Two men have been arrested by the police for allegedly contracting a famous pastor to pray over a trunk full of ritual money but they ended up swindling him of God GH¢15,000.

They are Theophilus Siaw, a 19-year-old unemployed, Francis Tetteh Tsu; Freedom, 21, a mechanic apprentice and Isaac Amay aka Rasta, currently at large.

The pastor, who is the head pastor of a famous church at Ashaiman Lebanon and often preached on Rite Fm, Somanya, was said to have been contracted to pray over the money after which they would all share it.

A source at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters told DAILY GUIDE that the pastor, in the month of June 2016, was preaching on Rite Fm when he received a phone call from Theophilus that he had a problem and wanted to discuss it with him.

The two agreed and met at a Hotel at Somanya when Theophilus narrated to the pastor that he visited a spiritualist for the ritual money.

Theophilus said the money, which was in dollars, was in a trunk in his house but any time he touched the trunk, he had ‘electrical shock.’

The pastor agreed to see the said trunk containing the money so that he could pray over it and also to sanctify it.

Theophilus took the man of God to where the said trunk was and when the pastor attempted to pray over it, Isaac Amay, a friend of Theophilus, stopped him and further told him that the spiritualist ordered them not to allow anybody to pray over the money and that if they defied the order, Theophilus would die.

Isaac told the pastor that the spiritualist, who is in the Republic of Benin, had ordered that a life cow be buried at a cemetery as a sacrifice before any person could touch the money in the trunk.

The suspects then suggested to the pastor that he provide the financial assistance for the ritual so that when it was done, they could all share the money equally when the trunk was finally opened.

The pastor agreed and provided an amount of GH¢3,000 for the purchase of the cow.

He again raised an account of GH¢2,000 to the suspects and further led then to Benin to see the said spiritualist for the rest of the rituals to be performed.

On their return to Ghana, the suspects again collected various sums of money amounting to GH¢10,000 from the victim as well.

The police source said while the pastor was waiting for the suspects to give him the go-ahead for the trunk to be opened, he received a call from them demanding an amount of $3,000 for final rituals to be performed; and it was at this point that the pastor realized that the suspects were fraudsters and reported the matter to the police.

But for most Nigerians, the mourning days appear to have ended and they are now asking what becomes of the millions raised from the #SaveMayowa campaign.
A representative of the Ahmed family, Tope Adeniran, who spoke with The Nation, said the family was still mourning Mayowa’s loss. Tope, who sounded distraught, said: “I am not ready to talk to any journalist on any story. I just lost someone, can’t you guys sympathise with us?”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ms. Dolapo Badmus, who spoke with one of our correspondents, said that the police would brief the media on the matter at the appropriate time on what would be done with the remaining sum realised from the campaign.

Badmus said: “We are all human beings. When a life is lost, the first thing is to commiserate with the family. Right now, we are condoling with members of Mayowa’s family. I don’t think the issue of money should be the first thing for us to be talking about right now. So, we want to leave the family for some time to go through their private period of mourning. But at the appropriate time, we will feed the members of the press back on the decisions we have made. We will still act at the appropriate time.”

Some leaders of non-governmental organisations involved with women causes and health care also shared their thoughts with The Nation on what can be done with the fund.
The Executive Director, Centre for Children’s Health Education, Orientation and Protection (CEE-HOPE), Mrs. Betty Abah believes that Mayowa’s family, after they must have mourned her sufficiently, should make a public statement on what they intend to do with the fund.

Abah said: “As the saying goes, the deed has been done and we cannot question God. It is time to take the next step and that should be fully characterised by transparency in the light of the recent controversy. My thoughts would be that they can donate to a charity organisation having to do with cancer.

“I really can’t recall hearing much from the family following Mayowa’s death. I think they need to make a statement thanking the supporters, as well as stating the way forward, and that should include the use of the fund.”

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said that Nigeria recovered about N78 billion, and 3 million dollars from looters since the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The minister however stated that it’s not enough for what Nigeria needs to revive economy. They are a far cry from what the country needs he added.

The minister said this on Friday when he appeared on a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja. He said: “What we have recovered and if my record is right is about N78 billion, and 3 million dollars. “We have been able to block various accounts in which about 9 billion dollar is found but those are not money available to us because we are still in court over them.

“The government spends N165 billion every month to pay federal civil servants, even what has been so far recovered will not even pay 50 per cent of the salaries in a month.’’ Minister Mohammed gave assurance that every cent recovered will be sensibly spent and nobody could re-loot what had been returned under the incumbent government. He further clarified that Nigerians should understand that what had been recovered was so little in comparison with what the people needed on a regular basis.

“N400 billion seems a lot, but you must also understand that for three or four years contractors were not paid,” he added. “So, when we paid this money to contractors, they also use part of it to settle their own debt, they use part of it to recall laid off staff. “But the truth of the matter is that many of them have been paid, they are yet to mobilise to site and they cannot do so until the rains are over.”

The code P0441 means that the Evaporative control system purge flow is incorrect. First, let's quickly review what the Evaporative control system is. The Evaporative control system (EVAP) prevents gasoline vapors from the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere. The Evaporative control system catches and stores gasoline vapors in a small box installed near the fuel tank called charcoal canister. When you drive and certain conditions (speed, engine temperature, etc.) are met, fuel vapors are gradually purged from the charcoal canister and burned inside your engine. The code P0441 means that the purge flow is lower or higher than it should be in these conditions. The purge flow is controlled by the purge valve (purge solenoid).

Symptoms:
Other than the Check Engine light, there might be no driveability symptoms or the engine may surge or run a little rough at idle.

Common causes:
- bad purge valve
- clogged or disconnected purge line
- vacuum leak near the purge line /engine intake connection
- bad vapor pressure sensor
- damaged or cracked charcoal canister
- faulty leak detection pump (LDP)
- bad NVLD unit (Chrysler)
- sticking or faulty vent valve
- cracked or clogged EVAP VSV vacuum hoses (Toyota)
- bad EVAP VSV valve (Toyota)
- misrouted vacuum hoses
- open or short in the purge valve control wiring
- rusted filler neck (rust belt states)

How the code p0441 is diagnosed:
Without a scan-tool: The first part is to check visually for obvious problems: if the gas cap closed properly, there is no cracks or other damage on the charcoal canister and all vacuum hoses related to the EVAP system are properly connected. If no obvious problem is found, the purge valve needs to be tested next. The purge valve should be normally closed. It opens when voltage is applied to its terminals. The purge valve is typically tested with a hand-held vacuum pump. It should hold the vacuum when closed (no voltage) and open fully when voltage is applied; see the procedure below. Sometimes the purge valve may be sticking intermittently but work properly when tested. If there is any suspicion, the purge valve must be replaced; usually it's not very expensive.
If there are other codes, such as P0446 or P0442, they need to be checked out first, as the P0441 can be triggered by the same fault.
With a scan tool: The manufacturer-specific scan tools usually have capability to run the test of the whole EVAP system. With a generic scan tool, the purge valve must be activated and the EVAP system pressure monitored.

In many cars, including VW, Audi, Nissan and Mazda, a bad purge valve is probably the most common culprit for the code P0441. The purge valve (it could also be called purge solenoid) can be purchased from a dealer. Usually it's not very expensive and easy to replace.
Often when the charcoal canister starts failing, the charcoal pellets are drawn into the purge line and clog-up the purge valve or the purge lines. If a lot of charcoal pellets are found stuck inside the purge valve, the charcoal canister might also need to be replaced.
In many late 90-s, early 00's Toyota and Lexus vehicles, there is a EVAP VSV valve and vacuum hoses at the charcoal canister that need to be tested. Usually, it's the VSV that goes bad or one of the vacuum hoses gets clogged up with charcoal pellets from the canister. Unfortunately, Toyota sells the EVAP VSV valves as one unit with the canister, which is quite expensive, but we found the VSV valves available separately on Ebay and Amazon. Either way, all vacuum hoses connected to the EVAP VSV valves must be replaced and vacuum metal lines must be tested for blockage and cleaned.
The Toyota technical service bulletin (TSB) dated 2003, also mentions the inoperative Canister Closed Valve Vacuum Switching Valve (CCV VSV) as the possible reason for the codes P0441 and P0446. The CCV VSV must be tested and replaced with an updated part if inoperative.
In 2002-2007 Dodge and Chrysler vehicles, the NVLD unit is fairly common to fail and causes the code P0441.
