Governor Okorocha Donates Imo Marine University to Navy
April 25, 2017

By
Amby Uneze in Owerri

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has announced the donation of the state owned Marine University at Ossemotor in Oguta Local Government Area which is still under construction to the Nigerian Navy with the believe that the university would be very useful to the Naval Command and to the society at large.

The governor announced the donation when the committee set up by the Chief of Naval Staff on the New Naval Base in Ossemotor, Oguta, paid courtesy call on him at the Government House Owerri. He added that the government had earlier donated the 200 -bed General Hospital at Ngor-Okpala to the navy.

His words: “We have donated the 200-bed ultra modern hospital at Ngor-Okpala because we know that navy is a disciplined force and will probably run the best military hospital in the State which will be of great importance to Imo people.”

He continued: “We have equally donated to you the Marine University which is under construction at Oguta. The Marine University has the most beautiful location for the navy. We have started this project but we believe that the proper institution to handle it with the naval base should be the Nigeria Navy.

“We have donated the land and undertake to complete the ongoing project which has the capacity of taking about 1,000 students or a thousand officers when completed. We are now waiting for you to come immediately as this government does not take the tranquilising drug of protocol and gradualism. As soon as you commence, the contractors will return to site to complete the project,” he said.

The governor said: “Navy coming to Oguta will help in developing the waterway from Oguta to Lagos thus helping tourism to flourish in the area with Oguta lake which will soon be given a facelift. It will equally make the area secured. This will help the State to tap its tourism potentials to the fullest in the area.”

According to him “all these efforts is to force development to the State as Nigerians have not heard the Imo story yet. There is no state so centralised and richly endowed like Imo State. We have allocated land for the Naval Command School and another land for the navy estate. Admitted the naval captain as a member of the Imo Security Council. Donated temporary office and quarters for the smooth take off of the naval base.”

In his speech earlier, Commodore Obenta who led the committee, expressed the Chief of Naval Staff’s gratitude and appreciation to the government and good people of Imo State for the donation of the land at Oguta and 200-bed ultra modern hospital at Ngor-Okpala, stressing that the state is ready and willing to support the naval community when eventually the base is established in Oguta and the hospital taken over by the Nigeria Navy.

He promised that the Chief of Naval Staff would expeditiously establish a port at Oguta and fast track the smooth take off of the hospital, pointing out that a strong committee has been set by the Chief of Naval staff for this purpose.
He pledged that the Nigeria Navy is willing and ready to partner the Imo State government in ensuring adequate security for the growth of the state.

Imo State Cargo Airport to be ready by May – Rochas Okorocha

Tope Alabi March 14, 2017
Imo State might be ready to use her International Cargo Airport in May 2017. This was made known by the Governor of the State, during an interaction with newsmen in Owerri.
He said that the airport which costs over N7 billion to upgrade, would improve the economy of the state. The governor was happy with the newly-established Air Force base in the state.
Okorocha said that efforts were being made to ensure the welfare of officers were adequately taken care of. He, however, said that 100 Imo youths with a minimum of five credits in their Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations would be trained and absorbed by the Air Force.
The governor said that the 200-bed General Hospital in Owerri North Local Government Area had been handed over to the Air Force for official use. According to the governor, similar hospitals in Ngor-Okpala, Owerri West and Ideato South have also been handed over to the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force in the state respectively.
Okorocha also said that 200 hectares of land had been allocated to the Air Force for the construction of its new base. He expressed joy over Federal Government’s projects in the state and commended the Army for the three command schools it established in each of the three geo-political zones of the state.
The governor said that security in the state had greatly improved and applauded the security agencies for the development. Okorocha said that the efforts of the security agencies had reduced crime in the state. The governor said that a new security outfit named “Imo Government House Security’’ had been established to complement the efforts of the Rapid Response Squad of the Police and others. He said that efforts were being made to boost the security of the state prisons.

IMO Govt Partners with Chinese Group-Skyrun to Resuscitate Moribund Owerre Ebeiri Industry

03-04-2017

Imo State Governor , His Excellency Owelle Rochas okorocha OON, ably represented by the Chief of Staff Government House Owerri, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu on Saturday April 1st, 2017 led a delegation of Imo stakeholders to commission and handover to the new operators the resuscitated, and rebranded, Owerre Ebeiri Paper packaging industry in Orlu LGA of Imo State.

In his speech while handing over keys of the company to the new operators skyrun International Group ,Nwosu noted that the development was in keeping with the job job creation and industrialization and employment policy of the Governor during the electioneering campaigns of 2015.

He poured great econiums on the Governor for doing the things which past Governors in the state before him could not think of doing, adding that the latest in the series of Moribund and comatose industries he had bought back from those who bought them from the past administrations resuscitated and given back to the people for productivity of the state and for gainful employment of Imo people.

Nwosu on behalf of the Governor
appreciated some people and group who contributed in one way or the other to make the project a reality as follows; National cordinator/Chief executive officer of Nigeria -china Bussiness Council, Chief Mathew Uwaeke for facilitating the arrangement, Ugoeze Shirley okwudinma for attracting the Skyrun Group, the Owerre ebeiri community for protecting the industry even while moribund for over 37 years ago.

Nwosu noted with great delight the plan of the company to diversify into other areas of production like detergent and cosmetics production, as well as agro based production like palm ,cashew;cassava production and processing among others

He called on the community to give the Skyrun Group all the cooperation they need to succeed, show them the hospitality which Imo State is renowned for ,as well as ensure their maximum safety and protection.

Earlier in his welcome address ,the Hon. commissioner,Ministry of commerce and Industry,Engr chidi Ibe had gone down memory lane to recall that the company went Moribund for over 37 years and was abandoned by previous administrations but that Owelle okorocha in his usual magnanimous way and show of love for his state and it's Masses repurchased and was giving back to the people on the occasion.

He noted that the Chinese partners-skyrun international Group was not new in the State as they are already partnering with the Government on a company at Mbaise which has been brought back to full operation in the manufacturing sector and expressed high optimism that the new partnership will be huge success like the others.

The highpoint of the eventvwas the symbolic handing over Of keydcofctge company to the chairman ,Skyrun international Group,Mr xie shau and the handing over of the chinese Group to the traditional ruler of the community for a good working relationship .Also tape of the re-commisioning of the company was also cut by the Chief of staff assisted by the other dignatries.

You don't deserve any response because you are selfish in all yours. You don't care if other parts of Imo State are neglected as long as all useful projects are located in Orlu and neighboring towns when they are supposed to be spread evenly across the State.

I told you in 2015 not to vote for Rochas since He neglected your Orlu but you still supported him only for you to return back to your usual bull sh1t complain of Rochas abandoning Orlu zone after the election and you want sensible people to take you serious?. Who does not know that Rochas has massively developed Orlu with numerous projects ? You deserved to be ignored. The zone that have not been treated fairly is Okigwe zone and Rochas should correct this injustice.

mandax:
Abagworo,

You don't know that Imo people would like to see developments outside Owerri as well as developments in Owerri, your city?

I am on your 'ignore ' list for writing about IMSUTH Orlu, abi?

I heard that Shell has requested the Imo State government to enable them recover Shell camp Owerri.

ImoRiver:
Zuby you are wrong. More people visit Owerri than Enugu and Owerri is equally more modern and lively. Enugu is bigger and more developed now but with the way things are going it might not take a decade for Owerri to replace Port Harcourt as 3rd most important city in Nigeria. The continued crisis in Rivers State has pushed a lot of well to do Rivers natives into relocating to Owerri. If the Rivers crisis continues for 10 more years I see most oil companies relocating their regional headquarters to Owerri with the attendant boom.
