I remember going to Nigeria in early 2003. There were two BIG albums at the time. Tufaces's face 2 face and Ruggedman's Thy Album Come.
I bought about 5 copies of both. The truth is, Ruggedman made me sit up and take note of Naija Hip hop. He made pidgin sound so cool. I only liked Trybesmen's 'plenty nonsense' before that. Rugged definitely made people realise that there was money to be made in naija hip hop. He seemed fearless and daring because taking on Kennis music was no mean feat.
Only Tuface's album may have sold more than Ruggeds TAC at that time.
I don't think he sold 6 figures ( a million?) on i-tunes BUT he probably sold a good number. |

audio: It's very true. As you rightly said, he is standing on his own. Normally, what we get is recycled american rappers in Nigerian bodies. We have our own sean paul (pype), jay Z (vector), Lil wayne/ kanye (MI), TI (Twizzle), Sean Kingston (Wizkid), etc. so good to see some innovation and originality. The more i listen the more i like it. I dont really agree with your anyalsis, its too simplistic and a little insulting to label everybody like that. In fact mekdoss said on this thread that k16 was rapping like Busta Rhymes. People can always find a similarity between rappers. I don't think that is recycling as you have put it. ofokaofoki: everyone is happy for k16, even me that i used to like unseen more than 16,, when you are good you are good! , even the hardest of critics cant even criticise u, i pray k16 comes twice as hard in the album, if he does, he goes str8 to the A-list!!!! junkie na lie no be lie I don't think that anyone can deny that the TTTS EP is one the strongest offerings from any Naija rapper this year. I play the EP from beginning to end each time. If he is able to surpass this on the album and with proper promotion, then without any doubt k16 will blow like nitro. Some of the beats on TTTS are mad sick. 'no dey run' is my current favourite. . . . |

So according to rapjunkie,KH destroyed MI with those wack lines about "climbing a ladder or umbrella chocolate rain " ?I reserve my comments, but to the issue at hand,KH seems to realize that the music business is hinged on being successful, making money and being relevant via awards you have to show for it. Its not about being broke but feeling relevant via some cheap diss songs.Until KH shows me his awards and 6 digit figure endorsements let keep quite or switch over to fuji music where he will find more than enough artist to beef and diss with his songs.
lets be real. . . . M.I's best line on the diss is the only kelly he only knows is Kelly Rowland? Its silly because on 'gbono feli feli freestyle he says ' my maga didn't pay and i'm friends with kelly hansome' MI's diss is WEEAAAAKKKKK!!!! . . . . . 'bring garri make we soak am'?. . . Kelly showed what he could do if he was backed to a wall, his creativity increased ten-fold and he was allowed to be himself as an artist. Kennis have not had a hit like Kelly's ' Igwe' for looooong time!!. Kelly destroyed M.I in his diss and M.I's 'nobody test me' was an epic failure. How can MI say that the only Kelly he knew was Kelly Rowland when he previously bigged up Kelly Hansome on the 'gbono feli feli freestyle' |

Essense and KSB can be doing the chorus shouting they know how to do, Dekenle will add the comedy fuji flavour, Tony and slam will be doing the fake hard lib, Lexxy go dey back up chorus then the facebook/youtube/twitter fake thug, suck kid and confused ruggeddy can be doing the hip hop blending like rapping b4 and after the piano, gangan, omole and sakara enter then Afrocandy go be the dancer, she go dey shake her smelly old wrinkled yansh for front stage. The beat is just crazy and he is rapping like busta rhymes. All the others are good as well. Ofokaofoki, i don't agree with your low rating of OYA. That is a very good jam. It just needs video. Maybe clarence or sesan somebody like that. I'm hoping to hear this on the radio soon. cheers . . . .he sounds nothing like busta |

This video was a good move. . . . .i just hope that some of the people he mentions dont get all touchy.
BUT he is making a name for himself in his own right. I was one of the people who used to bash Vector for sounding like Jay Z but ever since he released this single in January, i have thought differently about him.
' I love Nigeria' and 'mary Jane' are examples of how creative this guy can be.
looking forward to 'state of surprise'. |
