BusinessIn The Tech Space, Why Don't We Build Global Brands From Nigeria by Realteeyee123(op): 4:33pm On Jun 27, 2025
So, first off, would say from being a big admirer and player in the technology space from Nigeria, we've made tremendous progress in the kind of companies we have produced, from the early days of Interswitch, to early 2010's with companies like Konga, to Dealday, to Jumia, to the fintech boom in 2015's with the likes of Paystack, Flutterwave, and Teamapt, (Now Moniepoint) to recent startups doing amazing things in the crypto and AI space,

But, one thing that always, baffle me is why our scaling and growth is always limited to Africa and maybe just maybe a little town in UK or US, why don't our companies dominate in the global tech ecosystem, like the likes of maybe South African companies, or US, Canadian and UK companies even when we raise similar amount in VC founding as these companies, some don't even raise as much as we do, but still we dont dominate foreign markets like these companies.

Just curious if any one can share insights or think similar to what im thinking

Good morning my fellow Nairalanders,

I saw this car in auction and below picture are the little damage, please how much would this likely to cost me to fix, or is it something panel beater can just work on? Àbí I will need to change the 4 doors.

And what's the price of 2013 door,

I will be reading comments
Lets run a simple maths, fill in the blanks

Price of the Car in USD.…

Shipping fee + possible agency fee….

Clearing cost... 2m - 2.5m

Repair cost... 700 -1m

Then whats the average price of cars in Nigeria of similar year. But keep in mind lots of used foreign cars in Nigeria are accented and have rolled back mileage. In your case you know what you fixing and the exact mileage of the car.

Factor these and it would be very easy to make a decision to either import or just get it in Nigeria

2cribz:
Stupid decision. Buying n shipping almost 6m,clearing another 2m..repairs...another 1m.
Alaye buy car at berger.
business isn't straight line graph. Last I checked, Berger guys don't make cars, where do they get their cars from, literally from auction sites like this. If the price is low its a great deal. It would always be cheaper to import yourself if you know what you doing that buying from Berger.

Key thing is to know what you are doing and do your research

Car TalkRe: Can I Buy A Brand New 2013 Car In 2025 by Realteeyee123(m): 1:21pm On May 13, 2025
Sadly you can't, would be mostly likely used you would get.

But you might be lucky to get a low mileage car, if you buying it in Nigeria would say forget about the mileage to some extent and focus on the car condition, 99.99% of tokunbo cars have rolled back mileage in Nigeria.
Car TalkRe: Review Of Mazda CX-5 2017 - 2021 (hidden Gem ) Ask Me Anything by Realteeyee123(op): 6:56am On May 13, 2025
Absolutely correct, would be great if you just ship it yourself. Try getting the 2017 CX-5 model upwards with the Skyactive technology 2.5L engine, Mazda turbo is very very reliable but cause you in Nigeria and we know how our mechanics are, would say avoid the Turbo not because they aren't reliable but cause of your location and the technical expertise present.

But if you have a very very good and reliable mechanic by all means go for the Turbo variant but change your oil every 4,000 - 5,000 miles. Regular oil change is key to getting 300,000 miles and more from those cars.

Oh that's lovely. Skyactiv technology is amazing and an engineering feat.

Yh I've observed its scarce to find too, and if you find its so expensive too. Those who know literally don't hesitate to grab it.

I have been carefully looking out for it on Nigeria car sale platforms but is scarce.

In the meantime, let me enjoy my 012 m3. I have upgraded the engine to 016 skyactiv 2.0l engine.

I am still in love with my m3.

Great review.

All cx-5 have the skyactiv technology ( production started in 2012 to replace cx-7 and tribute)

I love everything about the cx-5! I am considering it for my next ride.

Skyactiv engines and transmissions are really reliable!
You so correct, its an amazing vehicle, good thing about the transmission is its not CVT.

That would be a great purchase, though I observed its not on Jiji especially from the 2017 model upwards its pretty hard to find. Nigerians are really sleeping on the car.

So how long have you used it ?
Has it been purely maintenance or at a point you had other issues with it ?
Do you think it’s a viable choice in Nigeria, giving the fact it’s a recent model Mazda, would part procurement be easy also.
Got this recently, but previously driven one and have lots of friends who do, and its a very very reliable ride, with a low cost of maintenance.

Its a very viable choice in Nigeria, its a Japanese car and any mechanic can easily work on it. Parts are also readily available at Ladipo too and other neighbouring markets.

With respect to issues, no issues at all just regular maintenance that's all is required, again it was a properly built car thanks to its Industry leading and revolutionary Skyactiv technology.

Watch Engineering Explained on Youtube to see the breakdown of how the Skyactiv technology was developed and the Comparison with other similar engines. Its truly an Engineering masterpiece. Very very well built engine and transmission.

Hi guys,

Would be doing a review of a Mazda Cx-5 and Mazda cars in general. Mazda cars have come a long way from their humble beginnings to their partnership with Ford , so glad they left ford , they were using Ford engines which had lots of issues especially with the water pump location and being prone to failure leading to a possible engine replacement due to its location.

In 2017, Toyota bought a 5% stake in Mazda and it’s been growing tremendously. The Mazda Cx-5 is still made in Japan and doesn’t use a CVT transmission, it’s very very reliable and up there with Toyota and Lexus and way more reliable than present day Honda that uses a 1.5l turbo paired with a CVT transmission.

If you looking at getting a Mazda try getting from 2016 upwards and avoid the years with a Ford Engine please.

The pictures attached is a Mazda CX-5 2017 very rugged and reliable car . 2.5L naturally aspirated engine and a regular 5 speed automatic transmission .

AutosMazda Cx-5 (Mazda Dealership Vs Body Shop) Advice Canada by Realteeyee123(op): 2:22am On May 08, 2025
Hi guys,

About getting this Mazda Cx-5 and got couple of line scratches at the back, it’s a soul red color, and was quoted $835 + tax by a repair shop, should I proceed to fix it and would it blend?

Other option is the Mazda dealership I’m getting the car from said they can buff it a bit and make it better than it is now but can’t spray the whole panel or use touch up paint cause it might make it worse.

Should I just use what the Mazda dealership offers and call it a day or take the risk and pay the $835

Just getting the car , Otherwise everything about the car is perfect and spotless .

Thank you 🙏

I think my key takeaway is if you put your mind to something you can do it, even if it’s a new field and all

There is no harm in trying..but next time if you a taping a car for painting, you need to follow the line of the area you want to paint..i.e if you are painting the bumper (front), your cellotape don't need to cover any area of the bumper, you will start your taping from the fender to the full light, to the chrome and end at the other fender..there is always a line between the fenders and the bumper..and for the light down the bumper, you only tape the light and you won't allow the cellotape to attached to the bumper you are spraying because after your painting, the paint will not get down to where you tape and it will bring inperfect job..and moreover you need to cover thos error on the car with body filler before the primer..
Thanks so much, would do so when I’m re-doing it again

I’m I on the right track ?
Car TalkRe: DIY , Painting Parts Of My Bumper And Scratches Myself by Realteeyee123(op): 2:24pm On Aug 09, 2024
I think I’m beginning to understand the process better, please guys correct me if I’m wrong

So first off , properly sand the basecoat a bit using 400-grit and smoothen it using 800-1,500 grit sandpaper

Then, re-tape the nonsense I did initially and do it properly

Then, ensure the prime is fully covered by the Basecoat which is an off white color

Then apply the mid-coat until you get the desired color, (I think I understand the use of mid-coat now, so essentially the mid-coat is the pearl and it sort of darkens the off white basecoat) so the more mid-coat you apply the darker the area.

So in essence the mid-coat might be the most technical and difficult stage

Then lastly , apply the clear coat to the area

Please guys scrutinize my steps and process .

Was charged $2,000 to do this but so far have spent $397 on materials, and gotten 3 extra cans of both base coat, mid coat and clear coat

Also , I’m not spraying half of the car only the affected little areas . Not going beyond these areas , the car’s original paint is still perfectly intact.
