Black Panther actress, Lupita Nyong’o has confirmed the screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s acclaimed novel, ‘Americanah’.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nyong’o said this in a recent Vogue magazine interview, adding that fans do not have to wait much longer for the adaptation.

She said, “My dream project is finally getting to make Americanah [a 2013 novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie], which is looking very, very likely.

“It’s going to happen in the near future and it’s been a long time in the making and I’m very, very ripe and ready to get into that for sure.”

NAN reports that Nyong’o purchased the film rights to ‘Americanah’ in 2014 and immediately collaborated with fellow Black Panther’s cast mate, Dania Gurira to write the screenplay.

However, in 2018, the duo stated that the novel was being turned into a mini-series and not a feature film. They visited Nigeria to do research for the screen project.

Fans expressed delight that the two filmmakers who are not Nigerian – Nyong’o (Kenyan) and Gurira (Zimbabwean)- were interested in doing quality research for a very Nigerian novel.

This will mark the third time Nyong’o and Gurira work together. Prior to playing Nakia and Okoye in Marvel’s Black Panther, Gurira wrote Eclipsed — the play that landed Nyong’o her first Tony nomination.

There were early reports that David Oyelowo was to co-star with Nyong’o in the adaptation with Brad Pitt producing through his Plan B company.

‘Americanah’ follows the story of two young Nigerian immigrants, Ifemelu and Obinze, who face a lifetime of struggle while their love story endures.

Alvaro Morata’s remarkable revival continued on Tuesday as he scored twice for Spain in a 2-0 victory over Malta.

Popular media personality and TV show host, Wendy Williams was rushed to the hospital after she was found drunk.

According to multiple reports, William’s relapse was triggered by the news of the birth of her husband, Kevin Hunter’s love child with his younger mistress.

We earlier reported that the 54-year-old admitted during her show, The Wendy Williams Show, that she was living in a sober home. It was however learnt that she checked herself out of her sober living home in Long Island City, Queens on Monday afternoon and started drinking – before she was eventually found by her team who took her to the hospital to sober up.

According to Daily Mail, a studio source said,

“She was in a bad way and disappeared from the studio after her show Monday. She went back to the sober house only to check herself out and decided to start drinking. It’s not clear where she went but she headed in the direction of her home in Jersey and managed to find alcohol along the way.

“Word got back to the studio and there was panic and concern, everyone was looking for her, no one knew whether there would be a show today. She was eventually found and was drunk, she was immediately taken to the hospital.”

It would be recalled that earlier this month, Williams addressed her marriage troubles on her show and defended it, saying,

“Marriages are not easy. And don’t ask me about mine until you see [my wedding ring] gone – it ain’t going anywhere, not in this lifetime’

It’s understood Wendy was given a banana bag – a bag of IV fluids containing vitamins and minerals which helps clear a person’s system and sober them up.

Another source who spoke with Daily Mail said,

“Wendy is considering divorcing Kevin. She’s really distraught over the situation, she knew about Sharina but didn’t think a baby would arrive, she didn’t think Kevin would go this far, she’s lost and everyone is worried for her.”

Hunter’s massage therapist mistress Hudson is believed to have given birth to a little girl last week. She was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

Apple lifted the curtain on Monday on a television and movie streaming service that will allow users of its 1.4 billion gadgets worldwide to stream television shows and movies, both Apple originals and those from other creators, in a first step to challenge streaming video leaders Netflix and Amazon.

The launch was the centrepiece of an event at Apple’s Cupertino, California, headquarters that focused on the technology company’s services, not its hardware, as it deals with declining sales of its iPhone.

Hollywood celebrities trekked to Apple’s home to help debut a revamped Apple TV digital storefront, called Apple TV+. Apple has commissioned programming from Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg.

Apple’s jump into original entertainment signals a fundamental shift in its business as sales of hardware money-makers drop off. Without another category-defining new gadget announced to the public, Apple is looking to rely more on selling subscriptions and services like video, music and hardware insurance.

Throughout their presentation, Apple executives stressed privacy protections for consumers as they shop and consume content across a range of Apple phones, iPads or other hardware. They also emphasized content that would appeal to young audiences, potentially setting the stage for a rivalry with Walt Disney Co.

With its new media push, Apple joins a crowded field where rivals such as Amazon.com’s Prime Video and Netflix Inc have spent heavily to capture viewer attention and dollars with award-winning series and films.

The big tech war for viewers ignited a consolidation wave among traditional media companies preparing to join the fray. Walt Disney Co, which bought 21st Century Fox, and AT&T Inc, which purchased Time Warner Inc, plan to launch or test new streaming video services this year.

Revenue from its “services” segment – which includes the App Store, iCloud and content businesses such as Apple Music – grew 24 percent to $37.1 billion in fiscal 2018. The segment accounted for only about 14 percent of Apple’s overall $265.6 billion in revenue, but investors have pinned their hopes for growth on the segment.

The company also introduced Apple Arcade, a game subscription service that will work on phones, tablets and desktop computers and include games from a range of developers.

Apple shares were down about 1 percent after about an hour of presentations at the event, which was broadcast online.

Apple Inc said on Monday it will launch a credit card with Goldman Sachs Group Inc this summer that will be synched with iPhone users’ Apple Wallet and can be used to buy Apple products at a discount.

Speaking at an event at the iPhone maker’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, Vice President for Apple Pay Jennifer Bailey said the new Apple Card service will work through the company’s wallet app Apple Pay.

Users of the card, which will be issued by Goldman Sachs Group Inc, will earn 2 percent cash back on all purchases made through the digital wallet or 3 percent cash back on Apple products.

There will also be a physical card, which will give users 1 percent cash back on purchases.

The credit service will come with new features in the Apple Wallet aimed at helping consumers track their spending with a breakdown of monthly purchasing trends.

Cashback rewards will be credited to Apple Pay users’ accounts on a daily basis, Bailey said, and the card will not charge any international fees.

Credit card industry analysts said the rewards programs were not significantly different from what is currently available in the market, but that Apple’s broad consumer reach could make it a major player.

“Frankly I am bit underwhelmed,” said Ted Rossman, an analyst at Creditcards.com.

He noted that the rewards for Apple’s card were less attractive than benefits Citigroup Inc offers with its Double Cash Card.

Speaking at the event, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said Apple Pay was on track to process 10 billion transactions this year and is accepted by 70 percent of merchants in the United States.

The Apple Card is the first credit card to be offered by Goldman Sachs, which is best known as a Wall Street investment bank.

Goldman has been seeking to expand its consumer-focused products and offers personal loans and savings accounts through its online bank Marcus. Marcus has grown quickly since its 2016 launch, and now has $36 billion in deposits in the United States and U.K. and $5 billion in consumer loans.

Justin Bieber is taking a career hiatus so he can work through some “deep-rooted issues” and become a better husband and future father.

The “Sorry” hitmaker is said to have been seeking treatment for mental health struggles in recent weeks, and in a candid post on Instagram on Monday, the 25 year oldtells fans he will be taking some time away from the spotlight to put his own needs, and those of his loved ones, first.

“So I read a lot of messages saying you want an album,” he begins. “I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that, you pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour (sic).”

Justin goes on to reference the personal struggles he has been facing, revealing he wants to address the issues now so he will be ready to start a family with his new wife, Hailey Baldwin when the time comes.

“I have been looking, seeking, trial and error as most of us do, I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep-rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be,” he explains.

However, the pop superstar insists he won’t be gone from the charts for long.
“Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health,” he shares.

“I will come with a kick a** album ASAP (as soon as possible), my swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable his love is supernatural his grace is that reliable…. the top is where I reside period whether I make music or not the king said so. but I will come with a vengeance believe that (sic).”

Bieber’s lengthy post emerges weeks after admitting he was “struggling a lot” with his mental health in an early March post, although he reassured fans he will “bounce back”.

The singer’s emotional issues reportedly prompted Justin and model Hailey to postpone plans to celebrate their September courthouse wedding with a bigger party for family and friends, so he can prioritize his wellbeing.

Bieber hasn’t released an album since 2015’s Purpose, but he has made a number of guest appearances in recent years, on hit singles like Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despacito smash, 2U with David Guetta, and I’m the One and No Brainer with DJ Khaled, Chance the Rapper, and Quavo.

Recently, Tanitoluwa Adewumi, the Nigerian chess wonder kid was given a home, alongside his parents and brother. A week ago, the boy was homeless, studying chess moves while lying on the floor of a shelter in Manhattan. Now Tani, as he is known, has a home, a six-figure bank account, scholarship offers from three elite private schools and an invitation to meet President Bill Clinton.

“I think I am still dreaming,” said Tani’s dad, Kayode Adewumi. “I hope I don’t wake up.”

Tani is a Nigerian refugee who had learned chess only a bit more than a year earlier, he had just defeated kids from elite private schools to win the New York state chess championship for his age group. He lugged a trophy nearly as big as he is back to the homeless shelter.

A Newyork based journalist through his column instigated a GoFundMe drive that raised more than $200,000 for Tani, his parents and his brother. A half-dozen readers offered housing — in a couple of cases, palatial quarters. Immigration lawyers offered pro bono assistance to the Adewumis, who are in the country legally and seeking asylum. Three film companies are vying to make movies about Tani.

The family settled on one of the more modest and practical housing offers: An anonymous donor paid a year’s rent on a two-bedroom apartment near Tani’s current school. The apartment is clean, comfortable and freshly painted, without being luxurious.

According to the reporter, Adewumis have decided that they will not spend a cent of the $200,000 GoFundMe money on themselves. They will take out a 10 percent tithe and donate it to their church, which helped them while they were homeless, and the rest will be channelled through a new Tanitoluwa Adewumi Foundation to help African immigrants who are struggling in the United States the way they were a week ago.

When the journalist asked the Adewumi Snr, how they could turn down every penny of such a huge sum. Didn’t they want a celebration dinner? New iPhones? A vacation?

“I’m a hardworking guy,” Mr Adewumi explained. He has two jobs: He drives for Uber with a rented car and sells real estate through Brick & Mortar. Someone has now offered him a free car so that he can keep more of the money he makes driving, and Tani’s mom was just offered a job as a health care aide at a hospital.

Metabolism is something that exists in every cell in your body and refers to the numerous chemical processes that burn calories to create energy. Your digestion, ability to breathe and how your body repairs itself all hinge on your metabolism.

If you do want to start thinking about how to work with your metabolism over your day, then here’s some expert advice.

First thing in the morning

Eat a decent breakfast, every single day. If you don’t, your metabolism goes into starvation mode and slows to a crawl. In fact, research published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found testers who ate no less than 22% and up to 55% of their total daily calories at breakfast gained only 1.7lb on average over four years. But those who ate less than 11% of their calories first thing gained nearly 3lb.

Go for healthy breakfasts that are slow to digest. Try a mix of lean protein with complex carbohydrates and healthy fats. Berardi recommends an omelette made with one egg and two egg whites, plus a handful of sliced mixed peppers and onions.

At the office

According to a study in the US journal Physiology & Behaviour, the metabolic rate of people who regularly drank caffeinated coffee was an average of 16% higher than those who drank decaf.

“Caffeine stimulates your central nervous system by increasing your heart rate and breathing,” says Robert Kenefick, a research physiologist at the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine.

Follow your morning cup of coffee with an ice-cold glass of water. Researchers at the University of Utah found just drinking one glass can raise your body’s metabolic rate by up to 30 per cent and keep it raised for around 10 minutes.

The theory is that your body has to burn extra calories to maintain its core temperature. Get your recommended eight glasses a day with the help of the free Waterlogged app, which gives you regular H2O reminders.

At the gym

When it comes to how to speed up your metabolism, try swapping hours on the treadmill for HIIT training. This school of exercising is all about fast and furious intervals – 20 seconds of gut-wrenching effort followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated a total of eight times over four minutes.

Studies have shown that working out this way is as effective at boosting your metabolism as much longer lower-intensity sweat sessions.

Do as many reps as you can of the first exercise in 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, then repeat eight times. Rest for two minutes, then do it again for the other two exercises.

Lunge with a bicep curl: holding dumbbells at your sides, step back into a lunge, curling the weights up to your shoulders. Repeat on another leg. That’s one.

Squat overhead press: hold your dumbbells at shoulder height, arms bent, and lower into a squat. Now raise the weights to the ceiling as you push back up.

Push-ups: you know this one. Assume a push-up position, bend arms and lower.

At meal times

To slim down, pile your plate with protein. Regular large helpings will help you build and maintain lean muscle. Aim for 30g of protein – that’s 250g of low-fat cottage cheese or 100g of chicken breast – at each meal.

Information coming in indicates that the Walt Disney Co. has closed its $71.3 billion acquisition of large parts of 21st Century Fox, expanding its global reach and content portfolio ahead of the planned launch of its own video streaming service.

With the mega-deal, Disney, led by chairman and CEO Bob Iger, is adding the Fox film and TV studio, the FX networks, National Geographic, Indian TV giant Star India and Fox’s 30 percent stake in streaming service Hulu to its portfolio. The additional Hulu portion takes Disney’s stake in the streamer to 60 percent (with Comcast owning 30 percent, and AT&T’s Warner Media 10 percent).

Using fiscal-year 2017 data, Disney said in a regulatory filing that the new assets could quickly add about $19.3 billion in annual revenue and $1.6 billion in net income. In that fiscal year, Disney reported $55.1 billion in revenue and $9.4 billion in net income.

Disney has promised $2 billion in cost savings from the Fox takeover, with some in the industry expecting between 4,000-10,000 layoffs.

Former U.S President, Bill Clinton has congratulated the eight-year-old Nigerian chess champion, Tanitoluwa Adewunmi and also invited him and his parents to his office for a personal introduction.

The young Nigerian recently won the New York State Chess championship for his age bracket.
The New York Times reported that Adewunmi had won seven chess trophies including the state tournament, where he outwitted other children.

The story went viral and got the attention of Clinton.

According to the New York Times, the young chess champion’s family are taking asylum in a homeless shelter in Manhattan after they fled the Boko Haram insurgency since 2018.

Adewunmi, went undefeated at the state tournament, outwitting children from elite private schools with private chess tutors.
Tanitoluwa rating is now 1587 and rising fast and he is being compared with the world’s best player, Magnus Carlsen, who stands at 2845.

In a tweet on his Twitter handle-@BillClinton, the former number one citizen said: “Refugees enrich our nation and talent is universal, even if opportunity is not.”

The former U.S president now joins the queue of people celebrating the boy and his feats.

Clinton said “this story made me smile, Tanitoluwa “ you exemplify a winning spirit – in chess and in life.”

“And kudos to your hardworking parents. You all should stop by my office in Harlem; I’d love to meet you.”

Tanitoluwa placed first in the New York State Scholastic Championships tournament for kindergarten through third grade, a remarkable win for anyone.

The three largest tattoos on her back were added in 2016– ancient Buddhist mantras down her right shoulder blade, a temple in the centre of her back, and, below it, a grid design known as a Yantra, believed to bring good luck.

She got the tattoo in Bangkok, which was was made in traditional Thai style with a manual needle, and was blessed by the tattoo artist, who chanted an ancient hymn while making it.
A tattoo on her left shoulder blade is a script dedicated to her son Maddox, whom she adopted in Cambodia, and was done in 2003 in a Thai hotel.

Just months before actor-turned director Angelina split from her husband of 12 years, Brad Pitt in 2016 the couple had a former Thai monk flown to Cambodia where she was filming.

He drew designs on both stars using the same ink to symbolically and ‘bind’ them as husband and wife.
Angelina also has gothic lettering on her neck reading Know Your Rights, the title of a song by The Clash, one of her favourite bands.

Emilia Clarke, who plays the fair-haired Daenerys Targaryen, agrees that the show isn’t just about nudity, despite stripping off herself.

Speaking to Associated Press, the actor said: “Kit’s ass, someone else’s ass, my ass, it doesn’t matter! It’s not what the show is about, it’s not what any bit of acting is about.

“As for my character, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been naked.

“I can talk about the importance of women in this show until the cows come home.

“It has gone away to changing the landscape of the industry as we see it, which is really vital and really important.”
Surprisingly, people have actually done the numbers on how many nude scenes there have been in the show since it debuted in 2011.

According to GQ, before the seventh season had premiered there were 71 scenes that included nudity or sex.

That’s certainly not a small amount.

But as the show comes to an end after the upcoming eighth instalment, Emilia has ensured that Daenerys isn’t too far from her. And no, she wasn’t able to steal anything, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

She told AP: “I tried to throw some things under the wig, hide them in my bag, nothing.
“Apparently the throne itself you can’t… I was there pushing it, trying to get it in the car. It didn’t fit, so what are you gonna do?”

Instead, she got a tattoo of her three dragons in the series, who are called Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion.

She then joked that she only briefly passed out in the chair when getting the ink done at Dr Woo’s famous tattoo studio in Los Angeles.

The controversial religious leader also condemned the practice of vote-buying, appealing to Nigerians to shun any politician who offers them money in exchange for their votes.

On the same note, he counselled the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, against going to court to challenge the outcome of the February 23 elections.
According to him, Atiku should spend on orphanages instead of giving money to lawyers to contest the results of the February 23 presidential election.

“The money Atiku has, he should take it to motherless babies’ homes and rehabilitation centres instead of giving it to lawyers.

News Reports suggest the death of a popular and Veteran Nollywood actor, Tony Anyasador Uzordinma.

The popular Nollywood star was said to have died yesterday at Federal Medical Center in Imo State, after a long battle with diabetes.

Anyasodor is famous for his role in movies, Heavy Storm 1& 2, and Beyond the Verdict 2, and had worked with the likes of Queen Nwokoye, and many others.

He lived in Owerri in Imo State capital until his death.

His death comes several months after Yoruba actress Funmilayo Ogunsola popularly known as Ijewuru, died in Ibadan, Oyo state.

It would be recalled that the actress reportedly died on February 4 2018, after she had a heart attack at her residence in Ibadan.

Ijewuru was one of the wives of late veteran actor, Olusola Ishola Ogunsola, popularly known as Isho Pepper.

Idris Elba is adding another superhero franchise to his resumé according to reports. He is jumping from “the Marvel universe to DC,” to replace Will Smith in Suicide Squad, according to Variety.
Smith dropped the role for the sequel because of scheduling conflicts.

Elba will now play the character of a “grumpy sniper par excellence and leader of a group of unruly super-villains who begrudgingly save the world.”

Another Marvel alum, James Gunn, reportedly will write and direct the movie. Production will begin in September and Warner Bros. is looking to set the release date for August 6, 2021.

Although the cast isn’t complete, Margot Robbie, who plays the role of Harley Quinn, is more than likely be in the movie. Quinn was so popular in the original film that the character has a prequel, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), that will hit theatres on February 7, 2020.

Although Smith isn’t a part of Suicide Squad anymore, he has plenty of projects lined up. Some include him playing in a biopic as Richard Williams, the father of tennis icons Venus and Serena Williams. This news is causing some controversy relating to colourism issues. The site reports that it is uncertain about future plans for the movie.
Elba is also keeping busy.

He is starring in two movies Three Thousand Years of Longing and Hobbs & Shaw all over the world. He will also play Macavity, the Mystery Cat, in the classic Cats. His comedy, Turn Up Charlie debuts on Netflix next week as well.

R Kelly has given his first interview since being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and insisted the allegations made against him are ‘not true’.

Kelly was freed from jail after posting $100k of his $1million bail and is set to appear in court, after being charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse on four victims – three of which were underage at the time.
He pleaded not guilty and has now insisted on his innocence in his first TV interview since being charged. Kelly appeared on CBS’ This Morning where he broke down in tears over the allegations and stressed that they are not true.

Metro Uk reports, he claimed that he would be ‘stupid’ to have engaged in such allegations, given his past sexual abuse cases that he was not convicted for. CBS teased the interview with Kelly on Twitter, with the Ignition hit-maker saying in the clip: ‘People are going back to my past… they are trying to add all of this stuff now to that, to make all of this stuff going on feel real to people.’
He denied that his past was relevant to new claims made against him because he ‘beat his case’ when previously trialled for different sexual abuse allegations. ‘Whether they’re old rumours, new rumours, future rumours, they’re not true,’ he said.

Kelly broke down in tears when asked by interviewer Gayle King if he had ‘ever held anybody against his will’. He told King such accusations were ‘stupid’ before emotionally declaring he is ‘fighting for his life’. Kelly broke down in tears and insisted he was innocent.

Kelly is due to appear in court on the charges on 8 March, where if convicted, he could receive a sentence of up to 70 years in jail.

Michael Jackson’s music has been banned from BBC Radio 2 after a documentary exposing his alleged sex crimes is about to air.According to The Sunday Times the decision was made last week ahead of Channel 4 screening ‘Leaving Neverland’, a four hour, two part documentary featuring alleged victims James Safechuck and Wade Robson.

A BBC spokesman told the publication: “We consider each piece of music on its merits and decisions on what we play on different networks are always made with relevant audiences and context in mind.”

Safechuck, 40, appeared on the BBC’s Victoria Derbyshire Show alongside fellow Jackson accuser Wade and Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed.

Both Safechuck and Robson, 36, tell their stories in the controversial film about the King Of Pop, and they relived their torment on today’s show.

“Michael made sure from day one that he had a really special relationship with me, and that he had a really special separate relationship with my mother and with my sister and then my father.

A lot of controversies still surround the impending release of the documentary, as many still doubt the validity of some of the claims.

The Chinese government lashed out at the U.S. campaign against telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies on Monday even as it hailed progress in negotiations over trade and North Korean denuclearization.
Taking questions from reporters ahead of Tuesday’s opening of the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress in Beijing, Zhang Yesui, a former ambassador to Washington, said the U.S. was applying a “typical double standard” to Huawei that was “neither fair nor ethical.”

U.S. efforts to persuade other governments to block Huawei out of their telecom networks violate the rules of the World Trade Organization, he said.

Zhang’s comments followed Canada’s decision on Friday to proceed with the extradition of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou to the U.S. to face charges of alleged bank fraud. Meng responded over the weekend with a legal challenge to the way she had been questioned and searched in Canada.

Huawei is not expected to figure in the formal agenda of the National People’s Congress. But the legislature’s convocation comes as American and Chinese officials work to finalize an agreement on trade ahead of an expected meeting between presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping later this month.
“In the past few months, both sides have engaged in intensive and productive consultations and so far have achieved substantive progress of many issues of mutual interest,” Zhang said Monday. “This has been well received in both countries and in the international community.”

Zhang separately noted that the legislature will be voting on a revised foreign investment law that contains enhanced protections for the intellectual property of foreign companies and a prohibition on forced transfers of technology, both key U.S. concerns. The changes, Zhang said, will help create a “more open and predictable environment” for foreign business.
“The fact is the interests of the U.S. and China are so intertwined that a confrontational relationship will serve neither side’s interest,” he said. “If history teaches us anything, it is that both sides stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation.”

“A proper increase in the defence budget is needed to safeguard national security and transform China’s military,” he said. Adding that China’s military budget, as a proportion of GDP, is lower than that of the U.S. among other countries, he said, “It is not a threat to other countries.”

China’s official defence budget for 2019 is expected to be revealed on Tuesday during the legislature’s opening session as officials outline overall spending plans for the year. Even so, many analysts say that the official budget significantly understates China’s total military spending.
Asked about Trump’s unsuccessful talks in Hanoi last week with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Zhang remained upbeat.



“The Korean Peninsula issue is highly complicated and sensitive, so there is no easy fix,” he said. “We cannot expect the issue to be resolved with one or two meetings.”

Hackers linked to North Korea continued waging cyber attacks against U.S. companies and other targets while leaders from Washington and Pyongyang met for their second summit last week, the New York Times reports.


Throughout the ongoing, 18-month operation, hackers from Lazarus group have persistently targeted key industries, including energy and telecommunications, as well as government and defence sectors, according to a report, California-based cybersecurity firm McAfee published Sunday.

Researchers at McAfee say they discovered the campaign, dubbed “Operation Sharpshooter,” in December 2018, but have evidence that it may have started as early as September 2017.

Working with an undisclosed law enforcement agency, McAfee says its researchers got access to one of the main computer servers used by the hackers. The researcher then watched attacks unfold in real-time.

The operation’s attacks have focused mainly on banks, utilities and oil and gas companies, hitting over 100 targets in the U.S. and other Western countries, according to the Times. Most U.S. targets were in Houston and New York City, but other international cities like London, Madrid, Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong were also hit.

Cities in Russia and mainland China, which maintain good relations with North Korea, did not receive many attacks. McAfee declined to name which companies were hit.

The attacks were highly sophisticated and perpetrated to access computer networks and intellectual property at specific companies, according to the firm.
The new information from McAfee shows that although North Korea has not tested a missile in more than 15 months, it may have continued to wage its cyber war with the West unabated.

North Korea’s hackers gained international attention after the Sony attack in 2014. Many believe the attack came in retaliation for the spoof movie The Interview. Regular cyber attacks began shortly after Trump called Kim “little rocket man” in the speech to the United Nations in 2017, according to the Times.
North Korea is also believed to be behind the 2017 WannaCry cyber attack, which affected more than 150 organizations globally.

“North Korea appears to be engaging in increasingly hostile cyber activities, including theft, website vandalism, and denial of service attacks,” says a March 2018 report on information warfare compiled by the Congressional Research Service.
In September 2018, the U.S. Treasury sanctioned a North Korean programmer for his role in the Sony and WannaCry attacks.

Cybercrime is also reportedly one of North Korea’s main methods of attaining foreign currency.

Officials of the Benue State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Tersoo Joseph, aka Adikpo, and Demenenge Iorwa, for allegedly raping a married woman.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Omololu Bishi, said: “On February 9, 2019, around 6 pm, some armed robbers operating on a motorcycle behind the Bem Hotels, Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi, abducted a woman and took her to the Quararafa Quarters, Wadata, where they raped and robbed her of a phone and N2,000.

“During an investigation, Tersoo Joseph, aka Adikpo, and Demenenge Iorwa, of Logo 1, Makurdi, were arrested in connection with the case. The suspects have confessed to the crime.”

Joseph told newsmen that they raped the victim in a gutter in the area.

According to Bishi, the command also arrested Justice Agada, 25; Emmanuel Patrick, 21; Emmanuel Atoju, 19; and Stanley Ugochukwu, 20, of different addresses, for involvement in cultism and armed robbery.

The police boss stated that their investigations have shown that the suspects were members of various cult groups and were responsible for robbing members of the public of their valuables.

Other persons arrested by the command include Johnson Ekoja, Emmanuel Ogiri and Anthony Ojela in connection with a robbery incident at No. 24 Jokpama Street, Otukpo, on February 18, 2019.

Empire actor, Jussie Smollett, has been arrested in Chicago after filing a false police report.
Chicago police spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, alleged on Twitter that the 36-year-old hired two Nigerian brothers to stage the attack.

“Like any other citizen, Mr Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked,” his attorneys said in a statement.

“Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defence.”
Smollet, who is gay, had claimed two men in downtown Chicago hurled homophobic and racial insults at him, and even went ahead to physically attack him.

Teni, whose chart-topping hit “Case’, literally became a national anthem in December 2018, has become Africa’s latest YouTube Artist On The Rise.

Her hit track ‘Case’ has earned the 25-year-old the recognition from video streaming platforms, including YouTube, who announced her as its latest trending act for the year.

Artist On The Rise was created by the streaming platform in 2018 to promote new artists in their trending tabs.

Last year, Burna Boy’s “Ye” track released off his ‘Outside” album became a big song on the platform and was also featured on the big screens at Times Square, New York.

Barely few weeks after Lady Gaga and her fiancé Christian Carino were spotted at the 2019 SAG Awards, things have taken a drastic dimension for the pair.

Gaga and Carino, who happily told anyone who cared to listen that they were destined for the altar in October last year, have reportedly called off the engagement.

Reports in the US suggested that Gaga’s relationship with Carino might be heading for the rocks after the 32-year-old star showed up at the Grammys in Los Angeles without a ring on her finger.

The speculations were also fuelled by the failure of Gaga to recognise her lover while accepting her prize for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Shallow.”

German celebrity designer and photographer, Karl Lagerfeld, is dead.

Karl, 85, was admitted to the American Hospital located on the outskirts of Paris on Monday night before he was confirmed dead early this morning.

According to sources, the iconic designer had been sick for several weeks prior to his death on Monday.

Karl started in his remarkable career in 1955 when he was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain, and has designed for world’s most powerful women.

Wife of a former footballer, Victoria Beckham, said: “So incredibly sad to hear this. Karl was a genius and always so kind and generous to me both personally and professionally. RIP.”

His illustrious career has also seen him work with several leading brands, including Chloe, Patou and Tiziani.
