It is understandable to be confused, but based on common issues with the Nigeria Police Specialized Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal, do not pay another fee yet. The "unpaid" status after a successful payment often indicates a temporary system glitch or a synchronization issue between the payment platform and the POSSAP portal.

1. Address the Payment Status First
Before modifying your NIN data, try to resolve the "unpaid" status on POSSAP.
Check Transaction History: Re-check your bank statement to confirm the payment was not reversed.
Use the "Reprocess" Button: Sometimes, the portal has a "Reprocess" or "Verify Payment" button in the "Requests" or "Dashboard" section.
Contact Support Immediately: Send an email to POSSAP support with your Application ID, Payment Reference Number (from Remita/bank), and a screenshot of the payment receipt.
Wait for 24-48 Hours: Technical glitches often resolve themselves, and the status may change back to "successful"

2. Update NIN Phone Number (If Necessary)
If your initial registration was done with a phone number you no longer have access to, changing it is crucial for receiving updates.
NIMC Self-Service: You can update your NIN phone number via the NIMC self-service portal (selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng).
Requirements: You may need a police report confirming the change of phone number to update it on the NIMC database.
Why Do This Second: If the POSSAP system has already finalized the initial submission, changing the NIN number now might not fix the "unpaid" status, but it will help with future, new applications.

3. Do Not Pay Again Yet
Changing your NIN phone number does not require you to pay another fee for the Police Character Certificate itself. The NIN modification has its own small fee (approx. ₦1,522.50), while re-registering for the PCC will cost you the full, high amount again.

Do not pay for the PCC again.
Email POSSAP with your proof of payment.
If you still cannot receive SMS, update your phone number on the NIN Self-Service portal.
Visit the nearest FCID or State Command (if you applied online) with your printed receipt to verify your status in person if online support is slow.

I got my passport today at Alausa. I've been checking it on the website after I captured about 2 months ago.......March 13 precisely. I checked online on Monday and saw that it has been issued/printed.

Got to Alausa passport office at exactly 2:09pm. The lady at the collection said it's late already. That they stop collecting papers by 2pm. I begged her and told her I came from a very far place but she refused. So I went out and met one male officer(good Samaritan) I pleaded and he just collected the paper and told me to wait. I didn't even wait up to 10 mins. He came out and gave me my passport. Thanked him so well and left
