself for the first time. Please note that the Professional Skin Analysis would be free
