I know there has been a lot of controversies about "Èkó" being A Benin name, But this is very far from the truth!

Eko is a Yoruba name

Eko is a Contraction of the Yoruba word 'Ereko" meaning a Farming village or Dependency (Eri Oko)

Eko Akete — Lagos Island LG, Lagos State
Eko Ende — Ifelodun LG, Osun State
Ekosin — Odo Otin LG, Osun State
Eko Ajala — Ifelodun LG, Osun State
Ekotedo — Ido LG, Oyo State
Eko Kan — Shaki West LG, Oyo State
Oko Eko —
Ijebu East LG, Ogun State



All these Ekos scattered across Yorubaland were established independently without knowledge about any of the others but all happen to have the same 'Eko' Element because of their common denominator which is the Yorùbá language and culture which they all belong to

The fact that it's not even only Lagos that bears the name "Èkó" in Yoruba land has sealed the deal,

Because some Benin claimed "Eko" is a Benin word lol,

Just like the word "Akin" a yoruba word for a Strong man
And "Akin" A English word for something of similar nature

Because these words almost sound the same and has the same spellings in both Yoruba and English does that make English people the owner of Yoruba language?

Ẹkùn with its English translation is controversial among some scholars but Yorùba ancestors specifies a relationship which is basically contention between two rivalry cats family that point to Lion as rival to Tger.

No other cat family can withstand Lion's strenght apart from Tiger. And I wonder if Yoruba ancestors will adopt a low rank cat as Leopard to place such as part royalty emblem to equate or compare the two.

The proverb is self explanatory:

Rather a Lion represents Tiger ,
