akpumping7720: Emeka. Ignorance is a disease. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) was established in 1978 in Nigeria. Was Tinubu holding any political office when NURTW was established in 1978? Having young men working for you isn't a crime. Gringory had boys working with him when he was a stakeholder at Tin Can port. Many Igbo traders had nwa boys working for them. Who be Emeka? Me wey Yoruba pass you. NURTW wasn't in 1978 what it is today, so your argument doesn't even count. What the NURTW is today during elections is someone's militia and we all know that for a fact. Nwa boys don't do that shii. They don't go around stealing ballot boxes and intimidating voters for Peter Obi. |

Were you mandate to grant us visa or did we force our way through? Even if we did, don’t you have intelligence and law enforcement agents.
Cease and desist from damaging our reputation. Your Tinubu at home out there in Nigeria is doing plenty worse for our national image than these spring chickens - and that's a fact! |
Politics › Re: What If Atiku Wins The 2027 Election? by Rayjay45: 5:26am On Aug 29 |
nairalanda1: He won't return the fuel subsidy...
1. The removal of fuel subsidy is enshrined in law. The PIA , sections 205 and 207 essentially say that the market should set the prices of fuel. Unless he wants to revoke the law, which he cannot do just like that, he needs the NA for that, and we do not know how the NA election would turn out to be..nothing can be done.
2. Nigeria has been borrowing to fund the budget for over ten years, and right now, borrowing is funding half of this year's budget. This is partly because subsidy payments till 2023 hindered our ability to raise enough revenue to pay for budgets, which worsened our debt, which is why ironically the tinubu government is borrowing more than other governments.
And our revenue is not going to increase. Nigerians have rejected the government widening the tax base, and the government has not diversifed our revenue streams, and even if they got serious about it today, it would take a very long time before we see returns.
So, any subsidy return would mean essentially that we are paying for it with borrowed money.
3. Because the pricing of crude oil is volatile and is not controlled by government...government cannot determine it, no matter what anyone says...a subsidy on crude, which is what atiku is talking about...is not going to work.
The problem with subsidy is, the government can budget say N12 trillion naira for it for say next year, and then all of a sudden, oil prices rise during the year, pushing up subsidy costs, and leading to government having to borrow to pay for the increased cost, which means more borrowing.
This is the situation, whether we do subsidy on 'petrol leaving the refinery' or subsidy based on selling crude at low prices to the refinery. Government cannot control actual production costs...and trying to do so would end in more borrowing.
It's even worse if crude oil prices fall. Not only does available revenue to pay for subsidy costs fall, but subsidy costs in naira may also rise, meaning more borrowing , meaning ...same story.
People abuse me on this site for saying this, but the problem with subsides is that production costs are not static. Unless your country is less than 50 million and producing eleven million barrels of crude a day, meaning that the revenue can pay for refinery maintenance and upgrades, and even pay for subsides and still have some left over, no country, oil producting or otherwise, can sustain subsides.
Atiku's economic advisors would tell him that , if they were honest. Do you really think anyone is reading your long boring spam messages on every NL thread? Wasting your time away with useless propaganda that everyone can see through. Get a life o. That 30k no go save your future! |

A better man would remove subsidy and Nigerians would still feel the positive impact in social amenities, infrastructure and all-round development.
But this jibiti government's handling of it is the sole reason the masses want subsidy back.
The 90-year-old and his cronies need to take a hard look on themselves in the mirror and feel nothing but shame for once in their lives.
He will be gone in February (that I know) but let him not deceive himself : Nigerians are going to probe this subsidy matter again. He must account for every penny of it!

What an utter bulaaba statement.
The type only our 90-year-old president could make.
The two have a lot in common, if you look at it.
The two are consummate liars. Best in the business.
Their administrations are by far the most corrupt in their country's respective histories.
The two have only but impoverished their citizens whilst giving their oligarch friends a free rein to dunk on the economy.
They both have used their countries' resources to enrich themselves whilst destroying systems that were supposed to check them.
Finally, the two are on a mission to bring back autocracy in their countries.
Give idiots power and watch them cling to it like their lives depend on it. Absolutely nothing to show for it! |
