SuperSport confirm Caf blackout after Lagardere contract termination


The broadcasting giants are affected by the decision of Africa's football body and will not be showing any continental game until further notice

SuperSport have announced a halt in the broadcast of content from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) following the termination of Lagardere's $1 billion rights deal.

The decision means fans across the continent will not be able to watch the Africa U23 Cup of Nations, next week's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and upcoming continental tournaments on DStv until further notice.

Earlier this week, Caf announced the termination of Lagardere's 12-year rights as the body's exclusive agent for the sale of marketing and media rights.

According to Caf's statement on Friday, the cancellation came after the deal was pronounced null and void by the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA), the Economic Courts of Cairo (ECC) and the Competition Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa [the CCC].

It has consequently affected SuperSport, who bought broadcasting rights from the French agency.

"Due to the termination by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) of its agency agreement with Lagardere, SuperSport will not be broadcasting Caf content, commencing with the Afcon under-23 championship, starting in Egypt this weekend, until further notice. This also extends to the Afcon qualifiers, which resume on Wednesday, 13 November," the company's statement read, as per Times Live.

MultiChoice group executive for corporate affairs, Joe Heshu, lamented the situation in which the company finds itself with no alternative agreement in place for the games to be broadcast.

“We are in a difficult position where we cannot broadcast the Caf games when we don’t have a firm contractual arrangement in place. SuperSport previously acquired these broadcast rights from Lagardere‚” Heshu said.

IN my early years as turkey farmer I remember checking my coop for up to ten times a day hoping to pick an egg! I was always eager to lay my hands on an egg and each time I found one the feeling was great. I still love picking the eggs each day but I no more do it ten times a day!

My first experience with a soft-shelled egg was quite scary. When I saw the egg I quickly realized something was not right from the way the egg was lying on the floor. When I picked it up, I realized the egg had a shell alright but the egg was so soft I could push it in! Note that there is difference between soft-shelled and no-shell egg.

Non-shelled eggs don't have shells at all! The egg is covered with just a membrane which is very soft and smooth compared to the hard-gritty shell. Soft-shelled eggs however have shell but is badly formed.



As I indicated earlier when I saw the egg I instinctively knew it was not normal. I rushed in and did some internet research to see if anything was wrong. It has been several years now since that experience. I have since come into contact with several soft-shelled eggs. Most people are interested in knowing what causes turkeys to lay soft-shelled eggs.


There are several factors responsible for turkeys laying such eggs. Some of them are:

I have a few turkeys recently hatched at Obasanjo Farms, Abeokuta. I've collected well over 50 birds in the last 7wks. The main challenge here is that l've lost more than 20 of them. We keep them under warmth for 2 weeks after which we keep them under normal temperature.
Pls kindly tell me what may have gone wrong. I'm not happy at all for losing them so much.
